I am in the middle of listening to this interview. I have to pause and go listen to the track “Eko Ila” again. I am so glad to finally know the man behind those terrestrial guitar tunes… wowww I can not recover from the great guitar performance. Every time I listen to the track I can feel like the guitarist is so angry and full, and he is trying let us know I am loaded I want to give you my vibe. This is my feeling before finding Mr Segun was the man behind the tune. Lastly, listening to the song tonight gave me insight to Commander brilliance on the guitar too because I can hear him playing and responding to the solo guitar as a lead guitarist. In fact you guys are a blessing to many especially lovers of great tunes

I met Mr Awe years back while conducting an interview for him on his music experiment called Afritonas….He has always been a blunt and fearless man..I think Nigerians do not like people who say it the way it is.I have not seen anywhere in this interview where this man undermined his boss..Agbaletu thank you for being professional in allowing him do more of the storytelling than interrupting him..Segun Awe’s memory of events and how they happened is really unbelievable..Finally Ekiti people don’t know how to keep somethings private when the truth seems to have been manipulated so the need to understand the harshness in his delivery..A musical genius still!!Brilliant job Agbaletu!!❤❤

Excellent interview with Segun Awe. I love the fact that he is able to give us the nitty gritty details of all the components used in making the super hits of yesteryears! In terms of his view on OBEY, the truth is that we are all humans with a fallible propensity. In short, no one is perfect even Segun himself. Things happen for a reason. We must always put events in it’s context else we loose the basis of objectivity. Well done once again ‘Agbaletu’ for bringing these super stars into our homes for FREE!🎉🎉😂

Omo, this is my best interview so far on Igbaletu. Pure Ekiti man. bluntness, stubbornness and agidi. He confirmed he pushed Cannabis and stood by it. Anything wey want happen, make e happen. Meanwhile, E kilo fomo was the cleanest Juju album done in the 1970s by any body. Segun Awe affirmed it, and time has validated that as well. The guitar works are insane. For Baba Commander, I'm though a KSA fan, but I respect baba alot, and I know he was a deciding figure in Juju music. But similar to every boss, he could have his mistakes as well. KSA also made his own mistakes to some of his band boys. It is well.

Good interview! What we should realize about interaction between 2 people is that 2 of them will have their perspectives about issues even right there at the time of its occurrence. Each would be convinced that his position is the right one. It takes time and events for people to realize their errors. Actions and positions taken earlier would not have been made based on wickedness but rather on those conviction. Learning from experiences would only make us better in our relationships. I hope Uncle Segun Awe / Baba Commader now know where each made mistakes and make the necessary amendments. I also hope Mr Awe doesn't treat his band members they way he claims to have been treated. Peace and love all the way! We appreciate your input to music in Nigeria. God bless Mr Awe, Baba Commader and Agbaletu.

Mr. Segun Awe should rest. He has really exhausted all avenue to express his grievances with Chief Commander. I have watched about 5 to 6 different interviews on same issue. Obey was already made many years before you joined his band, and after you left in 1979, he still went on to released many evergreen songs without you. Its obvious that you can never form a threat for him even if you form your own band. He should also stop undermining Late Monday John work. Nobody will listen to Board member album and tell me Monday only use guiter to hymn songs. Monday was a fantastic guitarist and I can bring about 10 songs in early 70's with a superb guiter work from him.

Segun Awe is rightly talented and blunt as an Ekiti man in a cause to fight or defend his rights. It is good as he made his case known to the public. He should remember that Obey organizations had come to lime-light before joining his band to contribute and gain more experience to improve more, .not only to the success of the band, but also on his own skills. One thing or other made him to leave the band. His case is well presented and understood. But as a yoruba man, it is MORALLY WRONG for him to use 'O' for any elderly person under any circumstance. It shows that he is arrogant, and thus depicts his behavior when he was with the band, and no matter how talented or perfect one could be in his profession without humbleness, its results will be insatifaction. Without any ambiguity, OBEY senior him with all things in life. If not too late AWE should learn to respect Elders even when aggressive.

With due respect, I would like to recommend a book called 48 Laws of Power to Mr Segun Ewe. There is a particular law " Never outshine your Boss. I'm not taking out the fact that this man is talented, but pride and self glorify rubbed him off so many opportunities. People like this may find it so difficult to see anything wrong about themselves. With all he said about his boss, he needs to give that man some respect and credit as Ebenezer Obey was in his 30's while managing that band with over 30 members. They were all in their younger days, so mistakes are inevitable. We need to learn to be diplomatic in our dealings , stop seeing wrong in everyone else but ourself. If becoming a star and making name in the entertainment industry is easy we should have millions of stars. Maximum respect to Ebenezer obey and Sunny Ade.

In my own opinion, he felt cheated and undervalue even up till now, he was angry with Obey because he thought Obey would have promoted him and helped more than this cos his ideas and pestering helped Obey' carrier at that time. We love Obey and the rest but they were all spiritually dangerous during their time, they dont want any other musician to be greater than them even their seniors suffered from their hands. I remember when baba won kere si number called out one of them, he claimed he taught him guitar but the legend abandoned him when he was in proplems. Nigerians can be too bias when it comes to the person they love and that is still one of our major issues till today. Honestly, I really cannot understand why all these ex-band members take pride in criticizing and bashing their former ogas on social media! Take Mr Segun Awe for example - He willingly joined Obey's band in 1973 and willingly walked away in 1979. During those six years, he travelled the world, achieved a little fame for himself and was able to purchase a BRAND NEW CAR! Yet he eloquently argues that he was shortchanged. He complains that nothing came out of the job for him! Go ask so many post-graduates today who have worked for over ten years if they can afford to pay cash out of pocket for a "tokunbo" car let alone a brand new one! Mr Awe believes he deserves a bigger cut from Obey's glory. From a man who has put in almost sixty years into the trade when many of his peers have long retired. From a man who continues to work tirelessly in his Eighties despite frail health! Please let us learn to show a little gratitude and do away with a false sense of importance and entitlement! Agbaletu, please don't allow your channel to become a platform for slanderous attacks. Most especially when the object of the attack has passed away!
@lekanbalogun186 Жыл бұрын
I love your observations about Obey and his band members, especially considering Segun Awe's comments. However, I disagree with your thought on Agbaletu's platform. As a matter of fact, this platform is extremely important to shed light on events, allow people air their grievances et c. Nobody is completely innocent, not even great Obey and KSA, nor is Awe, but, let us just take interviews like this as "setting records straight", ours is not to judge but learn. Nonetheless, something is certain and cannot be removed: these men are legends in every sense. Awe was not even 20 years when he was playing those guitar works and, his ability to remember after 50 years is amazing, unbelievable even!

Uncle Segun Awe made a serious allegation against 'Baba Commander', about an incident that happened 50 years ago, in 1.07.13 minutes of this explosive interview. He alleged that 'Baba Commander took him to see a 'spiritualist', in 1973 and he was instructed to take his leave by both the 'Spiritualist' and 'Baba Commander' after spiritual enquiry was made on his behalf, without revealing the details of the spiritual enquiry to him, till date. The host did not allow Uncle Awe to provide details about this heavy allegation but rather smartly talked Uncle Awe out of his allegation. I believe there is a need for 'Baba Commander', to clarify what transpired during the 'spiritual trip'.
