In light of the fact that the Prius has regen braking, It's likely that hard deceleration means applying the brakes hard too. That will rapidly charge the traction battery again.

Man this is a great video, thank you! I'm going to look at a 2007 prius with 360k miles on it, I am going to run this app to see if the battery is good before I buy, this video is tremendously helpful. Curious how the battery held up at 70% for you? Have you replaced it yet? Thank you for the video!

Thats awesome, I'm glad that this video was helpful! I wish I knew about this when I went and bought my prius, it definitely would have come in handy with negotiating a final price. As for my prius, at 70% its doing just fine! I average about 45 to 50 MPG. I run the test about every few weeks and its at the same 70%. Once I start to notice some major drops in MPG, I'll then consider swapping the battery out. Hope this helps, and best of luck!

@@AdonisArias We did the math and the maintenance on the Prius was less than the maintenance on the Camry (96 with a 5 speed) money-wise. Prius repairs are definitely more expensive all at once though so I recommend anybody owning a Toyota hybrid to have a bit more setback for vehicle repairs. The Prius did eventually fail at 550,000 mi due to a high torque load torque module failing that was deep in the synergy drive. Edit-gramer fix.

@@AdonisArias revving up my engine at the same time as putting on the break seems like it would hurt the car. and trying to find that sweet spot in the green zone sounds challenging. and not being able to interpret the results... and what to do if a battery block is bad? lots of questions and concerns.
@AdonisArias Жыл бұрын
@@mmedeuxchevaux based on the little bit that I know, this won’t do any damage to the hybrid system or engine. This is simply done to fully charge the hybrid battery(which takes a 2-3 minutes or less), and then draining it slowly using the different components that drain down the battery. And if the battery block is completely dead, that would mean it would be time to replace the entire hybrid battery. A company called green bean specializes in the latter. I’ve never heard of someone swapping out just one block, I’m sure it’s possible though. One of my blocks isn’t looking too good(no completely dead yet), so I might be having to swap out the hybrid battery soon. I will definitely post a video on it when it happens. I fully understand where you’re coming from though, I honestly just feel like this is a great way to get more info on the status of the hybrid battery, plain and simple. If you don’t feel up to it, you can always take it to Toyota or a local mechanic and see if they can do an extensive diagnostic, and hopefully they won’t charge you an arm and a leg Hope this helps
