I remember my great Aunt teaching us to 'swing dance' to this song... which seemed to be a mashup of square dancing and 50's sock hop moves. But I've always loved the Oak Ridge Boys. Btw, she taught all of us grandkids various dancing styles.. and probably had more energy than any of us! I'd love to hear what y'all think of Clint Black, who you have probably heard at least one song.. "Good Run of Bad Luck" which is the theme song for the movie 'Maverick'... So " Like the Rain" or "A Better Man" are probably better choices.

There were several songs in the early 80s that had a throw back theme. "Bop" by Dan Seals, and "Lost in the 50s Tonight" by Ronnie Milsap immediately come to mind. And then you have The Stray Cats, who did everything as a 50s throw back (I wont stand in your way)

My best friend's mom would always call me by this name, because of this song, and because of my first name. When I was a kid in the early 2000's, my parents attended a big country music festival that they would have in the middle of nowhere, here in Oklahoma every year (they also would have a rock festival every year called Rocklahoma). There were lots of artists there performing, including Big & Rich and the Oak Ridge Boys. They were honoring Chris Ledoux that year, who had just passed. My mom took my cowboy hat and got it signed by the guy with the long beard. I forget his name.. I later wore that cowboy hat and a cowboy tux to my 8th grade graduation. Lol

They were an AMAZING gospel group for decades and my mom listened to them a lot when i was little in the 60s. I was in high school when they switched to country/pop. I was into rock and especially Southern rock by then so they weren't my thing. I need to look back and see if you did any Statler Brothers that i missed. If you haven't, you should.

Sometimes I'll be listening to older country music and I'm not quite sure who I'm hearing, and then that bass voice drops and, well, okay, I guess this is the Oak Ridge Boys after all! I like your description of it as an intentional throwback! I've been meaning to recommend a few songs by Reba McEntire that fit that description - "Take it Back", "Why Haven't I Heard From You", and "I Can't Even Get the Blues" - very different style from the other songs of hers that you've listened too!
