@@Wearethewingmakers Actually mate it's highly likely to be about a girl he met in San Francisco when he dumped the rest of the band and went on the run after a disasterous gig in the Whisky a go go,her name was Melissa Lim.Rumour is that a large part of Whats the Story Morning Glory is written about her impact on him during that troubled time in his mind.Who knows the truth for sure?...Noel and about 3 other people on this earth knowing how closed off he is.The fact is he started dating Meg Matthews one month after saying goodbye to Lim and Wonderwall materialises like a puff of smoke out the air means no one will ever know.He'd probably say it was written for me if he really needed to...possibly his finest songwriting moment though.

Actually, Noel wrote this song before Oasis were even signed to the creation label. Which means he had not met Meg yet. So it can't be about her.

I remember seeing this on Muchmusic in the late 90's and having new respect for Oasis ( I was a 12(ish) year old Canadian so they weren't gods to me) and looking up how to play it on guitar because it seemed so achievable and then learning it over about a day or so. It was the very first song where I could actually strum and sing along at the same time... I still relearn it at least once a year ( I always forget how the bridge goes ). Hope it continues to inspire for years to come

Well he wrote it for his ex-wife when they were still together, but the band made him decide between singing on Wonderwall or another song for the album, both he songs he wrote. Noel picked the other song to sing on, so Liam did the lead vocals on the album version of "Wonderwall"
