You know, I remember there was a supplementary website for this game (it's been long since taken down), taking the form of the in universe bad guy's company's blog which had some pretty major piss-takes against AAA treatment of overworking and underpaying game developers, long before said practices became part of the standard public discourse about AAA game companies. I rented this game through gamefly back in 09, and it felt like it was designed to be a rental game that you beat in like 2-3 nights. I enjoyed it though, even if it was a lil cringe, it was maybe a tad less cringe back in 09, or maybe I just liked it cuz I was 15 and played every other shooter at the time and I appreciated the parody aspect of it.

Okay, this is probably the only example where I can sincerely say that the spoof demo for Bulletstorm did it better, and not in small part due to the fact that it was just like two minutes long. I mean, I'll freely admit that I like tongue-in-cheek humor on occasion, but that's gotta be one of the most dangerous subgenres there is. Either you land the jokes and get a chuckle from the audience or you really, _really_ fuck it up. There is no in between. See also: the different Borderlands games; Conker's Bad Fur Day; the Saints Row series; Psychonauts. (not saying which are good or bad examples, point is if you know which are bad, you _really_ notice it, right?)
