Please, please, PLEASE cover more material from the 2000s era. This was when I first got into music growing up, and Heathen Chemistry was my first Oasis album. There's no shortage of Brit Pop retrospectives, but hardly anything that delves into the days of SOTSOG, HC, DBTT and DOYS. Would love to see your retrospection and analysis on that era, James ♥

I live in Utah, USA. I didn’t discover Oasis until they had split up but quickly became obsessed (in about 2011). I’d take early morning runs along the Wasatch Front (HUGE mountains) every summer morning before it got too hot, listening to Oasis tunes on random. One morning, as Roll it Over was playing, the sun burst over the mountain at EXACTLY 4:11 in the song when the choir comes in and Liam sings the chorus for the last time. I cannot describe what a powerful experience that was for me. I’ve never shared that story before because I’ve never met any big Oasis fans in my area. Thanks for all if your hard work. ❤️

My dad is close to passing away through alcohol. He's a terrible person when drinking, but he's still my dad. I discovered Roll it Over in November 2021, when he was in hospital. We said our goodbyes, and I just so happened to listen to the entirety Shoulders of Giants that day, Roll it over stuck out to me because of the line 'Leave me here'. It made me think of how selfish my dad was, to continue drinking and leave me on the planet without him there. The way Liam sings it, I balled my eyes out all night to that song. He somehow survived, he's still alive. He doesn't have long left but we're back on good terms now, and Roll It Over will be played at his funeral. Words cannot describe what it meant to me, when Liam played it at Knebworth

Go let it out, who feels love, the 2 you named, and roll it over are really good songs. Maybe the album does not have a 10, like live forever, supernova etc, so that is why i think this album is not seen as legendary, but many songs are still a solid 7.5 and would not be misplaced if they were on be here now for example.

Thank you so much for this channel. I was stationed in England from 98 to 01 and fell in love with Oasis and most of Britpop, except the Blur. LOL. We had heard some Oasis back in the States in 95' like Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova.. but nothing like I experience in England. I was over there when this album came out and I thought it was amazing. Its highly underrated in my opinion. Thank you for this video, one of my favorite tracks ever. Keep Britpop alive over there. It's definitely about Meg Matthews, and the 'Plastic people /who never bring a chair" were her mates knocking about at the time. On the Parkinson interview Noel said (to paraphrase) "Once I was off drugs I realised I didn't even like the people coming round my house. "Who are you, what are you doing round my house?. Get out"". 'Where Did It All Go Wrong?' is about that too. "Do you keep the receipts for the friends that you buy". It was a (justifiably) cynical time for Noel.

Underrated for sure! This was my first oasis album and I still love it, and this is my favourite song in it. Something interesting happened at an oasis forum I was in back in the day: They decided to let the community pick their 10 favourite oasis songs from all their catalog to make an unofficial compilation when they disbanded. Everyone was really surprised when Roll it over made it to the top ten most voted songs from the band. Really a gem.

Woke up in a Roll It Over mood today for a rainy drizzle day. Hey, this is one of the best Oasis songs; it is the "champagne supernova" of SOTSOG. Honestly, it hits hard because so few lyrics and yet it tells, and gives the feels, so much. And the guitar solo, don't even get me started, let's just listen to it together! Thx for being a certified Oasis nerd. You've helped a lot of us out 😂✌🏻 On to resume video now as this was recommended and now I've gotta know more 🍾☄️✨

This is why I love SOTSOG so much and imo, better than Be Here Now. It was the darkest point of Oasis's career and Noel's life. The "blizzard" storm that was the 90s was coming down and the party days were over then you come to realization on the more philosophical points of life. That lifestyle is behind you and now you ponder upon the more existential aspects of life. That is the reason why the album is so dark yet psychedelic as well as experimental. This was the time both Noel and Liam were coming off drugs and Noel suffered heavy panic attacks in the middle of the night due to the withdrawal on the verge "dying." If it wasn't for his wife calming him down during these panic attacks, severe consequences could have happened. As well as both the Gallagher brothers were fathers now at this point and Noel having his first child in the year 2000. Thus, this is why I love this album. Noel and Oasis always gave the appearance of not being "depressed" and always jolly lads but I do love how depressing and dark the album SOTSOG is which was unexpected by Oasis at the time. A brilliant album and looking forward to more analysis on the 2000s era of Oasis. Cheers!

Great tune. To me it's a look back to the heyday of Oasis which they knew was behind them, and the hangers on, who took everything they could from the brothers Gallagher while things were good, but we no where to be seen when times got tough. "Look around at all the plastic people who live without a care Try to sit with me around my table but never bring a chair" The returning vocals at 4:11 are simply epic. One of Liam's best vocal performances ever imo.

I believe that Liam didn't choose Roll it Over randomly for this 22' tour. That day in Manchester was the very first time that he sing it live. Considering his new album where we he has songs like "Wave" with lines like: My brother don't like me He's said it before Who threw the first stone, yeah And who's keeping score? Just trying to keep dancing My way to your door It's a rave, it's a rave, you can make that wave Happen And when the meadow gets me I leave a beautiful sound behind - Have faith in the future That's perfectly clear Let's stop the world burning Well, maybe next year Get together before It all ends in tears Every day, every day we could make that change Happen - I think the Wave is oasis getting back together. And Liam a Noel rolling over that wheel.

I also thought it was about Meg from the beginning, the whole thing makes even more sense if you consider that there were versions of the album that included "Let's all make believe" at the end and after "Roll it over", but Noel decided maybe that those 2 songs at the end would make and extremely dark ending, but those 2 songs come hand in hand because they explain a certain period of Noel's life were relations were starting to end, both songs were written around the same year, maybe the same months.

James I need a video on Sunday Morning Call. It’s my 2nd favourite Oasis song and I need to know why Noel hates it so much. At the time it was released Noel seemed to be pleased with it, releasing it as the 3rd single from the album, and Liam is even quoting as saying “it’s my favourite track on the album….and I don’t even sing on it”. I need a definitive answer

Perhaps for Noel it marked a profoundly unhappy time? Obviously it was, isn’t it almost always so, especially when there are children? But t might have been so deeply hurtful that he questioned everything. Noel has always been such a pro that his output didn’t suffer, but I’m wondering if he did, instead. An oddball idea. When I’m unhappy it does block me.

I was very excited at the time because roll it over was my favorite song of the album, and beign the last single i was expecting a really cool video. In the end SOTSOG only had 3 singles + gas panic as the promo song for familiar to millions. So ROLL IT OVER was the lost single of Sotsog. Could you research what happend? Why they scrapped it as a single. I always believe that was because the album didnt do the expected sales. Hope you find out what really went out

James is just such a good storyteller. Not in a bedtime story way, but a mixture of warmth without sycophancy and of objectivity. He researches his topics, is intelligent in filling in gaps, while always telling us what his level of confidence is & why. I have to say, I’ve been completely captivated by his many really interesting & enjoyable stories, his musical talents (which are really high level) and a very listenable voice & physiog to look at. I’m confident that if he wants to, he will have a commercial career in & around the music biz. Why do I say that? Because he has a really strong foundation, one helluva work ethic, people skills enough to be enjoyable to be around & the humility to being open to feedback. To your question, I think that would be terrific. It’s possible that sufficient time has passed that she might be willing to speak, though I hope for her sake, that if she does, she stays off camera. She strikes me as a discrete person and a wise one. She gave only two interviews about NG/Oasis, one of which was her local paper in San Fran & I think the other was a music magazine. Very very little considering how apparently newsworthy Oasis was for the tabloids year after year. Gold diggers would have been a right pain & had to be bought off. It’s possible that it was no special thing for Melissa Lim. Who knows. Alternatively, it may have been very deep & would easily have been “the one” for them both. I like to think the latter. NG is a proud man, had to grow up way too early & probably his front hides a lot of pain & an intense need for a REAL relationship with his wife & kids. People often criticise NG but, as a kid who shares a great deal of the ghastliness of an upbringing in a broken home or worse, one that should have been but didn’t break up, you wouldn’t wish it on your worst enemy. Like NG, I was dead fortunate in meeting my forever partner after a few false starts, at least two of which could easily have been forever. Scratch that. Exactly two. The rest were girlfriends. NG has had an advantage that not all of us have & that’s that his mum has always loved him & he speaks with great warmth about her. Peggy evidently wants her boys to be happy but also wants her boys to be on good terms. Funnily enough, considering NG often says things about LG’s bad behaviour to his wife & baby girl and never apologised or even accepted he’d done wrong. NG has said in interviews that it’s a character fault he has but he just doesn’t do forgiveness. Now, position all that against this. Just before one of Liam’s huge concerts, he was saying (in a very recent interview) that he didn’t go to watch City play, he was anxious - he didn’t use that word, but the things he said made that likely - and, get this, said he stayed at home to watch the match. While describing the ups & downs of the match, he mentioned that “Arkid popped by”. Our kid is local slang for brother. I suppose he might have meant Paul G. But every impression was innocently given that it was Noel. You don’t pop round to your brothers if you hate him. Personally I hope they never reform Oasis. The magic is lost in time, lost inside. We fans know how much that era meant to us back then. Let’s keep moving forward, glance over our shoulders but don’t look back in anger.

I didn't like Standing on the Shoulder of Giants the first time I heard it. I listened to it once, and then didn't listen to it again for a few years. When I came back and listened to it again a few years later, I fell in love with it. Top to bottom, I would say that it is my favorite album of theirs now. It doesn't have as many great individual songs a some of their albums, but it is a very solid album with a very cohesive vision from start to finish. I have really grown to appreciate it.

And he completely nailed it at knebworth ,you could tell he was in the zone & knowing full well how good he had belted this out ,I bet it brought back similar feelings to him when on top form with Oasis ,looked that way to me ❤

You’ve hit the nail on the head James! I love that song too, glad you’ve pointed out the Come Together solo. Just thinking have you ever mentioned Noel playing with Damon in Gorillaz etc?

I have to say that definitely maybe sounds like an intriguing project, but, don't they hate each other a LOT? 🤔

I really do like Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants. Probably my 3rd fav Oasis album. Favs of mine are Go Let It Out, Who Feels Love?, Gas Panic!, Where Did It All Go Wrong? and Sunday Morning Call and of course, Roll It Over. Even I like Little James, which I don’t hear many Oasis fans like.

I think this being about NG's marriage breakdown is a good guess, and likely the case. Although as James said there's lack of 'background info' on what went on, personally, during that period, that relationship had to have been fraught. NG basically broke up with Meg (even though she eventually filed divorce, he had met someone else 1st) within 6 months of their only child's birth. There had to have been major longterm issues for that to occur, given that he's pretty family-oriented when it comes to his children at least.

No, it's about the future Noel Gallagher, meaning the Noel Gallagher now, the starfucker, the celebrity stalker.

My view has always been the Noel gave up drugs, and Meg couldn't/wouldn't. She's openly talked about struggling with alcohol and drug addiction well into the 2000s, while Noel has steered away from hard drugs since 1999.

Excellent video as always. My favorite song from the SOTSOG era is the acoustic/piano version of Where did it all go wrong that they played on Jools Holland. I think that should have been the album version. Also, instantly I thought Roll it Over was about Meg.

I know so much about oasis and their glory days now because of you. please,I hope you cover all of the oasis story up until their eventual split. What happened after knebworth,I'd like to know🤔. Can anyone tell me where to find just the instrumental of Roll it Over, that’s played in the background of this video? Even without Liam’s superb vocals, the melody alone stands on its own.

This song would be fitting as an 'end of oasis' era song, as Noel could've given a hundred million reasons to build a barricade with Liam etc and how their relationship had became distant as was falling apart (separate tour busses and more)

I love these song breakdowns. Is there any chance you'd do one for Setting Sun? Despite being an Oasis fan for decades i just found out Noel pinched the lyrics from "Coming On Strong". I'd love to hear your thoughts on it and the original track 🎵🎵
