Күн бұрын

The beginning of the episode started with a recap of the prequels, ending with yoda’s line to him at the end of revenge of the sith where he tells Obi-Wan he has training for him, to teach him to commune with his old master qui-gon. So I think for sure we’ll see or hear Qui-Gon Jinn’s force ghost once again.
We start on coruscant, at the jedi temple where the younglings are being trained by a jedi master, as two 501st clones rush in to execute order 66. As she does her best to protect the younglings, she gets defeated and we see one of the younglings centred. I believe this could be a young Reva. She was a Jedi as the grand inquisitor states. We hear palpatine continuously say execute order 66 as see them running away while the temple is under attack as we saw in revenge of the sith.
Transitioning to Tatooine, we see the Inquisitors land down and interrogate a cantina for the location of a Jedi hiding there. Reva uses tactics to snuff him out
that are very heaty in the eyes of the Grand Inquisitor, we have to remember that the senate is still a thing at this time, and isn’t disbanded quite yet. So Palpatine still doesn’t has as much free reign as he does in the original trilogy with blowing up alderaan and doing whatever he pleases whenever. The Jedi gets away and the Grand Inquisitor tells Reva he’s had enough of her wreckless behaviour and her fixation on Kenobi, that he’s not hers to find. He’s Vader’s, are my thoughts. I think she hates Kenobi so much for failing Anakin, but I could be wrong.
We finally meet up with Kenobi cutting sushi in the middle of the desert, making a living for himself as a regular man. Getting back to his Eopie, which could be the same one from revenge of the sith, he feeds it and heads back home. Heading to his cave, makes himself at home when he’s visited by a Jawa named TEEKA who hands Kenobi a toy ship, a lambda t4a imperial shuttle for Luke.
When Teeka shows him a belt of the Jedi we just saw, telling Obi-Wan that a Jedi ran through the dune sea inquisitors after him and all and Obi-Wan says the Jedi are all extinct, now he knows that a jedi is here and the inquisitors are aware. This makes his job more difficult to protect Luke. He has to be on a higher alert now and keep watch of the boy more than usual.
As he goes to sleep, he has ptsd of Anakin and what happened to him. This is 10 years after the events of revenge of the sith, which means his ptsd was probably even worse in the years prior. He tries to reach out to qui-gon, and this isn’t the first time. The beginning of the episode started with a recap of the prequels, ending with yoda’s line to him at the end of revenge of the sith where he tells Obi-Wan he has training for him, to teach him to commune with his old master qui-gon. So to me, I think obi-wan hasn’t spoken to qui-gon yet. He;s trying, but he isn’t connecting himself to the force, he can’t. If he does, the empire will detect him. and Sniff him out like a dog to food.
Obi-Wan watches over Luke as he runs from Owen, much like Anakin, playful and rebellious.
Through the desert, Obi-Wan is found by Navi, the Jedi the inquisitors were after. He has a short interaction with Obi-Wan who pretends he’s not the famous Jedi Master. He finally breaks and tells the boy to forget the Jedi and let it go. To bury his lightsaber in the sand. Kenobi is a broken man. He’s hurting and he’s no longer the same hopeful man he used to be. I believe the point is to show a broken obi-wan turning into the hopeful alec guiness obi-wan we see later.
On Alderaan we meet with Leia. This is the best casting of a young Leia I’ve ever seen. I think she played the role so well. She portrays Leia’s rebellious, know it all personality while being adorable at the same time. Playing tricks on her mother and running off into the forest to explore.
Obi-Wan’s mundane life repeats itself and it seems like it’s really taken the wind from his sails. Heading back to his Eopie, Uncle Owen throws the toy he left for Luke onto the ground and tells Kenobi to leave them alone. Owen doesn’t like Obi-Wan for many reasons. One being that he blames Kenobi for the fall of Anakin and turn into Darth Vader, and the overall state of the galaxy. He also doesn’t like how Obi-Wan is always watching over Luke, he thinks it’ll eventually tip someone off and it’ll get them hurt all because of obi-wan snooping around and keeping watch.
Obi-Wan asks if Luke is ok, and owen says you don’t care if he’s ok you care if he’s showing. He means showing signs of the force. Meaning Owen thinks Kenobi only uses Luke to push him to be a Jedi like Anakin, and that didn’t turn out well.

it makes sense that he would leave though. Bail Organa clearly cannot help. No one else knows who she is. As for Yoda's command, the moment in which that occurred was a joint decision to protect the children of Anakin, and not simply Luke, so it is not outside of the main mission. And we see ObiWan reaching out to Qui Gon after a dream about Vader, followed by very significant events that are happening after years of silence in the desert ... the Force is the one driving this plotline, and it is not like Obi Wan is a stranger to following the Force down a rabbit hole when it calls.

People say book lore should be respected and used for source material, but then complain when Obi leaves Tatooine. Clearly they’ve never actually read the books because if the had, they would know that in them, Obi very much would and has left tattoine to assist other Jedi when needed, he once helped one of Anakin’s rival pupils off planet.

I thought Reva didn't probe Owen further because she sensed his emotions. He hates Jedi, she not reading minds constantly. It's like a metal detector for emotions, the mental probe is like digging up what's underneath. The cantina scene has the inquisitors pressing the bartender for information, watching reactions, a common interrogation tactic. It may seem convenient to us, but in universe Owen is an average Joe. And I think Ben trusts Owen to watch over Luke. Besides the Inquisitors got the Jedi they came there for Kenobi is Reva's target, Nari was the Inquisitors'

@@witcherjohn3440 Yeah the new trilogy is definitely inferior to the original and prequel trilogies. I've actually always been a hgue fan of the Prequels, and have defended them numerous times from OT elitists and have been insulted numerous times for it lol. The Sequels I think started off decent (aka Force Awakens), but then they fumbled it with the next two. The Mandalorian and Rogue One were excellent Star Wars media, worthy of the SW name. I actually liked Solo tbh, though I know more SW hardliners didn't. Book of Boba Fett had its ups and downs, but overall, I think it was decent. The pale inquisitor = Grand Inquistor. The problem with killing him now is that he's still alive in Rebels which takes place much later, so that would actually be a contradiction...unless he either survives or this is different inquisitor...I'm guessing probably the former.

Thank you for finally giving an intelligent and thoughtful review of this show and it’s themes. I’m so tired of all the ignorant nonsense being thrown out there as criticism simply because they know that negative reviews get more views than positive ones. This is a good show, and it’s very faithful to and respectful of the source material, much more than most other Disney-produced Star Wars content.
@Verystoic
@Verystoic 2 жыл бұрын
i dont think you understand any of the harsh criticism they're getting or why, lol. You dont need to be a genius to see the obvious bs agena they're pushing with a character who we arent even criticizing just because of that. "very faithful" to the source material huh? Dunno bout that one until they explain the grand inquisitor's case because until then that is a massive plot hole. "much more than most other disney produced star wars content". Thats not really much of a comparison, we dont really have much in the way of expectations from disney with SW. i believe the only reason you're not hearing the same criticism from this channel is because this is a breakdown and less of a review, with some opinion lightly thrown in, breakdowns are mostly intended to explain the material rather than critique it. I can't call this a good show, and mind you i am trying my best to like it, but i felt Nothign watching it. very few moments like organa being a father to leia i guess, but again this is something that has always been a part of SW, those little emotional bits, so im not giving them much praise for it. The inquisitors are not threatening to me, at all. the 4th brother i believe? is the only one i find to be entertaining at most. the actors do their jobs obviously but the writing feels sloppy, the chase scene is ridiculous on a comical level. and let me remind you, these are the same people who feel the need to go on social media to tell us that we're being racist or w/e if we dont like her character so that criticism isnt done because they want to be negative, we're all star wars fans here, we shat on the sequels for some of the same reasons we're giving this show a hard time. We dont enjoy how disney handles star wars. The mandalorian was one of the few times they got it right and that was them leaving the actual artists behind the project to do their work, That was star wars, this.........is ehhhh.

That whole scene was bad. It's like when you're playing with your kid, chasing them around the house, that is precisely how you do it. Like you're inept and they actually have a chance of evading you, it's so they have fun. When any adult could catch them before they get 3 steps. Then the show has 3 adults who are there to kidnap a child and they can't capture a child that they have surrounded in the woods. Why did they stop to explain to the child what's going on? This part was as bad as scooter gang in Boba Fett. These are the type of scenes that will break a show. Such as the rooftop chase scene by Reva in the second episode. Why didn't she just perform whole acrobatics act on the way. Wait... she did. She's in a hurry and wasting time flipping around poles and doing backflips. I just can't take her seriously now. Like any minute she's going to get on a scooter and drive away. I know the shows are supposed to be kid friendly. But if the run would have been more like Trinity in the Matrix, I feel it would established a better character.

12:43 It actually makes sense that Leia would mention the "Clone Wars" when asking for Obi-Wan's help in a New Hope rather than "the time you helped me out as a kid", because she's trying to evoke his duty to the galaxy not a personal favor. Keep in mind she was a senator talking to a former general. The 5th brother is there, and so, this might be why she doesn't use her power to the full extent (since it looks like it takes more effort to extract more information in the later episode) 2. The inquisiters leave the planet after that scene, so Ben probably assumes Luke is relatively safe for a few days 3. When it comes to Reva and mind reading Owen, I think she only does it when she senses that the person has something to tell or he's lying (as we see in episode two). Owen is honest enough, he doesn't hide a Jedi and he hates them. She's not invested in him talking and sharing what he knows, as much as she wants the Jedi to reveal himself, as it happened in the cantina. So she's not really trying to figure out what Owen knows, she's focused on reactions from the crowd more than from Owen.

There's also the matter that it's strongly implied if not outright said that one's mental state effects one's ability to use the force, so if she's in a state of nearly uncontrollable fury it could mean her mind isn't clear enough to see that while Owen isn't hiding a Jedi at his farm and generally dislikes them that he also knows where one is even at this exact moment in time.

Here's how I see it. Owen's response to Reva I think convinces her that Owen would turn in a Jedi at the first chance he gets. He's not lying to her. He truly thinks the Jedi are vermin, but he knows Obi-Wan is the only hope, however, at this point, Obi-Wan is far from a Jedi, and Owen knows this. There is no Jedi he knows. Reva senses this that Owen hates the Jedi, and obviously after they find the other Jedi, there mission on Tatooine is complete, and Luke is safe. Leia is the only one who would force Obi-Wan from Tatooine and Owen's hatred of him keeps Luke safe

Biggest issue for me is that there’s no stakes to Lea being kidnapped. I’m not concerned she won’t get back because we’re literally guaranteed by the latter films. Really wish this chapter of time was entirely away from the skywalkers and instead was just obi wan being an introspective recluse. Almost as if he’s suppressed his force knowledge so much that he has amnesia. Like the start of the Bourne identity when he doesn’t know he has all these abilities; imagine if Obi Wan was just working as a laborer truly convinced he was nobody. Not even looking remotely like a Jedi. Do away with the robe, maybe his head is shaved. No memory of his former life, because that’s how powerful his mind is, it’s so good he can even trick himself. Until he instinctually utilizes the force one day to prevent a major accident. Then we explore his re-discovery of self and it can be a commentary of finding ones inner voice again when it’s been lost. A storyline with Vader would be welcomed here still if they met in the middle of nowhere and had a surreal conversation and duel, but I can do without all the baby Luke and Lea stuff. Reeva’s irrational hate for Obi-Wan, showing up 10 ft away from him when they have an entire Galaxy to search seemed unrealistic, the chase scene with Leia was pure B rated, the Grand Inquisitor looks weird and it’s so unnecessary as they’ve done that species in live action before. At times the production quality looks good enough for the big scene and at times seems straight B rated. I liked Obi Wans interaction with the Jawa and with Owen. Overall I give it a 9/10. But mostly just cause I love the character so much and happy to see him back

Agree, the way Reeva just happens to show up right where he is, just happens to choose the one family he’s protecting = too much coincidence for me. It was just to make the scene worse than it was. Her targeting any rando would still make us struggle to see Obi-Wan sit back and do nothing. That it was Owen was over the top.

Maybe her desire to capture Obi Wan isn't so unrealistic. Think about it: the Grand Inquisitor pointed out that she is the least of them and was only given station because of her abilities. This makes Reva very ambitious to catch Obi Wan Kenobi and having to be the one to do it to prove herself to Vader and establish herself above the Grand Inquisitor. Doesn't it sound like what Anakin had to go through? He had alot to prove and was very ambitious, and desperate to stop feeling so powerless. You also add the fact that the inquisitors were constantly pitted against one another by Vader and against Vader by Sidious. Being the runt of the litter, it's not so mysterious as to why she would be desperate to catch Obi Wan. However, I think the exposition on this was rushed and wasn't clearly laid out. Or maybe, she has another gripe with Obi Wan which I think is the worse option because there was no exposition on that at all. I think the 'proving myself to Vader' route is more likely and will be dealt with further down the line.

Couple things, to me Owen is more so just concerned with Luke’s safety as he believes Anakin is dead (he says this to Obi-Wan in that first episode). Hence why he doesn’t want Obi-Wan to train Luke, he’s worried Luke could end up dead too. I think Owen doesn’t care as much about the current state of the Galaxy as a whole as he is a simple farmer. Secondly, Obi-Wan comes to the conclusion that he can leave because the inquisitors found the Jedi they were looking for on Tatooine…we clearly see the Jedi hung gruesomely at the end of the episode implying the inquisitors came and did what they set out to do and will now move on. Also, Obi-Wan clearly did struggle with the decision on whether to leave Tatooine or not. Lastly, in Revenge of the Sith Kenobi himself is the one that says he will stay and watch over Luke. Yoda doesn’t assign that role to him he just tells Obi-Wan that Luke should be given to his family on Tatooine. Then after that, Obi-Wan states he will stay to watch him and Yoda mentions that Qui-Gon can train him while he is staying on Tatooine. Just wanted to correct that. So in my opinion it doesn’t “break canon” necessarily for Obi-Wan to leave Tatooine as it was his decision to stay in the first place and as I said now that the inquisitors found the Jedi they were looking for and have moved on he feels better about Luke staying safe while he is away on this short mission to save Leia.

Her having some conflict within her is probably why she continue to pursue killing Owen, he despises the Jedi because of what happened To Annie, and his fear of Luke meeting the same fate due to obi wans involvement. I too wondered about episode 4, and Leia's message to Obi-Wan, but seeing as he introduces himself as Ben, and given how little she is at the point of the show, it's possible she just thought they were two different people. It also makes some sense for Bail to have sent her to Obi-Wan in ep 4 now, seeing as he knows Obi-Wan would do anything for Leia as well, just as he did here.

Reason Reva didn’t use force to read Owen - she had a crowd there. Rather than grow weary and lose time reading all the minds, she singled out one person to make an example of… to draw out a more targeted person. That happened to be Owen, building even more plot tension for us and Kenobi.

By your logic, Reva should've just mind probed everyone she came across with. She really had no reason to mind probe Owen since he was just some random guy she picked out from the crowd by threatening him and his family to lure the jedi or the people who helped him out. Also it makes perfect sense that he'd go and save Leia especially since we see that the inquisitors have found the other jedi on Tatooine (they even hanged his body). It makes the planet less of a target for them.

I just want to point out that in episode 4: ANH Luke mentions to Leia that he was on the Death Star with Ben Kenobi. Her response to the name wasn’t a “who’s that guy?” More of a response as if she also met Ben with her exciting “BEN KENOBI?! HERE?!” To Luke when he rescued her on the Death Star. Now Obi Wan has only mentioned his name to be “Ben” to her this far. I hope that he doesn’t mention that he is obi wan but does mention he’s Kenobi. It would make her excitement true, while she wouldn’t know that they are one and the same. She may assume like Luke that they are related.
