A quick guide on how and why to level efficiently in Oblivion. This method allows your character to gain 5 point in each attribute each level, and, more importantly, it allows you to reach 100+ endurance early on and massively increase your health pool late in the game.

So i want to make a pure warrior in Oblivion, but i'm really new to the game. Can you tell me what i should pick for a custom class and maybe some bonus newbie tips, Thanks.
@DVSPress
@DVSPress 8 жыл бұрын
I would say pick heavy armor (endurance), blade (strength), restoration (int), conjuration (willpower - plus it's nice to have a skeleton or demon fighting next to you as a warrior) or destruction (willpower), Athletics (speed), sneak or marksman (agility), and illusion (personality). That's a good mix of skills to make you effective with a melee play style right away, and you won't "overlevel" the way you would if you triple dipped in one attribute. Playstyle would be sword and shield plus heavy armor, conjuring fighting friends and healing as needed, using bows at a distance (or sneaking with leather boots on - fun fact, you can wear full plate and have a bonus to sneak if you wear shoes with zero weight), using nightvision/light/charm as needed. You don't have to level efficiently for that character to develop into something really fun and badass. If you want to level efficiently (maxing endurance first and eventually all attributes), make sure you are training or leveling armorer and block every level. Agility, endurance, and willpower all contribute to your total stamina, so those attributes are important as well. Thanks for watching! I might do a video on newbie tips later on. I think I did one showing how you can get the dark brotherhood robes at level one and get a permanent zero weight Daedra bow with a slight cheat. The biggest thing when you are starting out is just to have a bit of fun. Do what interests you and don't worry about out-playing the game. It's supposed to be fun after all; I just have fun being meticulous.

Hi noob. Its Breton - the Atronach - Adventurer - made in a way to raise your lowest stats... you lv up gaining 5 to strength and 5 to endurance and 1 in luck till they make max. 100. Then the rest. Do all quests requiring you to sleep before it would cause you to lv. Keep track of all owed lvs. Waste nothing. Use less than the best solestones and enchant your lowly armor with strength. Luck reaches 100 at about the same time all the rest top out to 100. Restoration and alchemy mastery - heavy - sword - shield - too. At lv 3 I was casting a life buff heal and regenerate spell to keep allies alive ( to live for ) before doing those quests . All enemies remained low lv. Try it... you'll like it. :) ... I did :) I'm just saying

I spent so much time trying to get this shit and after literal YEARS of trying it I finally got how it works: Basically, say you want to level up efficiently your STRENGHT, INTELLIGENCE and ENDURANCE alright? First off you start by choosing as a major skill one skill of each of these attributes, for example: STRENGHT - you choose Blade INTELLIGENCE - you choose Conjuration ENDURANCE - you choose Block Here's how it works: Every time you level up 10 times any of the major skills you chose, in any order (for example you level up Blade by 3, Conjuration by 3 and Block by 4) you're going to level up. If you want to level up efficiently, focus on one attribute at a time: STRENGHT If you level up Blade 3 times, you have to level up a minor skill governed by the STRENGHT attribute 7 times, so you have 10 total skill points earned in STRENGHT in that level. You level up Blade 3 times, then Hand to Hand 7 times. 3 + 7 = 10, so you'll get +5 in STRENGHT. INTELLIGENCE You level up Conjuration 3 times, then Mysticism 7 times so you have 10 points earned for INTELLIGENCE and you'll get +5 INTELLIGENCE ENDURANCE You level up Block 4 times but before that you level up, say, Heavy Armor 6 times. 4 + 6 = 10 points earned for ENDURANCE so you'll get +5 ENDURANCE Of course be careful to level up all your minor skills before hitting 10 points for the major skills, otherwise you're going to level up without getting +5.

Omg yes
@davidestefanizzi7926
@davidestefanizzi7926 3 жыл бұрын
@@jakardvalentine3377 Yes you have to be pretty committed to it. You can do it without grinding that much if you do it in reverse. For example if you run a mage like you do, instead of choosing say Destruction (which you use a lot) as a major skill and say Alteration as a minor skill, do the opposite. Choose Alteration as a major so you only have to level it up 3 times and you can safely use destruction as much as you want since you have it as a minor skill and it's not a big deal if you level it up a lot.

I've spent 40 days on this game literally trying to perfect my character design . I've made more than a hundred characters over and over again because I wasn't satisfied with my custom class. I always wanted to play on very hard and master every step of the leveling system. Trying to get 3-5's every level . Constantly starting over and over and over again. I Fucking hate this endless cycle of nonsense. I wish I was a noob, I wish I sucked at oblivion and never worried about this . I remember the good old days when I started oblivion . The days that I didn't even worry about making a custom class or perfecting my character . Until the day that picking a Breton and a high elf became a nightmare. Choosing the 7 major skills correctly . Using a blunt weapon most of the game even after you chose blade as your major but I didn't want to level up , starting a new game at level 12 because you realized that choosing block blade and heavy armor is keeping you from getting +5 in endurance. Starting over again because I stupidly chose mercantile as my major so I can control my leveling, but only made me angry because restoration was a better option . STARTING AGAIN BECAUSE MY CHARACTER IS TOO SLOW WITH SPEED AT 35, AND HEAVY ARMOR IS MAKING ME RUN LIKE IM HANDICAPPED. Starting over because I chose high elf and I'm getting raped in oblivion realms by literally everything. FUCK YOU OBLIVION . This horrific nightmare still haunts me today . I was playing oblivion today and I just gave up . There's no such thing as a perfect character , it's make belief . We all want it but never got it. Screw you Bethesda . You did this on purpose . My life is never going to be meaningful unless I make the perfect character .

One of my favorite spells is Drain Health 100 in 100 feet for 1 second. Makes those 3 v 1 matches end pretty much instantly. Also made a lethal weakness spell that I pair with a damage spell. Basically 100% weakness to everything but poison for 10 seconds, stacked with the burden + drain strength thing you mentioned earlier. I finish them off while they can't move with a spell that has a 100 point each Drain/Damage (Regular)/Fire/Frost and Shock Damage combo all on touch (To make the cost lower). Feels so unfair sometimes, it is basically a public execution at that point. If my calculations are right, that is 1,300 damage with a single attack (Assuming they don't have any initial resistances).

Because if you gain too many levels quickly in the major abilities (by putting stuff there that levels quickly) you can level up before having +10 +10 +10 in your chosen three attributes. If you overlevel your minor skills you wont accidentally level up. Its still inefficient to have +11 or more though but at least you can get +5 +5 +5 easier when you level up. Putting skills you barely use in major skills makes levelling up harder though so I prefer to make my majors stuff I use Morriwind was amazing because you just did a "preparation" of going to a trainer for your skills associated with the atrribute and paid them the necessary amount of times before going out to play the game. This way you guaranteed +5 +5 +5.

Absolutly OP character build = Altmer + Vampire + Atronach + 100% Chameleon (just to be safe since Altmers have low HP). With all the Attributes and Skills capped this build is just insane. First, with so much mana you'll be able to cast custom spells that have a VERY high mana cost but will simply destroy pretty much anyting in front of you and honestly, not having auto-regen for the mana isn't much of a problem, there are a lot of ways to gain mana and the Atronach sign already gives Spell Absorption 50% on Self to begin with. Second, in true vampire form your Athletic and Acrobatics will both reach 120 (and even more with enchanted stuff, the Felldew exploit etc...) so you'll run and jump like crazy. And finally, 100% Chameleon allows you to be almost always completely undetectable so no need to really worry about the character's low HP. I admit this build is a total game-breaker, but that's exactly the point, and why I like it so much. Being a vampire demi-god can be so satisfying after all! :)

Don't make much sense roll play wise but that's how this game works. And never ever waste a point in charisma because it useless.

David Stewart Sweet. I'm still on the consoles with the 360 and PS3. I usually tend to find older games after playing the newer ones. I did the same with Dark Souls. Started with Dark Souls 2, found Dark Souls 1, and ended up getting a PS3 for Demon's Souls. Always late to the party here.

One thing I can say is that games do not on average get better as time goes on. The opposite, in many cases. What improves is the graphics, and good graphics do not make a good game. Old games a great.

That's always my point when someone argues graphics matter. In certain cases, possibly, but growing up (if I still had the systems) I played games with what would be considered "poor" quality graphics wise yet have a better and solid story to it than most modern day games. Every era does have it's white buffalo games though.

2.5 minutes in yes endurance governs health gain per level. Played morrowind gotye for years and in the end character creation where you select skills looked horrible like what did I make. Yeah but it made leveling endurance and strength or I think willpower for encumbrance or manna gain easy and fast. I worked out a crazy way leveling minors so it gave max 3 or 5 extra per skill I forgot it's been years. But I skipped oblivion lol I got morrowind like 6 months before oblivion came out and learned how to prevent game freezing after having disc cleaned to many times and blockbuster just got oblivion in and I'm trying to buy morrowind for xbox uhhhh yeah tell me it's pc while I'm holding an xbox disc ganestop stop had it anyways I played morrowind for several years while other people played oblivion. Max all stats early was easy when you figure it out on paper it's a confusing mess but that sweet melee spot to the left of enemy's head is why people don't like the combat but when you figure it out it's easy. This guide of yours might be like how I did morrowind and then skyrim plan out leveling ups for max efficiency.

I still don't understand how to get +5 attributes on a level-up. I'll increase my blade from 30 to 40, and my strength attribute will only be a +2 when it's time to level. I've continuously increased three major skills by at least 10 on one level and there will be a +4 on one attribute, a +3 on another , and a +2 on the other one even though they were all increased by 10. I don't worry about minor skills because I thought they don't affect your attributes at all. I'm missing something about this efficient leveling system. If I raise all my skills related to an attribute by more than 10 combined, does that decrease the +5? Do I have to raise all three skills for an attribute by EXACTLY 10 combined to get the +5? And if I raise other skills by 10 also does that screw up the attributes I was intentionally targeting for that level up? For instance I spammed the shit out of my conjure spells whenever I walked anywhere outside and raised it by like 18 in one level, and only raised my targeted skills by 10 or 12. Did raising skills on non-targeted attributes keep me from getting the +5 on attributes I WAS targeting on that level? This shit is really confusing. I've restarted my characters like 4 times already trying to figure it out.
@DVSPress
@DVSPress 7 жыл бұрын
First, any skill ups you get AFTER the level-up message roll over into your next level. You have to get all your skill-ups prior to getting 10 TOTAL major skill skill-ups to cause you to level. Getting 18 major skill points and refusing to sleep will just cause you to level up (possibly several times in a row). In order to get +5 you MUST get levels in your minor skills, not just your major skills. Your major skills are what causes you to level up (10 skill-ups total in any set of skills), but your attribute gain is determined by the skill points you gain in each attribute area, regardless of whether it is a major or minor skill. For instance, strength governs blade, block, and blunt. You can get 10 skills in any combination of these to hit the +5 when you level up. So, usually you want to manage your skills so that you get 10 skill ups in three areas (30 total) BEFORE seeing the level up message, with 10 of those skill points being in major skills and the rest on minor skills. Hope that helps.

First of all thank you for the rapid and thorough response to my question, that's going above and beyond. Also I didn't know the level-up prompt would cut off any further attribute increases for the next level, so that's good to know. Basically I'm going to figure out which three attributes I want to raise during each level and then stop using the associated skills when they add up to exactly 10. Then I'll hit my major total for a level up. Hopefully I got that right. I also restarted my character with major skills that I seldom use but can easily spam so that way I can control when I level up. Than I can just increase minor skills through natural gameplay until I get my 10 skill raises on each desired attribute, then spam up a couple major skills for the level-up. Guess I'll see how that works out. Thanks again for the advise.
@DVSPress
@DVSPress 7 жыл бұрын
No problem. Also don't sweat it if you don't get +5 every time as there are more levels than attributes achievable for most classes. Endurance is the only one I would be truly anal about unless (like me, I guess) you have a tedious nature. Only endurance has cumulative effects that build and build the earlier you max out the attribute, as far as I know.
@JasonShallPerish
@JasonShallPerish 7 жыл бұрын
I figured out the leveling system finally. I deleted my Breton that was being slowly out-leveled by enemies and started over with a Dunmer which is a better race for my style of play. I maxed out my Endurance early and have gotten the 5/5/5 attribute increase every level-up, so I'm much happier with my new character because it's a lot stronger per level, and more well-rounded character overall which was my main goal. Thanks again!
@justin1730
@justin1730 7 жыл бұрын
You can only get 3 attribute points for each skill, 1 for each primary skill increase. You will need at least 2 skills based in strength to get 5 points when you level. You can also get 1 attribute point for every 3 secondary skill increases. If blade and hand to hand are main attributes, you need 3 blade, and 2 hand to hand skill increases to get 5 strength points when you level up. If hand to hand is secondary, you need 3 blade and 6 hand to hand skill increases. If both are secondary, you need 9 blade, and 6 hand to hand increases.

What i hate is when developers turn single player games into multiple player. They cared more about the aspects involved in multiplayer than the rich storylines single player game had. - Take Fable 1, & 2 on xbox 360 for example - i was sitting in a few parties when fable 2 had been out for awhile, all people talked about was, what job they had in game, who's having sex with whom ,and what diseases they got lol. Im thinking, '' what about the storylines..?'' Anyway i remember a friend of mine had an argument over the fact that his gfs character had sex with someone else's character instead of his. lol that was so ridiculous to me.What you do in a game has no reflection of what you do in real life. I also remember a girl in a game calling me childish because of my avatar. She obviously thought that my avatar reflects me in real life lol so i said look..i come on xbox to let my hair down an relax. Im having fun..not being serious. I save that for the real world. Get to know someone before you judge them.

Dude I watched your video a few years ago when I first started playing Oblivion. I had an obsession with creating the strongest character possible, and this video was a huge help on figuring out the 5/5/5 or 5/5/1 system, and why Endurance is so important to max out first. I started keeping an Excel sheet to record my skill numbers after every level up, and plan out which attributes to raise on each level. Maxing out every attribute and skill is half the fun for me. Anyway I appreciate this video for getting me on the right track. I'm on my 8th or 9th playthrough and I've fine-tuned all the advanced strats by now, basically achieving God mode by getting 100% reflect damage/resist magic and two-shotting every boss with the Hatreds Soul bow and arrows. Oblivion has become my favorite game of all time.

Very late comment on this but I'm on my first oblivion playthrough. My major skills are blade, marksman, sneak, light armour, conjuration, destruction and restoration. I feel like i made my character significantly underpowered by athletics training every level (I'm level 18). I already knew the scroll dupe glitch and a bunch of skill grinds which I've been abusing heavily. I wish i took some easy to grind dump skills as my major skills instead, like speechcraft, i made a spell that charms 100 on touch and fortifies personality on myself by 100 so anyone i use that on instantly likes me making that skill useless. If i wanted to level with it as a major skill because i had +5 in the attributes i wanted, i could go up to a guard and spam the persuasion wheel to level up

The one rule I stick to when I set out on creating a max-stats character is that I always pick one major skill for each of the 7 different attributes. My current character has these Major Skills Strength - Blade Intelligence - Conjuration Willpower - Alteration Agility - Marksman Speed - Light Armor Endurance - Heavy Armor Personality - Illusion Pick and choose as you like, but sticking to this rule will allow you to spread the 10 Major Skill points per level up across the 3 different attributes you want to train, and gives you a choice of 9 skills to use at any time. I do this to try and negate some of the issues that are built into the oblivion levelling system. If you need to sell stuff to get rid of excess carry weight or make some cash, you’ll run the risk of increasing your mercantile skill. Equally, preventing yourself from levelling up athletics & acrobatics is virtually impossible when playing the game. If you aren’t arsed about a lost skill point here or there then it’s not an issue, but if you’re trying to get perfect stats it can be a real ball ache getting a skill increase in something you didn’t want to increase. Having one major skill for each attribute that you can consciously decide on wether you’re going to use it or not is a massive help.

Which is also why they tell you to pick one from each group as a major.

Yes just make sure you don't make all the skills you want to use major skills. Keep some as minor skills. So don't pick heavy armor, block, and armorer. Just pick one of the three.
