Oaktree Capital Management co-founder Howard Marks says efforts to support the US economy during the Global Financial Crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic have led to a growth in government leverage that could prove unsustainable.

Americans experienced the wealth transfer in 08’ and 20’, now they’re going to experience the leverage transfer - and there won’t be the Congress or the FED or bail them out.

I’m $1.25M in debt with no intention to repay. With this leverage I’ve bought prepping supplies. The economy crashes next week.

The government is bankrupt, having gone into such debt as to lower growth for many generations. Want to reduce wealth inequality, which is esential for a functioning economy? We need a severe recession, and should have had one in 2009.
@GaminHasardАй бұрын
Indeed. Just look at the growth of UK since 2009. Totally off trend.

I still don’t get how the Federal Government can keep borrowing infinity and run endless deficits. 35T in debt and in 3 years, the interest on the debt will be more than all discretionary spending. We’re at the tipping point for sure. The system will collapse on its own weight in the near future.

Money borrowed in its own currency is a tax.

You don’t really make yourself wealthier by creating more claims on future economic output. True wealth comes from increasing the capacity of the economy to produce the goods and services people need and value. At some point in the future when people attempt to use the claims they have accumulated on economic output to actually buy things they will discover the difference between these two ideas.

So the question is, what did the US get for all this additional debt? Did the infrastructure get upgraded, was the lives of ordinary folks improved?
@guoxuxing6407Ай бұрын
the latter is too obvious - yes; and probably both.

This all started under George W. Bush and was "fixed" by Obama through government bailouts of corporate Ametica. QE started with Trump during covid and continued with Biden. This wholr "our party would've saved us" BS needs to die. Printing money to fund the government that eventually ends up destroying the governance has been happening since before the Roman Empire. This exact thing is why Bitcoin exists.
