Having not seen anything new for a while, I came back to watch videos I've seen before because they're so good! I own an OB-12 and know it takes a little work to get the best out of it - it is such an underrated synth. Once you've understood the keyboard, it becomes very powerful. Your adept skill in synthesis is hugely inspirational and the strange little video clips you intersperse within your demos I think are utterly brilliant. Yes, more demos please!

I love this thing, who cares if it's the bastard child of Oberheim. Sounds amazing, had the pleasure of playing a couple, and just bought one on eBay!

OMG this thing sounds better than any synth I have messed with so far- I scored one off EBAY!! I love this Italian outcast, it is special. I think even Tom himself would admit this thing is pretty cool, even if it not his own.

the most underrated synth ever. i ve just bought one sounds amazing ; pure digital glory. ( i own an obxa and i am proud to have it next to the obxa... legendary oberheim sound with beautiful digital grainy sounds . Tom didn t design it but Bob didnt design the memorymoog and nobody cares . pick up one before expensove. INCREDIBLE graphic interface

i have to say that this one of your sickest synths...really love this vintage synth...just the appearance is already hardcore :D and the sounds are so amazing

the oscillators sound like plastic, kind of the oscillators in the aegis sonix synth section on the amiga 500. but the real deal on this synth are the intense modulation possiblities, the great panel, great display and the fantastic, very oldschool ems-early 70s sounding filter! I love my ob12

@Xeronicus I completely understand how you feel. It took me a month and a half of research before I could decide. I was in the same boat as well. However, if you want to go by Jexus, the Ion is the only synth on his site I've found thus far with a perfect rating. Also, I got mine for 400 from guitar center and I haven't seen an Oberheim for less than 750 yet (Oberheim also seems like it's a bit more complicated for a first synth) The Ion is freakin' fantastic by the way!

It's not meant to replace the real thing. If you were to put real analog components in the OB-12, it would sound great, but would be too expensive. It has TWO multimode filters, 12 voices, Noise and Ring mod, and an effects section that you just aren't going to find in very many analogs. This machine, alongside machines like the Waldorf Q and Access Virus TI, are examples of why analog is NOT better for everything. (And their filters don't clip. I've only encountered that problem on the JP-8k)

@IcarusTuga7 A 'virtual analog' synth is a digital synth. It's a digital emulation of analog sounds/circuitry. The only circuits you could be hearing is a badly performing digital to audio converter (I'm not saying that is necessarily the case here).
@343kaka14 жыл бұрын
@klockwerk1 It's as it's called a virtual analogue synthesizer, and as far as I know, that is a digital synth, but working as an analogue one.
@wickermanxxxx11 жыл бұрын
Another great demo, I think that the BBC Radiophonic Workshop (famous for Dr Who) have been shrunk and placed inside this blue box, to make it capable of some amazing sounds unique to this synth.
@Ciaran5514 жыл бұрын
the bit at 9:14 sounds like a Roland JV-2080, and the bit at 9:27 sounds like something out of a Prodigy song on 'The Fat Of the Land' . this Olo fella should have a go at building his own synthesizer. the ultimate accomplishment

I think You do a heck of a job creaming out the drops in the syths You are testing. Good job. Though I think that You could have made a bit more with the DX7. Like sweping the algorithms manually. This is one of the more exotic-weird- creative synths for some project work that I am looking into. Could I please ask for your help on this synth and all of the work you have done here? How is the distortion and bugs... did you find a firmware from the last known to many other owners? Thanks in advance....Regards...L333

for the last time this synth has a tendancy to clip and become "glitchy" according to synth review sites user groups etc- im not talking about all VA,s which for the most part still do not have the sonic range of true analog- i use both but analog is my first choice even if its not easy and convienent- its a nice looking synth but i remember when these were on clearance for 550$- so they could make a true analog which is coming back stronger then ever if they wanted to at a reasonable price

These synths totally failed when they came out, I remember GC blowing them out for less than $400 in the end and no one could be bothered. My foot is still sore from kicking myself.
@KennethDonnellyStargazer216 жыл бұрын
Right--I remember that, which is why they sold me one for $400 or $500. I think. Amazing and monolithic synth
@salvadory110313 жыл бұрын
now if only they would do the same synth all analog and lose the blue control panel - imagine this as a classic dave smith styled oberheim in black with wood ends- great programming but this synth has issues with resonance and digital clipping as its range gets distorted fairly easily- a problem of all va synths
@Droidbot_electro12 жыл бұрын
