so I have always thought myself useless at anything practical, and while I am DEF not gonna try and build my own garden room, you've inspired me to just try some small projects here and there, and just watching you and team use your tools and how you think is more helpful than I think you could ever realise.

Absolutely brilliant videos for someone to get their head around if they are not professional but what to have a go themselves.

I miss your videos Liam, I love the technicality and all the explanations, you could do a great job at being a trainer. I hope you will manage to get through these challenging times. Bless you and take care of yourself 🤗 you’ve done a great job with this YT channel and all the information you provided to so many of us. Take care brother and Happy New Year 2024!

Good work. I can't believe anyone could ever possibly look at those joist hangers and say they're not adequate! I've never seen anyone pit a nail in every hole like you do, most people just tosh a nail in from each side and call it done so you've gone way above and beyond on quality, as usual

I am a chippie (carpenter and joiner) over about 32 years experience. This lad is doing these rooms right for the restrictions/climate. Armchair warriors just shine their arses and make bold statements. I've never met one on-site, in horizontal sleet at 7:30am on a black February morning.

Nothing wrong with joist hangers,I use storm ties ,go into joists then about 12 inch piece runs down the stud,twist nails,Highlands of Scotland, belt and braces mate,your work is brilliant

If I was working alone I'd mark the other wall plate out for center's, lay all my timbers down flat same as you.between my center marks then tack a hand nail ( 3" wire ) on each center line . Then same as you work my way down one wall plate nailing up to a spacer while making sure the other end of the joist / rafter is sat up against the temporary nail. By the time you get in the other plate each joist is jn the exact correct spot for quickly shooting up . I used this method often back in me roofing days with trusses if me mate hasn't turned in

That's a good little trick to use the rafters to sit on rather than balancing everything in a ladder and teetering on the top step 👍

You are a proper legend fella. Well done on making a KZbin career out of this. Too many folk scared to share knowledge not just because it may affect their livelihood (copycats etc) but because they are afraid of getting it wrong. Great personality too. I hope BBC know you exist! Could get you on the next DIY SOS! lol.

Beautiful explained and demonstrated. 👍 Ignor the keyboard warrior wannabe carpenters, what do they know eh! Your joist hanger use/trick actually offers a better solution than them piddly clips anyway so anyone in their right mind would simply agree and follow suit. Anyway another great video Liam, thanks for sharing 👍

Could you also use the 'upside down' joist hangers on the back of the roof on the outside and nail into the OSB?

Great stuff, the only question I have is that I understand why you space the rafters at 400 apart so you won't get any waste from your insulation, but by doing that rather than the rafters at 400 centres, when you come to board them the boards don't work out right with the rafters and you end up with floating joints between the rafters. A few guys did this on site when putting some floor joists on and the nhbc failed it, had to be lifted and relayed. Just wondered as it's a garden room whether it is ok to do that in this instance?

I am looking to build my own when we get the new house in spring. I am currently looking for the timber for the frame work. Do you have any recommended suppliers and what dimensions you use? We are based in Scarborough.
@pauldevlin6382

Because this was slightly tapered at the back, does it affect the angles of the rafters? I’m building a shed/outbuilding with one angled wall so the with goes from about 1.8m to about 2.8m. I’m predicting issues angles but maybe not…??

So say I follow the steps and am extra careful to ensure the roof has no sharp areas that could damage the rubber. How else could moisture get between the ply and insulation? I haven't boarded the soffits yet but I'm ruling out upwards rain 😂

@thegardenroomguru

Here’s the problem with idiots like you. You know nothing, if you understood that we are keeping under 2.5 height limit, then you wouldn’t make thick comments like that, and you’d know that any other joist will not do. I’ll keep building my sheds, you keep watching me and trying to put me down. Jealousy is a terrible thing, idiotic keyboard warriors like you just keep fuelling my income, more comments means more money, get back under your rock and keep watching the game leader 🤣

It may look a bit funny but the joist hangers are perfect for that.... if it works it works. I dont know if anyone has tested how much force it would take for them to fail, but id imagine it would be similar to the standard restraints straps. No way that roof is going to uplift.... unless it takes the rest of the building with it 😂
