Obama thanks Biden - but no immediate endorsement of who's next

Barack Obama has praised Joe Biden but has not yet endorsed Kamala Harris to lead the Democratic Party.
He called Mr Biden one of "America's most consequential presidents" as well as being a "dear friend and partner" to him.

President Biden's decision to step down is a wise one. Continuing to burden him with the responsibilities of the presidency at his age would be tantamount to elder abuse. There is some concern about whether he fully comprehends his decision to drop out.
