Installation
------------
Find the folder where Oblivion is installed.
Copy the MP3 files to the appropriate subfolder under \Oblivion\Data\Music.
Note: If you have an older version of this mod, overwrite the old files and
delete the old "[Public] Tales and Tidings 2.mp3".
Production notes
----------------
These pieces were composed and released for the mod between 2007 and 2012, in the order
listed. Some are based on themes or ideas from game's original soundtrack by Jeremy Soule.
"Heartland Vista" is based on "Wings of Kynareth" (atmosphere_07.mp3)
"Legion's Rally" is constructed around a repeating bass line from the game
intro "Reign of the Septims"
"Emerald Paradise" is based on "King and Country" (atmosphere_08.mp3)
"Light from the Shadows" uses a theme from the intro as a counter melody
"Tales and Tidings" is a variation on the Elder Scrolls theme
Some borrow from other sources:
"The Forgotten Age" is based on "Recovery" from the Conan the Barbarian film soundtrack
by Basil Poledouris.
"Turn of the Tide" is based on "Lighting of the Beacons" from The Return of the King
film soundtrack by Howard Shore.
"Dawn Reflection" is based on "Daybreak" from Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe Suite No.2.
For Oblivion's 10th anniversary, I've cleaned up several of the tracks and replaced a few
parts with newer instruments. The oldest two were quite rough so they show the most
improvement.
Another reason for a definitive re-release is that the software used to create the
music is rapidly deteriorating, and it's very difficult to assemble the fragile set of
synths and data that can play everything. I was surprised at how much was already
broken and needed repairs to re-create the previous versions. But thank the Nine
Divines, I had just enough saved to patch things up one last time.
All tracks have been re-rendered at maximum quality. The MP3 files in this mod package
use a better encoder than before, but for purists or anyone using the music for some other
project, the raw versions are available in 24-bit from SoundCloud.
