I love Liam - he's a brilliant frontman and hilarious - but my god can you imagine having to put up with him 24/7?! It's incredible Noel lasted so long.
@edvinparmeza12982 жыл бұрын
It's true, he has abused with the band's patience and tolerance for almost 20 years. Noel himself said that "If I didn't decide to leave the band back in 2009 after the last show, I was going to leave it later anyway", all the frustration he had with Liam was accumulated during the years, and the break-up would happen sooner or later. What has surprised me, though, is that Noel was the one who was abused physically by their father when they were kids, and he turned that pain into strength and became a better person while growing up, while Liam was the opposite, he wasn't touched by their father, but he grew up to become an abuser similar to him.
@Matthew-ve7uv2 жыл бұрын
Whoa whoa whoa, abuser? You mean physically? Jesus Christ, that's a big claim. I mean, he got into fights with grown lads, but by abuser like his Dad, you mean he hit women and children? That's just a straight-up fucking slander -- his kids seem to love him, and he cheated on his wife but never abused her. If they aren't claiming abuse, who the fuck are you to make it up? Jesus

During his time living in London, my brother met both the Gallagher brothers a number of times. He liked them. Lived round the corner from Liam. One thing I got from my brothers experience with Liam, and from what he personally confided, is that he was surrounded by lots of hangers on and ended up getting in to crazy situations with them. Without sounding too infantilising I suppose you could call it peer pressure? One of these hangers on knicked my brothers pint, Liam found out about it and spent the rest of the night buying him drinks. He has a good heart underneath the silly bravado.

One brother was gifted with the signature voice and was like a class clown with ADHD while the other brother was more serious, but at times was very authoritarian and like a dictator. No wonder they didn't get on easy. Liam was just having the crack at it, enjoying the rapid fame and wild ride of being in a band. Noel had already been in the music scene and carried himself like a businessman and songwriter, but at the same time when they signed that record deal, he got the biggest boost of an ego and that was it. It says a lot listening to what Tony McCarroll had to say about his time in the band. Listening to how he played drums and how he recently played Don't Look Back In Anger, it was clear as glass that Noel just didn't like him. Democracy in Oasis came down to Liam and Noel and the rest of the guys just followed. Liam is a dog and Noel is a cat. Both can be very loyal and loving, but a dog off his leash can tear shit up. A cat is easy to piss off and when you do piss one off, you'll be the first to get those claws to your face. The relationship between them is probably the most intriguing relationship outside of John and Paul in the Beatles. Despite the ups and downs and what inevitably came crashing down in 2009 with Oasis dismantling itself, they did incredible things together and became one of the most amazing bands in the history of all of music. Even though they don't get on now, I'm sure they both can agree deep down that they have love for one another.
@mywhychromosome2 жыл бұрын
Great comment, although I will say, as much as I personally love Mccarroll's almost Velvet Underground-esque drumming, there are several, much more measured, 'professional' types around the band (producers, managers, engineers, etc) who have testified to the difficulties they experienced with him as a player. There's so many particular pressures on a drummer, things that aren't acceptable for them to do that would be okay for most other instruments in the band, and Tony did most of them, apparently (inability to maintain consistent tempo throughout a take, recreation of the same fills at various points in the performance, etc). It was essentially a studio issue, so if they'd wanted to be very diplomatic, they could've gotten a session drummer for recordings and kept Tony on as live member, but...we all know that wasn't going to happen, lol

So many facets to this, too. To some extent, politicians always just had a veneer of high-class acceptability while being little better... @Rob Wood In this one particular case, people tend to agree that the publicity was better than that gig. But as Hargreaves has said, that gig had Sony execs at it, it was important. It's entirely possible that their antics wouldn't have gotten noticed, and they wouldn't have gotten another chance anytime soon. It was a massive (albeit probably unintentional) gamble by Liam behind Noel's back. Also, as was said, Liam's later antics would indeed be taken as obnoxious and disrespectful to fans, causing their decline in popularity to be as quick as their rise (and definitely contributed to them never taking off in America).

I think it’s because Oasis were wild and considered more interesting than some of the other bands. I wish he’d do Happy Mondays though!

When both people are shouting, nobody is listening. The cornerstone of any relationship. They both know what each other are on about, but neither will admit the other is also right. Noel more than Liam, but both have their own valid point. Also, the band was destroyed because of this kind of attitude from Liam, not Noel's. Although they were mediocre after 1997 anyway. Too much money and coke and whatever.

Liam had a nice-ish voice here as a young lad.. round about early mid 2000s though it changed and became really gritty sounding and pretty nasty tbh..

If these two buggers can get back together anyone can. Noel will have his ex paid off by the summer 2025.

Imo Noel Gallagher gave his brother the world. Without those original songs Liam never be famous. NG will go down as prolific songwriter when it’s over.

They both gave each other world... alone they wouldn't have gone anywhere... even Noel would and has admitted, multiple times, that he would not be where he is without Liam inviting him to join Oasis.
