What I really love about the production aspect of this video is how it was done on VHS tape. The edits are funny but really it's that awful quality of overly-recorded VHS tapes that makes it awesome. It really reminds me of 80s sci-fi movies recorded off the TV and played back too many times. It's almost like a retro audio effect. Great video.

The incredible thing about the old Juno synths is how big they can sound even though they only have one fairly simple oscillator per note. Thanks to the easy panel layout, they are easy to program. Even though Roland made a lot of them, they are still selling for as much or more now as what they cost new 25 to 30 years ago. Thanks for the nice demo.

Got one of these last week. Just soldered in a new battery holder and re-loaded the factory patches. Sounds amazing. I lived it's life in case in a climate controlled room so it is as nice as the day it was new. No voice chip or other issues. Great vid!

@subby33 That can be fixed. Two ways of doing it. Either buy the new chips and install. Or you can revive the old chips by removing the black conformal coating which becomes conductive over a long time. When removed many of these chips come back into service. Not guaranteed though.

forget the 6, get a 60 - same great sound without the hassle of dialing in a sound every time you want to move. I had a 6 for a while, drove me mad if you did more than the generic bass/strings. Now I have a 60 and love it much more because it encourages me to program. All 6 owners wish they had patch memory they just deny it.

Juno 60! all the way. Filter is MUCH nicer, it has an arpeggiator, it has HARDWARE envelopes, you can easily MIDI it with a converter or mod, it also has PWM via the envelopes with the 106 lacks. OH and it is rock solid, it won't die like the 106's voice chips. The only downside is it costs more, but then you get what you pay for in this life!

I know nothing about music but I bought this and now, I wonder, how can I get lessons without dragging this vintage around? My daughter is in sixth grade and it doesn't teach guitar--which I just bought at the same yard sale I bought this from--does band teach keyboard or strictly piano? what are going rates in Midwest for lessons? I also see something like Midi and I need an amp? I had so much trouble just locating a power chord in person. Found one in GR for $20. Finally got to hear it! and it was awesome. I have to buy an amp for her electric guitar and her AKAI beat box. the guy said i needed an amp for both that could provide the ability for...I don't remember something like it could be restricted sound if not at same level as the stuff being put in. Honestly, is it worth extra to clean it professionally and to buy all the extra doo-dads? why is this so pricey? do people like the 80's sound? or is it a specialty fad? I know because of my age, when the keyboard specialist started to play my oldies, that I was excited...but why would kids today be excited about oldies? where do i look for lessons...Thanks.
@psdurkin239 жыл бұрын
+mrshammerhankus You have a lot of learning to do :) Lots of people like the sound, yes. I think that your concerns are valid, but honestly this may not be the best entry point/instrument for children who are just beginning to play. Start them out on piano. When they are older if they are interested in synthesis, they will LOVE to be able to play on one of these. These are extremely pricey you are right...going for well over $1000USD....why? ...because they are simply worth that much. As you said these are VINTAGE machines....meaning what machines are being produced today are nothing like what you have here.....in summation this is a costly and complicated instrument...yet worth all the trouble. Maybe "easier" for you to tackle now and your children could start on a regular keyboard and see fi they like it. Message me if you are interested in selling the Juno!! :) Good luck
@psdurkin239 жыл бұрын
+mrshammerhankus In terms of lessons, I would go to a local music store in your area. For lessons from someone with advanced knowledge of synthesis, that will be more complicated, and may require a specialized teacher who fully know the ins and outs of the machine. Again, maybe easier to start young children on a different machine/instrument
@misunflowerstyle9069 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Durkin How much should I expect for professional cleaning? the manager at a keyboard/piano specialty shop recommended a specific person like three or four hours away because it is vintage. He said it is in impressive shape and should value at $1200 in MI. I can't imagine what shipping this huge elephant would cost. I priced the AKAI and that alone was $14!
@misunflowerstyle9069 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Durkin I forgot to ask, does the Juno need an amp? When I saw it demonstrated, it was connected to one. The nearest music stores are an hour away. I gave my little girl the guitar. The Juno is not intended for her. She has a little Casio to play with. I am not taking it outside again. I broke off a lever last time.
@chancemeeting28498 жыл бұрын
+mrshammerhankus If you still have it, please just sell the Juno to someone who knows what it is and how to use it. There are plenty of cheaper instruments for kids that don't require "extra too-dads." This is a significant and fairly valuable vintage synthesizer, not a keyboard to learn on...
totally awsome as usual! What sequencer are you using for the clips sequenced by midi? Keep on rockin

@snapplefacts Best option is to get a Juno 6 with midi like mine ;) Funny thing is I sold the synth 20 yrs ago, always regretted it and actually bought it back earlier this yr from the same person at the same price, virtually untouched! Never owned a 106 but the Juno 6 sounds better than this demo, another option for you might be the Alpha juno, it has midi and sounds close to this but no knobs.

I have a Juno 106 that I'd like to get rid of. It's in good condition. The only issue is that the volume and portamento knobs need to be cleaned because they're a little dusty. A crackling sound can be heard when the knobs are being tweaked. Would you know of any product I can clean them with, or is it something that a repair person would have to look at?

ya, I tried it on mine... it doesn't allow you to press both chorus buttons at once. Tried it numerous times.

@snapplefacts. how about get the juno6. that has no memory, which means no battery, which means no battery replacement problem. juno6 is the same as your juno60 but easier to maintain in the long term. and actually cheaper in cost. who needs memory anyway if you are good at programming. imho, you should get a juno6 and keep your juno60 for spare parts in case something ever happens to the juno6 ;)
