I'm convinced that Standing on the shoulder of Giants could have been an outstanding album with a different track listing. If Liam sung vocals ion the b-sides and the Album was recorded in the 90's style then the 'new' version of SOTSG you suggest would have been incredible. I think that's the 'lost' album I yearn for the most. The others would all be interesting but a 90s SOTSOG with the chaff removed and the quality b-sides added would be something else.

Alan White was the bands most creative and effective drummer. Unfortunately for Whitey he couldn't do as much creative stuff as he was more than capable of because the songs Noel was writing between 95-99 were very limited in their structuring, if that makes sense. I owe Alan a beer for playing such good grooves on Wonderwall, DLBIA, and Champagne Supernova and inspiring me to get behind the kit.

The Knebworth broadcast used to be available everywhere online, and Squire's guitar was not only out of tune, but his playing was also sloppy. I think I heard in a later interview that he was sick, so he might have even asked later to mute his playing himself. Either way, he did not sound good at all and most likely feels embarrassed about his performance. Also, Gem and Andy did not play on SOTSOG. Noel and Paul Stacey recorded their parts ;)

Thanks for bringing up White's departure. That's always been a mystery to me, and I never accepted Noel's explanation. . . Love his playing. Major collaborator on WTSMG -- such a unique touch that helped the band nail their more ambitious efforts. I've come to accept with Oasis you're half way out the door if one of the brother's didn't like you, loyalty be damned. I thought Liam had a good relationship with White, but it sounds like both of them wanted to sack him for Starkey. I wonder if him getting tinnitus was an issue. when you consider how Noel manufactured his exit to make the others look bad it's plausible they are all giving conflicting reports to avoid them looking bad for sacking a drummer simply because they wanted someone else. . .

There's that sparse clip that does the rounds of Liam in his giant black coat, with hood up, and Neol in his leather jacket, and the two exchanging a cheeky kiss. THere's also the infamous story in the run-up to the gig where Liam's voice was shredded, he cod;t even speak, and was meant be having a few nights of requisite R n R in a placid hotel to convalesce, away from the chaos and the chang..BUT as he's approaching the driveway, so the legend goes, Johnny Five Bellies clocks him - cut to Gazza goading Liam to have a drink (or twelve). Liam, contrary to conventional wisdom, decided that a quiet night in his room watching Gladiators/Blind Date/Stars in their Eyes might not be conducive to a golden voice at Loch Lomond, decides to join famously crazy/alcoholic/depressove/OCD and ADHD-beset Gasgoine. They drank ceaselessly - I can only imagine the type fo numbers we're talking (30 pints and 15 shots?, and whatever Liam was having). Somewhat inexplicably Liam showed up for the gig AND the whiskies had evidently annihilated the germs decimating his immune system. By all accounts he sang seamlessly - unless that's the reason Noel wants to the tapes jettisoned. But Liam has said, against all odds, he sounded good...Then again he was only in his early 20s...pratically invincible.

There are no band credits whatsoever in the liner notes, only credits for additional musicians. This may be because they were unsure who would replace Guigs and Bonehead but still wanted to present the band as a five-piece group, so they left the information out to avoid confusion. Additionally, according to Bonehead, some of his contributions can be heard on the album, which might indicate Noel’s usual shady attitude - remaining silent about performances and creative contributions to preserve his own legacy.

Considering how many shows they played, why were some of their songs never played live? In particular Hey Now, She’s Electric (with Liam singing) and Underneath The Sky?

James, what do you know about a song from around the Be Here Now era called The Red, The White and The Blue? It was talked about, I seem to remember it was referring to the Union Jack and may have got scrapped in case it got “adopted by skinheads” which seems unlikely as that movement more related to the eighties

I hope Noel and Liam casually follow your channel. You literally gave them some good ideas for releasing more songs from their catalog, which would make them more money. It's hard to say how much work it'd take to make your proposals on the missing albums work, but it can't be that bad.

I think that there is a CD of the Radio One broadcast of the Knebworth show. Not the current version that came out a couple of years ago.

I remember Courtney Love saying her and Ed Norton went to watch Oasis play at Loch Lomond in 1996. With regards to Be Here Now. I know Noel hates 'Magic Pie', but I would love a version where you can hear Noel's solos in that song. You can really hear them in the live version. On the album version, they are hidden in the mix and almost non-existent

I havent even finished the video but i ALWAYS WONDERED WHY YOU COULDNT HEAR THE SOLO IN I AM THE WALRUS. Just before the blu ray came out i used to listen to the bootleg versions on youtube of i am the walrus and sound very different. I was going to ask on reddit why they sounded so different, now I know why.

Amazing! What did you mean by taking an orchestra on be here now and transferring that to a guitar speaker.

The Smashing Pumpkins had an internet stream live from their infamous tragic show in Dublin in May 1996. Nothing exists from that broadcast in the fan community, but it was said to be of terrible quality, both audio and video as the internet was still in its infancy. I wonder if it was the case with the Oasis show as well? The actual film probably exists somewhere (the Pumpkins' opening act called Filter have used some footage from their set that night in a documentary, so tapes exist, indepedently from the stream). But I wouldn't expect much quality from someone's recording of the actual Oasis broadcast. Hopefully I'm wrong!

Wowl There were more versions of Alan White's departure than Rashamon! PS Controversial point but I can't be alone in thinking the Brotherly Love Tour proves Alan's brother Steve, who replaced him for those few weeks in the US on tour with the Black Crowes, was the more badass drummer of the two. All other members - Gem, Andy, Noel, Mickey Roe, were the same, only variable was the drummer, and the songs sounded MONSTERr. Just my opinion. If there's ever a reunion (which I don't see happening) I'm hoping - Steve White, Gem Archer, Noel, Liam (lol, obvs), Bonehead, Guigsy should get first refusal but let's face it a Sasquatch is more likely to join...so Andy B or just a one of Liam or Noel's' new band members...who seem reliable.

Steve White hits harder than His Brother, and He had that perfect mix of Tony McCarrolls aggressiveness with His own (And His Brothers) technical ability.

I had a demo type cd that was from way before sotsog was officially released, I got my hands on it around the spring/summer of 1999. Don’t ask me where I got it as I’ve no idea haha but some of the songs sound different than those on the album. I think I still have it in my collection but my CDs are in storage back home. If I can get my hands on it I’ll try and fire you a copy of it.

I don’t believe bonehead and Guigs were removed from the fourth album. I remember reading Noel also denied this. They wasn’t credited probably because of some bad blood going on. I definitely don’t believe Gem and Andy re-recorded the parts

Have you heard the song "Red Wine Supernova" by Chappell Roan? She's an emerging pop star that's getting super popular and one of her biggest songs has a nod to Oasis in the title

Noel has said that he hates Be Here Now, so I doubt he will ever work on it again. I loved it the way it was. It captures the full awesomeness of the Gallagher brothers. It was as loud, obnoxious, and badass as they are. It's not their best album from front to back, but I wouldn't change it.

All the song lists of demos from Heathen Ghemistry and Don't Believe The Truth and all when it said they recorded over 60+ songs, enough to do double albums but never did. I know that they gave demo discs to friends around that time that had songs (some that'd be redone by Beady Eye) like: Wigwam / Evil Eye / Ballrom Figured / Longtime Servant Of The Gun / Standing On The Edge Of The Noise.....I know there were more unreleased song titles, but I have to look for it. I used to copy lists of demo discs when I saw photos and hoped they'd leak.

And I know Liam handed out a demo disc during Heathen Chemistry that had Turn Up The Sun / Evil Eye / Wigwam / Eyeball Tickler and all so those songs were around in the vaults for years.

I don’t massively want a reunion but I agree, if it happens I want Alan on drums. I’d have Gem and Bonehead on bass too (like the morning glory SNL appearance).
@PaperBanjo645 ай бұрын
I'd like to see Bonehead and Gem on guitar, Noel or Liam's bass player...besides with 3 guitars it would sound even more massive and Gem and Noel could trade off solos...also on songs like Don't Look Back in Anger Noel could play acoustic, Bonehead electric rhythm guitar, Gem on lead guitar.

I still have a couple of Knebworth bootlegs (those silver pressed cds that I used to collect in the 90s) that were surely sourced from the radio. I will listen to them and check if I hear any John Squire on I Am the Walrus (or if they sound any different from the tracks that are commonly available on KZbin).
