The editing is weird, the presentation is strange....it makes the pace of the game appear much different than the original which does not work to its advantage. This Radiant AI seems INCREDIBLY buggy. It's like the AI is trying really hard to impress you with how much it can do, but it's not working, so it winds up looking like the AI is not really doing anything. I understand now why they made it the way they did without adding or restoring the original programming.

Fantastic idea. But somewhat flawed execution. This is why Bethesda diluted it down significantly before launch. It's a shame because I don't think it was worth scrapping all these elements for the sake of easing development hindrances. There were workarounds that (given time, developer competency, and financial investment) could have made one of the most dynamic games ever created. I'm no game developer, so take these suggestions with a grain of salt. A couple of ideas I would have bounced off the wall would have been: 1) Just let NPCs who commit crimes be willing to spend a day or 2 in a jail cell if they don't have the gold spare to pay the fine (might want to increase jail cell quantity whilst we're implementing this!). The player could still interact with them by visiting the prison if required. If the player really needed to interact with them outside of prison, then wait the required time until their release. 2) Mark some NPCs (mostly named Town/City NPCs, bandits and generic guards should be killable by anyone) as "semi-essential"; an additional assignation to the already pre-existing "essential" and "non-essential" NPCs in the game. So the semi-essential NPCs can be killed by the player character but not by another NPC, hence avoiding walking into towns littered with dead beggars and Skooma addicts. In fact, if I had my way there would be absolutely no essential NPCs (just like Morrowind or Fallout New Vegas), but the existence of these semi-essential tagged NPCs would be welcomed by me for the sake of immersion and no unavoidable game- breaking bugs due to AI unpredictability. And I'm sure cleverer people than me can think up some better ideas, or even ammend my own above if there are obvious issues I haven't considered.

Bethesda was decades ahead of their time with Radiant AI. The only way I could think of to get a system like it to work without eventually breaking the game is to have a set of 'important' NPCs who are for the most part on a set schedule and have set activities but have some leeway on how they are able to go about their daily schedule, and are either unkillable until their quest is complete or until a certain requirement is met, or are only killable by the player, like how Skyrim worked but with a few tweaks. > For example, Delphine and Esbern would be killable once you get to the point that they ask you to kill Paarthurnax, as their usefulness to the character has ran its course and they are no longer required for the story to progress. > Another example would be the Imperial Legates and Stormcloak Officers at their respective camps. At the end of the Civil War, regardless of what side you choose, the second in command (either Galmar Stone-Fist or Legate Rikke) recommends raiding enemy camps and wiping them out. Problem is, the Legates and Officers at each camp are marked as essential (not Important, Important NPCs can be killed only by the player but they ARE killable), so despite the green light to go nuts and finish off the last remnants of either the Empire or the Stormcloaks in Skyrim, you simply can't do it without mods or console commands. There would also be a lot of expendable and respawnable NPCs with fully-radiant AI enabled, which would live, eat, sleep, rob, murder, go to jail, be released, walk out into the wilds to go hunting or to go to the next town over, and get killed by a bear or a random wandering bandit, also radiant AI enabled, and then respawn as someone else to rinse and repeat once again. Of course this was not possible on the PS3 and Xbox 360, nor would it have been possible on a 32-bit PC due to RAM limitations as well as processors and GPUs being not that great compared to what we have now. It would have also required stellar optimization and rigorous playtesting and bugfixing, neither of which Bethesda is particularly great at. However, it could in theory work in the modern day, given the AI is given some limitations to what it is allowed to do for important characters. There are a few mods for Skyrim that overhaul the AI. Specifically, ones like Immersive Citizens and AI Overhaul SSE. They can work together with patches, but if you have mods that change cities very much they may do some unusual things. For example, Immersive Citizens makes NPCs sit on the walls outside Whiterun. However, since I am using a mod that beefs up Whiterun's walls, they appear to just be sitting in the middle of the parapet, and if you look closely their legs are going through the floor. It's a very minor incompatibility that doesn't harm gameplay at all and only barely scratches immersion if you pay super close attention, but it's an incompatibility nonetheless.

I've definitely seen beggars try to steal in vanilla Oblivion, at least for the XBox 360. Possibly an update? Most impressive thing Iv seen in years, there is some sort Radiant ai behaviors in Skyrim but there are no published docs on what exactly they do. People have largely forgotten about ai in games and gone into scripted paths/cinematic. Watch dogs legion used sophisticated chain questing ai with voice modulation that nobody bothered to highlight in that almost every single person can become a chain quest trigger. The nemesis system is a more basic form of ai that exists in some form in Assasins Creed "I think"..its impossible to know since it seems devs have largely abandoned automated ai in games.

I suspect the most impressive features of RadiantAI have been gutted from the engine by the time of Skyrim's release, considering the closest thing Skyrim has to it is the OrganicFactions mod - and that mod relies on few way more simplistic and determenistic systems as backbone than "When counter-value, Find closest item-type (in trade, pocket, container, interior, or exterior), Determine method to acquire the item, Acquire the item, Use the item, Reset counter"

TOOOO MUCH

Most of these changes make the game worse. There are good reasons they dropped them. guards killing npcs? random mob spawns killing npcs? Do you think there are too many npcs in towns?

*I wouldn't say you "restored" anything. You added a few trivial mechanics to their AI, but you did nothing to fix the fundamental issues that came with vanilla RAI. If I take a broken car to a mechanic, I want him to fix what's broken, not give it a new paint job or add some shiny rims.*

Hello Phil, As a creator, of course i used a more attentive title. But, giving the AI more freedom and a overall more dynamic appearance was the actual goal of Radiant AI back in the days. So "restoring" through Mods (as in the description mentoined) is the right wording.
@Imaginationcinematics4 жыл бұрын
+ the goal wasnt to fix anything, because there wasnt anything broken. It's just that bethesda toned down the Radiant AI to preserve a better working game at the cost of dynamic interactions. So the goal of this video was indeed "restoring" some of the Radiant AI.

But thanks for interacting with one of my videos! 👍

@@Imaginationcinematics Bethesda toned down the radiant ai exactly for what you showed, guards killing npcs who steal. The fix is to allow the guard to take the npc to jail and to designated zones for that interaction in the jail.

Exactly, thats what i already said above. (xD)

I mean it's interesting but I don't know why you would do this for Oblivion which is the worst Elder Scrolls game. Why not spend the time improving Skyrim instead
@Imaginationcinematics4 жыл бұрын
Because oblivion wasn't the worst, simple answer. Skyrim doesn't have dynamic AI at all, so it would be a pain in the ass to implement something like this. We can just hope bethesda go's back to radiant ai in tes 6..

Wtf are you talking about? Skyrim is the most watered down of all the Elder Scrolls games. Daggerfall will always be my fave, but Oblivion comes in a close second.
@yosharian4 жыл бұрын
@@Anonymous0C Oblivion is widely regarded as one of the worst Elder Scrolls games if not the worst, so I don't know why you're surprised. I suggested Skyrim because it's the most modern game and thus has the most thriving mod scene.
@Imaginationcinematics4 жыл бұрын
We have to talk about the definition of good, bad or worse here. Skyrim was the most successfull elder scrolls game, yes. But regarding to roleplay, dynamic world and quest's (which are the keyelements of the elder scrolls since arena) skyrim is the worst elder scrolls because it's mechanics are downgraded to a minimum. Oblivion was important, because of the next generation tech in terms of graphics and ai. Quests were also a lot better and the overall world was more believable. Check out some videos from thecantina, he breaks it down perfectly.
