Good tutorial, Natquascape. I strongly recommend having zero sponges inside the filter entirely, as the pre-filter sponges takes care of the particulates. The pre-filter should be fine if you service (clean the 'ring' sponges) weekly. Inside, it's highly recommended to use only Seachem Matrix as your biological filtration media on all 3x internal trays. It's proven to be the most porous biological media available on the market. It's highly recommended to put the bag of Seachem Purigen along with the bag of activated charcoal at the very top internal tray, on top of the wool polishing pad. This means the water inflows from the intake valve, down through the the series of pre-intake 'ring' sponges, then up the 3x internal trays and out of the filter. I hope that helps, as it is the optimal biological filtration for any tank.

Hi mate, how to control the water flow going into the tank from the filter? Lovely video by the way!
@Natquascape
@Natquascape 4 жыл бұрын
If you are using Lilly pipes then you will need to plum in some taps. Some good ones are made by betta and eheim. If you are using the fittings that come with the filter, then you can adjust them directly on the inlet and outlet tubes that come with the filter. I hope that helps. Thanks, natquascape

Very Helpful thanks, Question : - Would you use the Oase250 on a 200L aquarium ? Oase state it is adequate at 900l/h flow and I am replacing a eheim 2215 with it which has 660L/H main reason is to get heater out of tank . The eheim has done a good job but must be 40 Years old and looking to retire it gracefully.
@Natquascape
@Natquascape 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian. If the oase was good then the 250 will be fine too. All depends on water flow in the tank too. Did you use lilly pipes on the eheim?
@bonwrentaylor2743
@bonwrentaylor2743 2 жыл бұрын
You would want an Oase 600 (at least) on a 200l aquarium. I have a 200l aquarium and have recently bought an Oase 600 after doing A LOT of research. I was initially going to install a 350 on the tank but after researching things realised it would be better to select the 600. Ridiculously, filter manufacturers base the recommended aquarium size their filter will be suitable for, on the filters flow rate with ZERO media inside the filter. Once you add media, obviously the flow rate will greatly reduce. The flow rate will reduce further still once the filter does its intended job and inevitably starts to become dirty/blocked. Therefore, ALWAYS better to buy a much bigger filter than the manufacturers recommend for the size of your tank. I would have even bought the Oase 850 for my 200l but it was too big for my cabinet !! I settled on the 600 in the end which I think is adequately sized.

Great vid love oase filters. Weekly clean of the pre filter and you probably only need to clean the main canister once or twice a year. Top tip put the end of the hose in a cup of hot water for few seconds and slides right on to your glassware with ease😀

nice video mate. I've never used chemical filtration in my tanks how does it help?
@Natquascape
@Natquascape 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Keys tanks, tha is for the support. Purigen is really good at adsorbing nitrogenous waste so ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Carbon is good at adsorbing lots of waste chemicals produced from decomposing faeces, plants and leaching of tannins. Carbon is good at adsorbing (not absorbing) inorganic waste as well. As an organic chemist, I use activated carbon loaded with metals such as platinum and palladium to do catalytic chemical reactions, therefore aware of how carbon can adsorb certain chemicals produced in an aquarium

What do u do when u can see a lot of air trapped in the tubings during priming? Tried to prime it many times but doesnt work.
@Natquascape
@Natquascape 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, ok....I had this problem initially too...it took a while for the air to come out. Is the canestet full of water? If so then the only other suggestion I can think of is if the tubing length is too long....may need to shorten to stop air circulating at the top of the pump. I so tinea have had to fill the canister up manually with water at the sink.....place the top and pre filter on at the sink....let the excess water spill over.. not a problem if you are at the sink. Then take the canister to the tank and plumb it back in and all should be ok...providing the tubing is not too long. Yon can always try and add water into the tubing to and then turn on the filter pump. Hope these suggestions help. Best wishes, Natquascape

Carbon should always be the last thing in your filter,in this case it flows from bottom to top,so the carbon or purigen should be in the very top tray!!!!
