So Bethesda and their engines... Skyrim Special Edition, and specifically all the crazy stuff modders have implemented (e.g. BFCO), I've been thoroughly convinced by modders and Bethesda themselves, that the problem with Bethesda isn't their engine, but Bethesda.

@@billy65bob Yes I do agree, you are 100% right, at least in my personal opinion, that its more on Bethesda and not utilizing their engine correctly rather than the issue being with the engine itself. Also, appreciate you watching the vid!

Would be right, especially for newer hires not used to Creation Engine. Have to keep in mind the complexity of their games impacts the final result, especially if you consider crunch time and they aren't as big as other companies. (Iirc, around 80 or maybe around 100 people worked on Fo3, and that was at the end when they added people post Oblivion. Compared to Assassin's creed 2, a much simpler game, with a manpower of around 450.)

The thing EVERY remake should aim to do is keep what the community loves(oblivion's world, quest chains, spells, freedom) while fixing the things the community disliked(oblivion's combat, repetitive dungeons, egregiously long loading screens, horrible balance between perks and skill progression). I will also say the premade classes are absolute garbage. Just explain the leveling system and force us make a custom class. For extra good measure, recommend EVERY class take sneak, security, and athletics. That way you're passively contributing to your character level no matter what you're doing.

I wonder how they will handle the DLCs. Hopefully they fix things to where you receive the correct equipment for your level, rather than setting the equipment level based on your level when the DLC was installed. If the DLCs are all part of the game from level 1, you’ll be stuck with the weakest version of all DLC weapons.

I supported Bethesda in changing engines until the BS with Unity went down. With large games, it can be risky for a company to be at the whim of another, so I understand why keeping things in-house makes sense.

Why do people are about a remaster if there is its not like it's gonna come out anytime soon they they showed us elder scrolls 6 5 years ago and look were still years out lol

The engine is aging when compared to audience expectations, but it is the studio that I worry about. The writing and many of the design elements are falling off and games are feeling derivative when compared to older titles. In the specific example of Oblivion, I think a core element that will be lost was the AI system they were trying to develop that they neutered for Skyrim. It smoothed out the jank but at the expense of the Oblivion feel.

@@AnnaDolphin97 Yeah ur right in the fact that I dont know MUCH about engines. Dabbled here and there with modding and making stuff on Unreal Engine 4 back in the day but I dont know much aside from what ive read/researched. What I mean is that Unreal Engine 5 has the capability to make beautiful games, not saying the creation engine doesnt. But ive been impressed by most (not all) of what ive seen from UE5 games (Wukong, Senuas 2, Etc) compared to what I saw in Starfield for example. Granted, Oblivion is a much larger scaled game than those UE5 ones i mentioned, so we will have to see when its revealed what it looks like! Appreciate you watching the video!!

Depending on how good and well received this game ends up being this can very well be another obsidian situation lol. If they end up making it better than the original, this will be one of bethesda's biggest L's that will haunt them lol. Especially if the rumors are true and they pull it off on ue5? And it ends up being a graphical spectacle, better looking than Elder Scrolls 6 that's being made on the outdated creation engine? 😬
