That scene between Vader and Obi-Wan was one of the best scenes in all of Star Wars. And the way Vader smirked as he said he was the one who killed Anakin? That was just brutal. Shows how evil Vader truly is. And also; Obi-Wan in ANH: “He betrayed and murdered your father.” Vader in Obi-Wan finale: “I am not your failure, Obi-Wan. You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker; I did.” Gotta give the writer’s credit, that really was beautifully done. Bravo

But they forgot to reference the "Obi-Wan once thought as you do" in reference to Luke saying: "Come with me..." They should have written in a way, that Obi-Wan tries to appeal to Anakin first for him to rejoin him and get rid of Vader. Could have been easily achieved by changing the opening exchange between them in this Episode. "Have you come to destroy me?" "No. I have come to rescue you." "Rescue me?!"... and then spin it into the conversation that leads to the "Anakin is dead. I killed him"-line.
@anycullen212 жыл бұрын
@@elishawilson5342 Yeah yeah, I get that, but it was Vader who told Luke "Im your father". Anakin conceived the children back when he was still a loving person, not Vader. Theyre Anakins children. Him claiming Luke means not all of Anakin is dead in him, which means Luke was right not to lose faith

I always struggled with how PT Anakin and Darth Vader seemed like different people. I know that’s kind of the point, but they were so different that I wasn’t even feeling that one evolved from the other. This series - and in particular that fight - helped bridge that gap for me.
@drewmark16182 жыл бұрын
Yep. I always had the same difficulty. But this sold it to me. It also further informs how right George was to cast him. It also confirms what @starwarstheory has been saying for years, in that, the way Hayden played Anakin was entirely deliberate, even down to the voice. If Hayden had NOT played it that way this scene would not have worked as well as it did. 17 years later.
@BobPantsSpongeSquare972 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue but it resolved with me in the Clone Wars when Anakin's slow dissolutionment with the jedi feels more natural and later with Rebels when we hear Clone Wars Anakin's voice coming from Vader. But I get what you're saying because this series also does that with Hayden finally talking like Vader instead of just being angry Hayden
@prometheus28812 жыл бұрын
@@BobPantsSpongeSquare97 if you pay close attention in revenge of the sith you can actually hear that after Anakin falls to the dark side and kills the younglings Hayden actually changes the cadence of his voice to match the way Vader talks instead of the way Anakin usually spoke. He really was the perfect choice for the role and it’s really a shame it took so long for a lot of people to see that
@BobPantsSpongeSquare972 жыл бұрын
@@prometheus2881 nah having grown up with the prequels, even as a kid I knew Hayden was miscast as Vader. His line delivery wasn't great because Lucas since the way beginning wasn't good at directing his actors and I was never convinced of Anakin turning to the dark side. Aside from his mother dying, we don't see much of internal darkness for episodes 1 or 2. Everything is jam packed into episode 3 but felt incredibly rushed. From a story perspective it didn't register with me that Anakin would betray the jedi and kill children in a single evening and him being passed up as a master didn't seem like enough. Because his love story wasn't good with Padme, that explains why him being paranoid with her future death didn't translate well. Again for many people Anakin got fixed with the Clone Wars and that show is the reason why the prequel's flaws are easier to overlook. Having said all that I still do have nostalgia for Hayden and was glad that he got to reunite with Ewan and they both had better writers and a director who got better performances out of them here
@Tr0nzoid2 жыл бұрын
It never worked for me, either. Anakin was presented as too good and then the turn in "Revenge of the Sith" was too quick. The Clone Wars got more dramatic but he was still a likeable hero and a less aggravating one.
@ustampfli50022 жыл бұрын
I really liked how Anakin's voice kept fluctuating between Hayden and Jones. An excellent representation of how he still has this fight within himself between the good and the bad.
@mitchellhayward64922 жыл бұрын
There is no internal struggle in this moment, no doubt. It's not symbolic. Everything he says in that moment is cruelly calculated, a move of psychological warfare. The distorted, fluctuating voice is there to for no other reason than to remind us that there is a person behind that suit so physically broken that he doesn't speak with his own voice anymore. There is no fight within himself, not until Empire Strikes Back.
@mitchellhayward6492 Жыл бұрын
@Thomas Kearse Lucky guess. You're right, I haven't. And I don't intend to either. Despite what the so-called "canon" EU has ever had to do with any of it, your statement does not invalidate mine. I will take Vader as the Lucas era films have presented him, and that will suffice. Not that anything in this Kenobi series even mattered or made a great deal of sense anyway. Much like the Sequels, it was ultimately pointless.

When Vader says **"I am not your failure"** , his face is covered in blue light as if Anakin Is accepting the apology from Obi wan . Then his face turns red , when Vader returns with darkness . This was so symbolising in a way that even though He's Darth Vader there's is still some Anakin left in him only those who really know him can take out .(Another instance Ashoka ) and Finally Master Qwai Gon for 5secs after two and a half decades Overally what a great short series which greatly connects the events , also keeping the characters comically accurate . 8:30 the answer to that question lays with the Grand Inquisitors quote of, "revenge does wonders for the will to live". As the dark side feeds off emotions, revenge being one of the strongest, those that use its power tend to survive much more than Jedi. As well, Qui-gon was the one Jedi to rediscover force ghosts. So when Maul bested him he was already ready to pass onto the after life, he no longer needed to be alive and so he passed on more peacefully than the anger fueled "lives" of the Dark Siders usually live.
@arkez352 жыл бұрын
FINALLY someone who gets it!!! Even Palpatine himself says it in Revenge Of The Sith: "The Dark Side is a pathway to many abilities some would consider unnatural." The power to defy killing wounds and death itself is one of those abilities. Many Sith and Dark Side users have accomplished this. Maul and Vader being the biggest Canon examples of this.
@corneliuscrewe6772 жыл бұрын

I got a little teary when she was crying and feeling so much remorse and guilt and Obi Wan comforted her. I think you’re right, he almost def wishes he had that kind of interaction with Anakin after the duel. And freaking Palps! That made me happy. Same with my man Qui Gon. As for letting Reva live, killing someone in cold blood, especially a former youngling who has faced such horror and despite that ultimately does not succumb to evil, is absolutely not the Jedi way. Ultimately I believe it shows how powerful Obi-Wan truly is that he trusts the Force, especially the living Force. I don't think it's a coincidence that's when Qui-Gon shows up. I mean, he's the one that was considered a bit of a rebel in the Jedi order. But that was to an order that was slowly losing their way, especially during the clone wars where they turned more into warriors than priests. For me those moments in this episode where he lets both Vader and Reva live show that Obi-Wan can finally shake that Clone Wars soldier side of himself and become a true Jedi again the way his master taught him.

@@Madagon367 Well that's nothing compared to how many people Vader killed and tortured, but Luke showed him mercy even before he redeemed himself in RotJ. With regards to when Vader later says "Obi Wan once thought as you do" I think it works. During this fight scene Obi Wan is indeed trying to reach out and apologize to Anakin but Vader doesn't want an apology. He said he killed Anakin, not Obi Wan, so pretty much there's no point in trying to reach out to Anakin since he's gone

Yessss! Obiwan goes from “I’m sorry, Anakin” to “Goodbye, Darth”, verbalizing his acceptance that Anakin Skywalker (“the good man I knew”) is dead. It’s a peace that he only could find once he re-centered himself in the force while in the pit - he lets go of his fear and guilt (the flashbacks voiceovers) and finds peace in thinking about the twins.

Reva's survival: clearly, surviving mortal wounds through sheer rage is possible through the Dark Side. But also, physical injuries are not as straightforward and consistent as many seem to want to believe. Sometimes people survive wounds that should have been fatal, sometimes they die to wounds that others survive. One of the biggest curses of Star Wars fans is overthinking things and presuming that everything must work in a perfectly-consistent manner at all times (when not even real life isn't that consistent).

@21:56 I don't think Obi-Wan would have tried after Mustafar. He even said it, "Only a Sith deals in absolutes." Seeing Anakin, or what was left of the friend he once knew, was the final nail in the coffin. Ironically, the words means to cause Obi-Wan pain brought the most comfort. "I am not your failure Obi-Wan." It was the confirmation he needed to know Vader was who Anakin chose to be. Honestly, I agree with the theory that only Luke could turn Anakin back to the light side. Ahsoka and Obi-Wan are remnants of Vader's past, Luke and Leia were the future he so desperately wanted.

Exception of the episode 4 because they didn't think the science out of it, lightsabers heat is so hot that it coterized the wound, that's why we never see blood and guts even when sliced in half; That's how Darth Maul survived. So when it penetrate the body, if it does'nt puncture a vital organ, like real life stabbing, you survive
@jacob49202 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Even in our own world, someone gets poked in the intestines, or the kidneys, they recover just fine (as long as they get the necessary medical attention). If she'd gotten poked through the heart, or the brain, she'd have been dead in a second. But Vader didn't stab her in those vital organs. He deliberately left her to die slowly. He legitimately didn't give a shit what she did afterward, even if she somehow survived, she was no threat to him anyhow.

I would’ve loved more cuts back on Tatooine with Owen, Beru and Luke. Those parts I loved. Owen was truly a bad ass with no special powers besides love for his nephew and honoring he memory of his dad and step mom. again- not going to complain too much. Overall i liked it and it gave me a lot to enjoy. But I guarantee in the months to follow- there will be episodes or scenes I will skip over to get to the ones I like. @myyklmax2 жыл бұрын
Hello Nikki & Steven .... The fight between Vader and Kenobi was epic. If you notice, every stoke or swipe from Anakin is a kill shot. He always goes for the head o vital organs. While Obi-Wan always deflects and redirects the blows coming at him. He wears down his adversary while Anakin constantly tries to overcome them. Kenobi shows Anakin how strong he can be, when he finally fully re-embraced the Force Reve has her trying moment of choice. If she kills Luke, she becomes Anakin, the person she hates for who he has become. And she couldn't do it. She could not kill a child. I don't think she knows that Luke, or Leia, are Anakin's/Vader's children. But that knowledge does come to light in later years after Return of the Jedi; during Heir to the Empire: the Thrawn Trilogy. FYI.... For those who know and don't know Quigon is leading Obi-Wan into Beggers Canyon in the final shot.

It’s nice to see the stories acknowledge the importance of Breha and Bail Organa AND Beru and Owen Lars - yes Leia and Luke obviously have qualities of their birth parents, but their adoptive parents who raised them also instilled those qualities as well. It was good of Leia to answer to Obi Wan’s comment of how he wishes he could tell her more of her birth parents by saying that it’s okay because she already knows and looking at Breha and Bail because they are her parents too and is just as important to who she is. The show did a good balance of nature and nurture. Also Beru Whitesun Lars just really to throw hands at anyone coming after Luke is amazing

Surviving grievous wounds is a theme with the dark side of the Force. The hate and the anger fuel them enough to survive injuries that would be lethal otherwise (there are several examples in the canon and also legends of this).
