Object Relations Theory: Introduction

This video provides a simple overview of Melanie Klein's Object Relations Theory. Outlining the two main stages of early infancy, the Paranoid Schizoid Position and the Depressive Position. Also gives a brief comparison between Klein's Object Relations Theory and Freud's Psychodynamics Theory.

Thanks, this covers several of my former questions, not directly as derived from Guntrip, but it would seem that you can't get to Guntrip from here without first going through Klein, Winnicot, and Fairbairn. It is quite shocking how very little of Guntrip's contributions are available online, so I'm very interested in seeing how you distill it down and present it all with a bow on it, as you have with this episode.

To me, this video is pointing at how schizoids would see people as being unreliable and disappointing. Also, how trust issues with others would formulate. There may very well be a "push-pull" environment in regard to the child's caregiver/caregivers.

I agree that the video sheds light on the perspective of schizoids and their potential perception of people as unreliable and disappointing. Trust issues can certainly emerge, potentially influenced by a complex dynamic with the child's caregiver(s).
