I remember asking for this game on the 360 when I was a wee lad because I (stupidly) thought that this was gonna be like Call of Duty, but more grounded and focused on actively teaching the player about the pacific theatre of WW2, which was a pretty rare setting for WW2 shows/movie/games at the time. One of the sergeants screaming at the top of their lungs "YOU WILL FOLLOW ME AND THIS IS AN ORDER!" constantly on loop the picosecond I stepped 5 feet away from their clapping ass cheeks is when I realized what I got myself into.

The PS2 version of this game was totally different. The single player campaign had no AI squad teammates or friendly soldiers, only in a few cutscenes but never seen in gameplay. Every mission was some kind of solo infiltration or sabotage. And every level had the same damn "Basic somber WWII documentary music" song playing on a loop.

I was wondering why all of this felt so familiar until I noticed it: This is uses the same assets as Soldier of Fortune: Payback did. The "ironsight" aiming is the same as are the animations for the 1911 and the HUD elements. Sound effects are reused. It shares a lot of sound effects (and maybe more) with Operation Flashpoint as well. Man Bohemia Interactive really made the most of their pre-made assets.
@christopherregan1654

Actually this game was technically developed by a studio called Cauldron, which was from Bratislava, Slovakia. Also, yes, they basically reused the same game engine and all its assets when they pumped out their titles. There's even a letter from Col. Hargrove where he says you "have to empty your Garand before reloading it." The first game where being able to actually reload in this way that struck me was CoD WaW. This game was entirely different on the PS2. It had a whole different story line where you were going on solo missions and was honestly less janky somehow. The gunplay was abysmal and the enemies were bullet sponges, but they at least would not ragdoll everywhere. It looked worse graphically though, obviously. Also, am I the only one who noticed that the US soldier models look very similar to the ones in Call of Duty 3? I think they were ripped from that game - they literally still have the 29th Infantry Division arm patches (which is a division that did not fight in the Pacific).

It was pretty smart for the History Channel to try and diversify into new markets by making video games, they saw the potential and went for it. A shame the execution was really not good. I remember playing their Rome game on PS2 and it was underwhelming to say the least. With hindsight it would have made sense to simply team up with other gaming studios like Creative Assembly than try and develope their own studio.

Oh man, this video was such a blast from the past. This was my very first fps game I ever played, I got this game for Christmas along with my ps3 In 2011 when it first came out. I remember how awesome the explosions where and how much I loved mowing down people with the Thompson. I remember my dad trying to switch it to 3rd person because he was confused why only the hand and the gun popped up. I had to explain what first person was to him 😂 so many hours sitting in front of that “flat screen” kinda makes me wanna replay it

The original version of the M1 garand did not allow the clip to be ejected until it was empty but the second model they added that feature to the weapon. So it’s accurate to have it either way.

Watching these videos have reminded me of a game I played years ago. I rember the game being really fun and shit at the same time. It's called "The History Channel: Great Battles of Middle Ages", seems like something you may enjoy.

Unless there's something unusual about my '43 Springfield Armory model M1, then it is absolutely possible to reload a Garand before you're out of ammunition. You can either eject the clip with the huge button on the side and then insert a fresh one, or you can single load rounds into the top with little more force than it takes to press the clip into the magazine to begin with.

Subbed because of this video. Never saw your channel before. Epic. I am not sure what scares me more, that KZbin decided this would be a good watch for me based on my trends or that the KZbin algorithm decided to promote this out of all your other content... I mean, History Channel.

Can’t get enough of this History Channel’s Battle for the Pacific. I expect more for History Channel’s Battle for the Pacific. Classic History Channel Battle of the Pacific blunders…. I may have made the last one up. Who can tell when playing History Channel’s Battle for the Pacific l

Fun fact: the M1 Garand had a small button or lever or something (I can't remember because my memory sucks with tiny details like that) that allowed the user the force the clip out to reload without having to fire all 8 rounds
