My late GSD, Saber was a good dog. We currently have a Jack Russell terrorist, but she is 16. So we are considering our next dog. Enjoyed having a small dog with large personality. But need more protection in the coming years. So maybe an Aussie Cattle dog, but then again...a GSD would be great.

absolutely beautiful work. dog makes great eye contact. and the prance of the front feet is awesome. my dog is trained to heel. but to be honest I see no use in constant eye contact for a working dog. but looks really good in trials. my dog is a master in tracking and has picked up scents over 20 hours old with multiple items!

I spent the last 2 years training my shepherd to heel like this, went to her first competition....she's weirded out by the crowd of people clapping. Thanks covid. We still did well but lost her attention a few moments on the heel.

+AncientArcanine well nit all of them are like that, this just goes for the German show line. Plus there is nothing wrong about that curving back. It doesn't hurt the dog, the dog is healthy that curve in tjis type in the breed doesn't affect the dog on anything until it goes to extremes.

Over breeding causes them to have hunched backs and that's where they get there name hunched back German Shepherd. I work at a place that has 14 German Shepherd and 14 German Shepherd puppies and they all are straight back German Shepherd

Farw Jar his back is extremely sloped. Its okay for a showline. I've seen much worse. However there are two sub sections to this breed. Showline and Workingline. A working line is a well bred dog usually used in military and police work. The showline is seen here purposly used to look this way with a sloped back. Its to please visual standards rather than the health of the dog.

Do not buy a GSD Show dog type, they are not right i went for the Show dog type thanks to the kennel club breed standards and her back end is bad shes had issues since a pup, my old working GSD type had no issues till he was 9 when he had arthritis.

Any GSD which is happy and with a trusted owner will normally have this 'gait' It simply demonstrates that the dog is enjoying himself(Pride in his stride ) pleasing his trainer.

The dog's rear end is so extremely angulated now that it makes the front legs pop out more. Look at pictures of WWII German Shepherds. They look nothing like this. For a parallel in the horse world see "big lick walking horse."

I think it may be a show dog thing actually. I've seen a lot of show dogs do this little trot. They're probably trained to do it. But I'm not sure, that's just my opinion.

There are the super cool people who say "Great job, well done, fantastic work" then there are a people who say "My dog can do better...meh...meh...blah...blah...lies....lies" If so, how come no ones heard of you? And they say "What's the point of this?....blah....blah....i'm dumb....blahhhh" its a hobble, its fun, its exercise, it good because it teaches you dog tricks and respect, its good for you health and keeps you determined like if your dog struggles with say send away you keep pushing forward to get that right so it keeps your mind active and teaches you not to give up.
