That's a good interpretation. I was always had that interpretation. Anakin chose to kill himself and become Darth Vader. At the end of the day, it was Anakin's choice and at that point he was a Jedi Knight and not a padawan anymore so it wasn't Obi-Wan's fault 100%.

All kidding aside there was still not a conveyance of the absolute truth to Luke or his sister......And I do completely understand that. But I always felt Obi Wan had regrets of not trying harder to save him. And perhaps that is the deal with "Vader betrayed and murdered your father" Side note: This is a fantastic duel, a great reveal to Obi Wan, and a great ending. I thought it was very very well done. And I have been going with this since the beginning (Born in 78)

My only issue with this line from Episode 4 is that Vader says HE left Obi-Wan, but here it is clearly the other way around. Although he might have meant that he "left" Obi-Wan alone when Palps told him to back off.

I too think on some level Anakin is removing layers of self doubt and grief from Kenobi. Obiwan blames himself, but Anakin is saying "You didn't do this, I did. it's not your fault", thereby vindicating Kenobi.

This is a great analysis. I noticed that as well. Hayden out of costume and makeup has grown up to even look a little bit like the late, great Sebastian Shaw. You can tell Hayden has a lot of love and respect for his character and he'd done his homework. It's wonderful to see him vindicated in his worthiness to play Vader after all the hate he got after the prequels. I'm not innocent, I don't like the prequels, but seeing him here, doing such an excellent job of being both terrifying and tragic, I'm happy to admit I was unfairly harsh about him. He's fully deserving of the role and I am happy for him.

This scene gives so much backstory....Vader wasn't talking about his loss on Mustafar during ANH but rather this,I always wondered why Ben Kenobi called him Darth now we know he knew Anakin was dead at this point and Vader was the one alive,Luke's words that's "My Father Is Truly Dead Then" hits much harder cause from what Vader knows that's was the last thing his Wife said and his best friend said to him.

The lightsaber duels in Star Wars......they are always the most fantastic part of the films. The first encounter between Obi-Wan and Vader on the Death Star..... Luke and Vader on the Death Star 2.0, to Anakin and Obi-Wan (Prequel and here) Yoda and Dooku/Palpatine Even between Rey and Ben/Luke and Ben........there is an ability to bring out emotion just within the action of the fight.....the characters fighting. Something about the lightsaber duel has reached even beyond iconism.

My head canon believes that Qui-Gon was actually present during the fight and that he actually stopped Obi-Wan from killing Vader. He knows that Anakin is still the chosen one and that the force will work itself out in the end. That could also explain why we never actually see him appear to Obi-Wan until after the fight.

While I do think that is a possible and touching detail I think it’s more likely that obiwan spared Vader because for a glimpse he saw Anakin, and after having destroyed himself over what happened to his friend he froze in the sight. Only coming to terms with it after Vader had literally said that obiwan didn’t kill him, rather he did. Obiwan loves Anakin and for that he could never be the one to kill him

I'm not opposed to the cuts, though there are a couple of parts where the continuity seems janky. What really bugs the shit out of me is the god damn shaky cam. Throughout the whole fucking season, like they had a cameraman with parkinson's. That's really my only complaint about any of it.

With the exception of a few scenes, this entire series has been garbage. But this, this scene, made it worth sitting through. It's outstanding in every way. No forced exposition, no terrible writing, bad acting, awful CGI, or amusement park-looking sets. This scene alone felt real and tied everything together from the original three films. The show was exceptional when it came to obi-wan and Anakin. The Leia subplot should’ve played a much smaller role. It would’ve been ideal if Leia was the reason obi wan left Tatooine and he then seeks the path to get her home safely only for him to be split off by Vader and find his own way back to Tatooine. It would’ve been much more meaningful and would fall more in line with canon as Leia seems to acknowledge obi wan more formally in A New Hope.
