As. Teenager, I loved Slade. As a 65 year old I love them more.. I play bass and love playing along with some of their songs...

I do not know wtf these brain dead concert goers were here? My immediate circle in college would have killed to see Oasis live! Grunge was dominant here at the time and overtaking pop music...Britpop was more like the Cure or Duran Duran here at the time. My wife and I will be there in Chicago in August...had no idea that was the breakup date?! 😮 Well done James, ty for sharing!

While not an official tour, they did do multiple dates in the US in 1999 for KROQ. Check out the Rodney Bigenheimer doco to see some great footage from the LA show shortly after Gem and Andy joined.

What went wrong for Oasis in the USA is the same thing that goes wrong for a lot of "foreign" bands in the USA, they refused to play the game the way the American's expected and wanted it to be played. When you take that, and add a pair as volatile and brash as the Gallagher brothers, it's really not that much of a shock that they didn't win over the American hearts and minds.

I'm sorry, but you can't put Jimmy Page ahead of Jeff Beck. I'm pretty sure it's illegal.

I was lucky to see them in 97 on U2s Popmart tour in Oakland CA. They were testing out live material for Be here now. I immediately bought the album after hearing Dya know what I mean live.

Unlike every other commenter I actually wasn't there - but well remember listening to it on the Friday Rock Show - totally electrifying set. People talk about Queen at Live Aid - amateur hour compared to Nod and the boys in their pomp - they should have opened that aswell.

You can the same thing about ABBA. They were a big deal everywhere except the US. They finally broke through here with the their greatest hits album in the 90s.

It depends on your inheritance.If you love music when you listen a song it is received from your ear then through your heart and spirit.You have to practice and practice and so on.Whether chords or soloing notes by your ear from your heart without reading notes or chords applied it to a song by your own.You can also build a juet or trio if you have companion same as you.

Gallaghers clearly werent responsible for Hutchences death but they are still w*nkrs. Wheres the sources that Michael said anything about Oasis besides some song lyrics? And what "weird love triangles" ? this is so one sided.

They should make a film like Bohemian Rhapsody. What an epic story. I was a fan in the early 70's but didn't hear of them again until KZbin came along. They did some great songs. Looking back it's some of the later material I now prefer. How does it feel, Everyday, Far far away. Great mix of songs too. If anyone wants to make a film my son is a script writer and I can direct music. Well, it's worth a punt!

I think Oasis went over very well personally. I think they went over better than Radiohead for example the difference is Radiohead put in the work in. It saddens me Oasis didn't see it out on those tours because if they had made a proper go of it they could have been like Led Zeppelin imo they could have been massive but Noel said in an interview years after they were too Manchurian in their outlook. I think they were the sort who would likely get homesick and missed those little home comforts like Coronation Street, Match of The Day and British food like Fish and Chips etc nothing wrong with that mind 😄

I hear the final two seconds as “There wasn’t any other way”. I always thought it was to explain their new brave style, as Brian Epstein may not have liked it so they had to explain it. There wasn’t any other way to move on, keep going. That’s what I took from it.

As a US late Gen X (1977), I just discovered Slade about six months. Holy shit, they are criminally underrated and should have made a bigger splash in the US. I've liked every single song that I've heard the first time and it usually takes a lot of exposure for something to grow on me.
@Freespeech141Күн бұрын
They were in control, on top of the industry at the time. Why didn’t they push for a different concept? Did they sell out or didn’t have the continuity material or simply couldn’t be bothered?? Academic now! We love what we got. I know one thing, they hated analysis like this! They really did resist it with A “WTF” attitude. You accepted their work or not, but they did not like it being pulled apart. Check the old interviews being asked such questions, they crack jokes, tell lies! But never get into any “meaning of” stuff…. 🤷♀️ just sayin’

The stories have always been fascinating, but now that I'm older and wiser I realise what a sociopathic, attention whore nuisance Keith must've been as a band mate. Having played four decades I've been in many bands. Luckily I only clashed with one drummer. He was also a petty, ego maniac who threw drum sticks at the back of my head, and didn't want me "stealing his thunder" (actual quote). After threatening to kick my ass a dozen times I finally called his bluff and put an end to his BS. Having to work with these types is a nightmare. The money must've been worth it. It's amazing they survived as a band long as they did.

They didn’t relate to Americans because most Americans aren’t used to bands not caring about what they say. Bands over here were always trying to pretend to be intellectuals. Oasis were trying to get rich being themselves and singing their songs. They didn’t dance. They didn’t glam up. They were gang with guitars and a mic stand.
