@@JamesHargreavesGuitar by the way, if you listen to the Dave Sardy mix of this song, some of the "hidden" elements become a lot more clear. The first time I heard it was also the first time I heard that weird keyboard in the intro. Its mixed much louder

5:51 - Noel's harmony ('I said well') has been one of my favorite parts of the song for years. I can hear it near the end of the song in the full mix. Pretty cool that you called it out! Nice job, as always. Really enjoy these breakdowns.

I've read an interview with Anjali Dutt about recording Definitely Maybe, and she seems to recall Guigsy playing bass on most of the songs such as Cigarettes and alchohol, Live forever and rock n roll star, and that the only one's the noel played on are Slide away and Up in the Sky

I’m sure I watched a 25th anniversary interview where Noel said that every song started with him recording a basic acoustic track and they started from there. I thought that would mean every song would have a straight acoustic track buried in the mix, but I guess they just wipe that track once the electric rhythm guitar and base parts are added? Ps Just sat in my garden listening to what’s the story and wondering if the acoustic version of wonderwall we hear on the album intro before Hello is the base track and also the intro to acquiescence could be the acoustic base of what’s the story title track?? Hope you know what I mean because I’ve had a few beers and I’m not sure I do d’yer know what I mean

Not being a guitar player, I never knew how much "wall of sound" some artists put into their studio mixes. Is this what defined 90s-era British rock? How the heck do they keep track of it all when writing? I take it live performances are some sort of generalized mix of all this stuff...?
@geraldpower54916 ай бұрын
Overdubbing, layering or whatever had been standard for years before the 1990s. Think Led Zepp and Pink Floyd in the 1970s. The technology was there and record companies were happy to indulge their artists studio time to do all this. And guitarists have tended to embrace the opportunities. Sound engineers kept track of it. You're right that live performances are necessarily stripped down. You can easily find a live performance of this track and see what Noel has retained and what he has dispensed with. I am actually surprised there is not more guitar overdubs on this!

This song was very hard to reproduce live! Especially for Oasis Mach I.... But when Gem came along, & played the lead guitar licks that are on the record, suddenly the song sounded properly done! Having said that... I definitely miss Bonehead's power chord rhythm guitar part live! It added some extra 'oomph,' especially right before the guitar solo. Final verdict: Gimme the Oasis Mach I version of this, even if it does sound much more ' stripped down!'

(Even liam himself was begging me to) please? Pretty please? Pretty please with sugar on top?” What you hear in that little bit is me saying “naah guys your allright.you guys crack on.
