I think the game had some neat concepts. For example, they have names for every npc, even the garbage fodder ones. It's basically the failed version of Spec Ops: The Line, similar idea but Haze lacked the writing and design to make it work. Like Spec Ops: The Line worked because they managed to incorporate both gameplay and the general design of the game into the plot, with it being set in the destroyed ruins of a decadent metropolis where the catastrophe have made the underlying corruption come up to the surface.

reading a synopsis of the plot, it does sound kinda interesting in the sense of tackling the exploitation of young men in the name of war, propaganda and its uses in establishing false precedents for geopolitical objectives, the broken foreign intervention policies of the early 0ds, and the repetitive cycles of violence that often emerge from these conflicts. i think it either needed a tighter script or to really lean into its ideas more heavily, cause from the sounds of it a lot of the ingredients are certainly there for an interesting story.

Love how you’re making me realize that all these games I used to enjoy so much are just some weird poorly developed concepts lol (apart from singularity which was actually amazing) you should try playing Fractured next, that one really stood out for me, hope it still holds up today.

Man, this brings me back. I remember this being my first ever FPS that my cousin had. It was so cool and I thought it was so hardcore. It was only 5 years later when I visited him again that I realized how wrong I was.

I have a visceral memory of when my local blockbuster closed and they were liquidating everything. Towards the end, there were like entire aisles of the game section that were nothing but Haze and I always wondered why. Now I know.

My favorite part was when Haze said it’s Hazin and Hazed all over the place.
