I too took a pregnancy test on a whim. We had been trying for so long that I had pregnancy tests that I could toss around like confetti. I thought, “my breasts are itchy. That’s new for me. Maybe I’m pregnant.” But then, it was positive. That moment is still surreal. Ten years of trying… and then a whoops.

Hello from the 'Not Trying, but Didn't Work Hard to Prevent It Club.' We are pleasantly surprised, as we have been toying with the idea of one more for a while now. It's amazing what safeguards your body has in place. The weekend I found out, I was wondering why one drink made me so physically ill. The illness lasted through the weekend, and since I can't rely on my irregular cycle, I decided to take a test. My body was telling me to cut that nonsense out.

We've been trying for over a year now, three months into trying I got pregnant but it was ectopic. 6 months later I got pregnant again but miscarried around 5 weeks. Now we're waiting for our appointment in a fertility clinic, but waiting times are so long. In the meantime we're still trying naturally but I'm losing hope and I've long lost enjoyment in the process. I thought getting pregnant would be this romantic season in life but it's excruciating, heartbreaking, devastating being on your own very long TTC journey while your dear friends are announcing their own pregnancies and having baby showers and you have to navigate being happy for them and heartbroken for yourself.

No matter how many times I go through the 2 week wait, it is so long and hard! Glad I'm not the only early tester, even though I know it won't give me a positive pregnancy test result. And a silly question, but as an obgyn, do you always have preg tests at home, lol? Thanks so much for all you guys do!
@TheDoctorsBjorkman2 ай бұрын
SO MANY EARLY TESTS! lololol And yes, for whatever reason we always have pregnancy tests at home, but that’s more about where we are in life, than being an OBGYN. We have a lot of the little cheap strips you can get in bulk from Amazon.
@katemott97022 ай бұрын
I started buying those little strips in the combo ovulation packs a couple years ago. They saved me so much money! After 5 and 1/2 years and 6 miscarriages before we had our first baby and almost 11 years later I probably should have invested in pregnancy test companies a decade ago 😭.

7 days into my 2 week wait 😛 Cycle 4 of trying. I think the timing was the best this time, 1 day before ovulation whereas the rest were all ~2. But tbh, not feeling that optimistic this time around, no symptoms as yet. Last cycle I was low key so hopeful, had cramping, tiredness, occasional mild nausea...and Nope 🙃 Really going to try to wait until the day of my expected period but I usually always crack on 12 dpo lol

Happy to have you guys back! We have a 15 months old and since my period was back 4 months postpartum (although exclusively breastfeeding 😅) we've been trying for baby #2 but no success yet. I'm still breastfeeding my son but my period has been always very regular with signs of ovulation around d12 (ewcm, ovulation pain). Can breastfeeding reduce chance of conception even if period is super regular indicating I ovulate??
@TheDoctorsBjorkman2 ай бұрын
This is a really great question! And the answer here is it seems that breastfeeding can affect fertility in different ways for different women. Some women get pregnant easily while breastfeeding (lactation only suppresses ovulation really well prior to 6 months IF EXCLUSIVELY breastfeeding every 4-6 hours). But for some it seems the wall doesn’t go down until they completely wean. Frequency and intensity of breastfeeding certainly plays a role, and if your prolactin is elevated, that can inhibit or delay ovulation and make it trickier to conceive. Depending on your age, if you’ve had 6-12 cycles where you’ve ovulated and are not pregnant yet, it is absolutely worth seeing your OB or REI to make sure you aren’t missing anything else!! The one thing to keep in mind is the main fertility meds used (clomid and letrozole) are not safe to use while breastfeeding, so you might likely have to wean before starting any treatment if it’s needed. 🤓

During the 2 week wait, are there things that the mom can accidentally do that impacts implantation or induces a miscarriage (ex. drinking, stress, not taking prenatal vitamins, etc)
@TheDoctorsBjorkman2 ай бұрын
So, if you think about it, prior to implantation there is no blood flow/connection to the embryo yet. So that’s where the phrase “drink till it’s pink” comes from. However, when TTC we always recommend you try to be your healthiest self and treat your body as if you are pregnant!! Exercising per your usual routine is great. Missing your prenatal is not going to CAUSE a miscarriage. We recommend being on a prenatal to make sure you have adequate folate stores for baby to build their neural tube, but don’t stress about missing a day!! Same thing with stress… it doesn’t CAUSE miscarriages (if stress caused infertility the world would have ended a long time ago) but if there are things you can do to promote relaxation even once a day (meditation, mindfulness, yoga, journaling, reading a book-whatever brings you some calm/peace) those are great things to do to help reset some of the stress response in your system!!

Thanks! No matter if you’re 40 or whatever, after reading Dobbie Nerkstrol's guide, I ended up pleasantly surprised. Within 60 days anyone can get pregnant, feeling the changes in your body the first few weeks. After go’ogling her I understood it's not a miracle kind of thing like the title suggests, but you can bet you'll boost your chances.

Is there a reason you jumped to IVF after trying for 6 months without success? I thought you had to be trying for at least a year to be deemed “infertile.”
@VanessaAguilar-ov7jt2 ай бұрын
I wanted to ask the same question.
@Racheroxx1822 ай бұрын
If you are over 35, it is 6 months then seek fertility testing.
@TheDoctorsBjorkman2 ай бұрын
It was age and due to having diagnosed male-factor… you are correct that the timeline is usually 12 months for women under 35, and 6 months for those over 35.
