You are responsible for your health, how you look and how you feel. Not TV commercials, not food companies or any other type of media influence. America is eating itself to death and we are told to accept it because pointing the finger is wrong. Personally, I would rather have hurt feelings and a support system to better myself than grow up obese with health problems and a destroyed body that will never recover. Let's stand together and fight for what it really means to help people and stop worrying about what is "politically correct" to say to someone. If you want to make a change, come join a community that cares. www.MuscularStrength.com

This was a great video! I grew up over-eating and wasn't told to stop or no, that combined with ignorance of healthy eating equalled a 260lb 18 yo girl who didn't always feel bad about herself but thought I was always just bigger than everyone and that's just how it was, being encouraged to own my size and how I carried myself. It took 3 years for something to click in my head, as I got older my body just didn't feel the same and I knew I needed to get healthier or I could easily already be halfway thru the years I get to live at this rate. Now Im down 100lbs and feel so much better! But you're absolutely right so much could have been avoided if I was taught at a younger age or even in school! Now I have a passion for helping people get healthier. It not only improves you physically (I now have actual curves...not rolls of curves) but the improvment on your mental health and attitude is incredible. I now don't focus on what I can't do because of my size, I don't feel like I'm going to break something if I sit on it. No matter how much you "accept" your size as an obese or morbidly obese person...those thoughts and insecurities will ALWAYS be in the back of your head. Even after losing weight I still have those moments.

Preach it! I was literally having the same conversation with a few of my friends and you took the words right out of my mouth. People nowadays are so freaking sensitive to every single little thing, and when someone says a bold statement with some of truth to it, people immediately get offended. Like you said, accept people for who they are, but you aren't doing them any good by supporting their unhealthy habits. Great video man.

Scott. I am 22 years old and I grew up with a diet of McDonald's, tacos, soda,and no exercise at all. I try not to spend most of my time dwelling on the past, but what angers me so much is that the majority of these decisions were not my own. I get into arguments with my parents on a constant basis over this topic. What I want them to understand is that they really did not take care of me. I love them, they took care of me, they housed me and I am grateful for many things, but it's so hard to see beyond the results of me being obese, anti social, etc. It wasn't until after my first yearincollege when my balls dropped and I started to take care of myself. I started working out, eating healthier, and just living a bit more. I've lost 60 lbs. I am at 210 at the moment, but still treking through. Though I am not at my goal yet, I've never felt so confident and self assured in my life. My only regret is that I wasted so much time doing nothing. Being obese is the worst way to waste time.

The only thing I'm tired of is people video game shaming. I video game all the time. I also work out all the time and I am very active throughout my days. All I'm saying is video games ARE NOT the problem.
@erikbentley90059 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree. I am 16 (turning 17 in two days actually) and don't get me wrong, I'm actually inside most of the time (gyms are roofed after all) and I LOVE playing video games. It's my favorite hobby next to working out and playing guitar. I game for many, many hours a week but I still make time to work out. Even if my day is cramped with homework, I still make time to go to the gym and stay healthy. Long story short, video games are not the problem at all, but rather the excuses people make to themselves that prohibit them from taking the initiative to work out and eat better.

I feel the exact same way as you, Scott! Most of my friends do not have the same mindset as me and I feel alone at times in thinking this way. However, I feel that nutrition and fitness is so important. It frustrates me that a majority of my friends always ask me for fitness advice yet none are as dedicated as me, and I applaud you for speaking up about this topic. I have yet to find a future husband partially because of this issue. Many of the guys I've dated are not as health and fitness conscious as me and I refuse to be involved with a guy who isn't. It's not because I'm not attracted to heavier men. It's simply the fact that I cannot stand to be around someone who sits on his butt all day and eats take out and fast food. I'm an active person and I want to be outside and live life. My kids will be the exact same way. I will have guidelines about how much TV they watch and what they eat because I want them to be healthy and enjoy their lives and not have health problems.

ScottHermanFitness "Our forefathers would go nuts if they saw how much of a big coward our country has turned into" this is so true as well. Every nation has a majoritized belief system. Somehow ours is being stripped away and replaced by a politically correct system that denies everyone the right to there beliefs and traditions in order to keep others from being offended...... It's bullshit. Our country has turned into a giant vagina, where a big dick once hung (or hanged, idk which is proper in this analogy lol). when my older brother and I were younger, if I wanted a cookie or whatever I'd have to ask for it and we'd be limited to two or three a day maximum.we would have to ask to watch TV or use the computer. Sugary cereals like frosties and coco pops were only for weekends, we only ever had sugar free drinks (this was mostly because my mum is type 1 diabetic). we always went outside to play because we didn't have computer games. We played sports and stuff at school, we didn't have "nothing to do" just because our friends didn't reply to our facebook message because we didn't have facebook. we would go to our friends houses and ask them if they wanted to come out. I'm only 18 and I've noticed an obvious difference in the last few years, as my younger brother has got older, now 15, my parents have stopped giving as much of a crap about that sort of thing, now we can go grab a handful of cookies and a cake and sit in front of the TV for hours. My younger brother didn't have to follow the same rules as I did, he was allowed to eat what he wanted and sit playing xbox all day and thats why he is now overweight. It's about ATTITUDE, maybe my parents got lazy on the third child, I don't know. luckily my brother is becoming interested in fitness so he's getting better, but I know for sure that when I have kids I'm gonna have a few rules relating to food and activities that are going to be stuck to for as long as they live in my house. Brave topic to talk about Scott, but necessary for a lot of people, thanks :)

Hey Scott, I've seen a lot of your videos to study lifting form and technique, but the end of this one has really hit me. I hit 245lbs last year and nobody told me anything. Now that I'm below 200 everyone is telling me how good I'm looking. I think we are all personally responsible for our own health and weight. If you wait for somebody else to tell you to lose weight, you may end up waiting forever.

MODERATION. I feel like people today don't know that word. Everything can be bad if you abuse it there's nothing wrong with a McDonald's once a week for your kids on a set day as a treat. My mums friend fed her kids KFC everyday!! After school because she couldn't be bothered to cook. My mum told her what she's doing is bad an unhealthy... That was the last time they spoke LOL

You said you used to be a quiet kid, but you seem pretty outgoing and vocal now, did you naturally change with age or have you made a conscious effort to be less quiet?

Jake H probably became more vocal when he started lifting. all the confidence probably gave him the courage to say the things that were on his mind--something that he didn't have growing up.

+Jake H He still seems on the reserved side(not in a neg. way), to me, he just overcomes his fears, & does what he's committed/has to do, & he doesn't have an ounce of arrogance. He has great qualities. A true winner(not the way society today, defines it), in my book. He's real...no phoniness, as so many others are on social media, & life, in general! I honor him. imho (p.s. Scott, Sorry to talk about you in the third person, & answering a question directed to you, for you...seems weird, & rude. ha...Only you can authentically answer that question, Scott, but was just giving my point of view/observation.)

I agree with you. Moderation is key. I've always been underweight and I never seemed to gain weight until I enlisted in the military this year. I never saw anything wrong with my body and no one ever told me anything, but once I started working out to prepare myself for the military and started to notice changes I began to look at myself differently. Whereas I used to think everything was fine I look back at pictures of myself now and see my ribs sticking out, my eyes sunken in, etc. it works for both ends of the spectrum. Keeping your kids active and teaching them proper nutrition is good for them long term whether they are overweight or underweight like I was. I'm 6'3" and at the beginning of this year I was 140lbs and now I'm close to 185. Proper nutrition and working out using Scott's videos have made a huge difference in my life. Thanks for the help Scott and hopefully this video gets through to others!

***** right on man and I think that the opposite side "being too skinny" especially for males gets overlooked for sure. For example, when I was younger and trying to gain muscle I would get SO ANGRY if someone said I was skinny whereas most people would LOVE to be called skinny. It's all relative to your goals. Pumped you joined the military! My best friend was a Marine, but we lost him in Iraq. :( Please be safe bro!

This video is so on point. My boyfriend and I often have discussions about how we would raise kids and this has a lot to do with it. Even today during my run at Jones Beach, I saw more obese children than healthy children struggling to walk on the sand… and walking toward the snack bar no less. It's tragic.

You really hit the nail on the head Scott, I'm 21 and I have a 9 year old brother, I remember as a kid that sure, you had a few chubby kids at school but for the most part kids were slim and healthy and we spent all day playing football or riding bikes, now I see some of these kids my brother goes to school with and they are HUGE. And it's because they spend all day on their Xbox's and iPads. And it's because their parents allow them to do so. All things in moderation. And that goes for junk food and also for sitting in the house playing video games.
@ScottHermanFitness9 жыл бұрын
ManectricAvenue yeah man it's horrible. My step daughter is on a dance team and I go to her recitals and I can't believe how overweight some of these girls are. I mean, dancing is TOUGH and you need to be in shape to be on a competitive team and I just can't figure out why so many are overweight when they train 2 - 3 hours a day for 3 - 4 days a week. Also, not even coming from a point of being overweight is bad.. If I was on a competitive dance team and my teammate were 20 to 30 pounds overweight I would feel like they do not take the sport seriously and were holding back the team. It just goes to show that it all comes down to what is being taught at home. No amount of physical activity will combat eating junk all day and night. Period.

Scott, childhood obesity is a touchy subject! When I was a kid I was really really fat and I for one know it sucked more than anything. I won't go in detail about it but life didn't start until I found my school gym at 14 and just said no to the foods that will make me fat and decided I had to do it alone because my family were nowhere near interested in it. It was rough. Obesity in kids can be based on many factors and a lot of people look to hard when in reality they're the problem. All I can say is I'm sick of people pointing fingers at everything but themselves. And I'm sick of some parents letting their kids live like that. You won't fix obesity until you take responsibility for your health. Anywho, I'm glad you spoke about this and I hope this video opens some people eyes. Thank you! P.s. I see Goku doing a low key cameo!!

Thank you for this. I was 200 pounds 4 months ago and being that weight made me really unhappy. I was going to High School the next year and I decided to start doing things and eating less. This summer I have lost 30 pounds and I recently bought a bike so hopefully I can get out more. My mom always called it "Baby Fat", I knew it was wrong in the back of my mind, but still I continued eating SO MUCH. I only started thinking about my weight when My dad had talks with me, my brother started getting me out, and my friends made casual fat jokes at me, sure it hurt, but I think it really helped with my weight loss. Anyway, 20 pounds to go!

A lot of pediatricians would agree with you. Everything in moderation! I used to be really big (65 lbs overweight), but i just had to monitor the treats and prevent overeating. Nobody is forcing you to drink the soda or eat fatty and salty foods. I agree, they have no one to blame but themselves because they develop an addiction from the derived pleasure from the food. One of my favorite videos Scott keep on going!

I've been saying this for years. They need to start pushing for more nutrition classes in middle school. Kids need to be educated on the topic. If parents won't change, then maybe kids will realize how bad some things are if we show them what could happen and what to do. We need to work on the younger generation, as they are the ones that matter. Just my thoughts. Love your videos as usual!

100% agree. I'm still working my weight down at age 20, and have been extremely overweight my whole life. I don't quite hate my parents for it, because they didn't know any better, but this is an extremely big thing that I believe in. It is so far from okay for parents to use the excuse that it's how they parent to be pretty much performing child abuse. The damage that can occur from being overweight throughout a persons life is not even countable. Right on scott.

Totally agree with this. I played video games like it was my job when I was younger drinking soda and eating crappy. But I was still in sports year long playing two basketball leagues or basketball during track season. Even having video games younger than that my friends and I would still ride bikes, play ball, and swim everyday. My parents made it clear that I was playing some type of sport younger and as a teen I went out for high school basketball/track or I had to get a job. There wasn't an excuse to be lazy and now I'm glad I did that. It's time for parents to take authority and parent their kids to be healthy

+ScottHermanFitness I wanted to ask what do you think about soda these day? I know for myself I consume a lot of it growing up. Every day I drank sprite, coke, pepsi, and 7up, I realize to me it was an addiction so I gradually and ultimately stop drinking it, occasionally I'll have one once a month. Today I drink plenty of water and home made fruit juice like watermelon and papaya and cantaloupe.

seeing kids in gym class today not being able to preform basic human function is the worst thing! One huge problem is the lack of knowlege regarding parents, so many parents are clueless about health. I am in paris right now and have yet to see an obese person, one huge reason is activity. ive been walking 15000-25000 steps daily and have been eating all the unhealthy foods, having active kids in this era would be so beninficial!!
