My niece was born addicted to amphetamine and opioids. I know this is very different from cannabis that you are covering, but I just figured I’d give it a mention.. she is now seven years old and she has been diagnosed with attention, deficit disorder and impulsivity and everything so far tracks for what you are saying how it affects these children and it’s so unfortunate. We did adopt her as her birth mother is unfit and her father is unknown, but she is a normal child otherwise but every day is definitely a struggle trying to raise a child in this world that was born addicted as a layer of difficulty that could have been avoided completely . Illicit drugs and children do not mix. I wish that everybody who finds out they are pregnant would just give their kid a fighting chance and quit for the whatever it is 89 months however long they are pregnant and respect these children and theirs, the world is already hard enough to exist in and be successful. Thank you for covering this topic. I hope it reaches whoever needs to see it.

This was a great video. I love that you guys are giving the whole of these studies and are clear that some of the outcomes can be still unknown based on how the studies are done. Keep up the great work!

I'm doing everything i can to get pregnant. Taking iui this month. Praying for a blessing. I cant even understand the people who continue substance use during pregnancy. 😢

I definitely don’t use substances during pregnancy BUT it took ivf and 5 years to get pregnancy with baby #2 and while on vacation I would use some cannabis edibles in moderate amounts. It would decrease stress, improve my sleep and also increase my appetite. Two weeks later I found I was pregnant with my third. Wild but true.

Love your videos!! Kind of related/unrelated request for a future video: there has been a lot of research (and pseudo-research) into the benefits of concentrated doses of mushrooms (like turkey tail mushrooms - NOT magic mushrooms) but it’s hard to find much valuable information online about potential issues or unknowns with taking concentrated doses of mushrooms, or other vitamin/supplements for that matter. I’d love it if you could talk about this a bit - the unknowns and/or dangers of too much of a vitamin or concentrate and where to generally draw the line. We all want to do the best for our babies and our bodies but how much is too much?

I was interested in this also while pregnant but my ob didn't know anything of it and we didn't try.

If someone is pregnant and has insomnia or a lot of pain - do you think the occasional use of cannabis for this, less than weekly, would be a better alternative than synthetic OTC medications such as Tylenol? It just seems that the natural approach would be slightly better long term? I’m currently pregnant and have thought about it, but too scared to do either option so just suffering when it gets bad… any answer would not actually change that for me personally, my anxiety is high enough lol, I’m just curious on other perspectives because it is something I do wonder about

I was told that Tylenol is quite well studied in pregnancy and is very safe. I took it occasionally for joint pain along with things like PT and heat and swimming and so on. It's Ibuprofen (Motrin/Advil) that you are supposed to avoid because it can cause kidney damage in the wee one.

There are FDA tested and approved medications for pregnant patients. Some plants and herbal supplements can be very harmful during embryonic development including mint, sage and other common herbs.

For me personally, I’ve used cannabis the entirety of my first semester. I was also very afraid of the effects of it on my baby, however I was is in soooo much pain and violently nauseous to the point I couldn’t keep anything down(not even water) and lost almost 30 pounds!! I couldn’t stand it any longer and was more worried about popping a pill every day than ingesting dry herbs. Besides, the pills wouldn’t stop me from vomiting anyway. I decided to, after some research(the little that was out there), dose around one puff of 0.3 grams medical-grade cannabis with a dry herb vaporizer at least once a day or once every other day. I was able to eat, sleep and grow my baby without any issues. As soon as I could eat and keep food down without the use of cannabis, I stopped using it altogether and had a blessed pregnancy. My little girl was born at 39 weeks and weighed a hefty 8lbs and 11oz. She was born with her eyes open, lifted her head up off my chest and breastfed for a full hour. She’s one month old now, weighing at 10lbs 13oz and she’s hitting all her milestones, even a few weeks ahead developmentally. I’m not seeing any adverse effects from my usage, then again there are definitely lots of other factors as well; my dosage, duration of usage, being young and relatively healthy, taking prenatal vitamins every single day, eating heartily and well, plus other factors that may be biological. That’s all just my personal experience anyway and it’s totally okay and worth it to be skeptical and make choices that take in regard the safety of your growing bundle of joy! As daunting and uncomfortable as it is, pregnancy is only temporary and you’ll soon be holding your precious baby in your arms-it will all be worth it. May you have a happy, healthy and safe pregnancy and delivery mama!

In considering herbal medicine, I have been told that any plant that actually DOES anything in your body should be treated with as much caution as a pill or medication. There are plenty of plants that are toxic or unsafe in pregnancy - you're better off going by the data not whether the substance is "natural" or not, especially because many medications are just lab-made versions of plant chemicals anyway.

Interesting topics and video. I have to say, I'm no expert in medical literature, however I do wonder if these studies have the same issues as previous studies looking at the impacts of breastfeeding, in that they weren't controlling for enough variables. Have there been any sibling studies on this, comparing the outcomes for siblings who were/were not exposed to marijuana in utero? I feel such studies might have a better chance of controlling for those variables.

I'm have been in Michigan for around 5 years and because its legal here I started doing it eeeevery day. I turned into a pot head. But, when it came time to get pregnant I stopped smoking. I wasnt even craving it while pregnant. But now that Im weaning I have a huge urge to get high. Like, Im so tired of pumping! but Im scared because I feed my baby. I thought of using this milk as bath and just use the freezer stash if I do smoke. Looking forward to your breastmilk video. I really need answers! Great video!

I’m not proud of this…but I pumped and gave my baby my breast milk her first year of life. I smoked everyday…again I’m not proud. She is delayed in her speech, but overall she is SUPER smart and happy. Not saying you should, but you are not alone.

Cannot believe people have to be explained that you should not use drugs, nicotine while pregnant. I guess it’s for people from the US
