My friend had one when I was in high school around 2001-2002 and I thought this was the greatest sounding synth. It still sounds great now.
@tionik0615 жыл бұрын
the synth skills are incredible but the video editing is just genius. man.
@nullfusion2 жыл бұрын
astonishing how one can express a very unique style just by editing synth patches

3:55 - Sound is so epic that I doubt any movie made in the 70s or 80s could contain it without the universe imploding.

Among many other things, 7:12 and 10:16 are what convinced me to buy an Ion 5 years ago. I'm still glad I did.
@Mannex1716 жыл бұрын
The trick to getting that sound is a subtle LFO that wavers the pitch a little. Slap that on top of anything, and instant BoC. What Boards really does is finishes a track, and then patches it through an old Hi-Fi tape that's old and warped. When it comes out the other end it sounds all warm and lo-fi.

I absolutely love the video all together. The music is amazing and I fucking love the picture and the video editing is fucking superb. I love the style

Excellent. As an Ion owner, I'm not sure if this video is inspiring or depressing...

Why depressing?

@@jaycee30865 Because you're never going to play the Synth as well as Jexus.

You have definitely mastered this machine, but I feel like your demonstration shows the limits of the device more than any musical utility of the synth. Either way extreme talent!
@Jexus2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. This was recorded in a time when every video out there was demonstrating the musical utility, so I chose to show the limits instead.
@vitamindminormusicalwander66302 жыл бұрын
@@Jexus I didn’t mean to phrase that so clumsily. Now I’m subscribed and watching your other videos 🙂. I truly appreciate the scope of sound you display in a few minutes on all these different instruments. Many of the demos on KZbin don’t show the stark differences that I’m seeing going down your list . Cheers!

4:00 is just beautiful. I could see this being part of a radiohead song. Bring in like a tight odd meter breakbeat and have this synth part side chained to the kick. It would sound badass!

I never heard a decent demo of the ION, but i must say, I like the sound of it very much, crystal clear and warm :) This is excellent stuff for dutch house styles, like Hardcore and Hardstyle.. Also DnB I think.. Good job man!

Definately some of the best synth demo vids on youtube. I hate it, cause I jump between wanting to spend money on Modular and then old VA's that make crazed patches like this and the Z1. Too many synths, too little time! :D For some reason I feel like this one in particular is going to be worth some serious doh in the future... There is one sitting on ebay just now and has been there for some time... Hmmmmmmmmmmm
@rars0n7 жыл бұрын
In my humble opinion, synths like the Ion are too good to pass up, unless you're Mr. Modular. I mean, modular is great and all, but I think the vast majority of people are better served with a good synth engine with a great UI. I can't say that the Ion is that, but I can say that it can produce some amazing sounds (as evidenced here) and the Ion, at least compared to the Micron, seems to have a very usable interface. I think you're absolutely right. A year after you've posted and prices are already going higher than they were before. These will be worth a lot in the future, even the Microns (because they're basically Ions with less knobs and keys). And even a Micron can be used with an editor to easily create amazing sounds.
@ReneeNme5 жыл бұрын
@Adam " And even a Micron can be used with an editor to easily create amazing sounds ". So true. To this very day I still see too many people trying to disparage the Alesis Micron with this comment " The Micron is a great machine, but the menu diving is too much of a pain ". Um, there are hardware controllers out there nowadays such as the hardware Stereoping editor that is directly compatible with the Micron as well as many software editors that virtually eliminate that " pain ".

Ion/Micron engine is awesome when you're high or tripping but when I'm sober I just like a nice techno-ish resonant low pass filter... it's got a ton of different filters but none of them have that "booming bass" quality to it... having said that i still like my micron as much as my nord rack, maybe ill get a microkorg some day just for its sound

If you own both an Ion and a Micron (or Miniak) presumably its possible to program the smaller machines using the Ion via MIDI? Can anyone confirm this who has actually tried it?

this thing has some NICE sounds. now, is it an analog synth, or a digital synth mimicking an analog synth? because I've heard both, and i'm not sure what to believe. it sound like it's worth all $500 they go for!!
@Xakutor15 жыл бұрын
I have OS 1.06 but i figured out how to remove the keyboard split. As for the self editing, yea i have heard many of the Ions suffer from this problem, luckily mine functions properly & it does not self edit "ghost edit". I have heard conflicting stories about the self editing problem. some say it's the knobs that's the problem & others say its in the OS. i don't know which is true. SO yea i would suggest updating your OS version & if that doesn't work then it must be the knobs.

Love that Hartmann Neuron vibes. Pretty good for a 400$ synth, isn't it? But Ion begs really, really hard for an external delay FX to shine instead of embedded 80me nonsense. Without decent delay unit, it sounds too "vintage" for my opinion.
