There is so much incredible stuff in this game that I couldn't cram it all into one video, it truly has to be played to be believed. Find a copy of this and give it a try, if you enjoy overly ambitious games that fail spectacularly at everything they attempt then you will love it.

Reminds me of MGS3 snake eater. Game had that cool first aid system we never saw again. The camo system, and basically sandbox creativity in progression. Tbf to it, its widely regarded as one of the best in the series. But mechanics like it has, and this game has, were ahead of their time. They just sadly were too early and unable to be implemented in ways that were slightly inconvenient or janky.
@GrumpyMunkyGameDesign
@GrumpyMunkyGameDesign Жыл бұрын
As a Dev who is constantly getting side tracked by 'adding another cool mechanic'. Please, Dont think like this. It's Called 'Feature Creep' and it kills games, Duke Nukem Forever being the most obvious example. Features alone dont make good games, good solid core mechanics do. An Overload of pointless mechanics for the sake of being showy kills a game, this game being a prime example, the inventory system being a 3d coat looks cool, but it makes it super awkward to do what you need to get done, now take resident evils inventory system, not as flashy but it doesnt get in the way either and you spend a lot less time fumbling around and more time in the action or core gameplay loop because you spend less time in menus. The phrase 'Less is More' Should be at the forefront of your mind. Dont think 'What cool mechanic can i add to show off my dev skills' rather think 'what can I add to make the players life: Easier, More fun, More Streamlined and More Immersive' add a mechanic to emphasize those aspects, dont add it just because you think its cool. Because then your creating a mechanic and looking for a way to fit it into the game loop, what you should be doing is looking for parts of the established game loop that lack something and filling those holes instead. by all means have a large pool of mechanics, I love me some Elite Dangerous and thats complicated and crammed with mechanics to the point of annoyance, BUT none of those mechanics are unnceccesary. Requesting Docking Permission, Engaging and disengaging clamps, managing energy distribution in combat, upgrades, mining those upgrades, the planetary landing mechanics to get down to said planet to mine said upgrades, all are NECCESSARY for the game loop and immersive experience the game seeks to achieve, never include UNNECCESSARY mechanics, as they only serve to frustrate the player when they realise what they are doing is pointless and serves no purpose they will question why they are being asked to do it in the first place. Its a mistake you see a lot of young devs, espescially roblox and minecraft map makers who think, 'wow it be cool to add rocket launchers, jet packs, invisibility cloaks and machineguns' without really thinking too hard about how that affects both the balance and flow of the game. Mechanics should only ever be added if they compliment the existing game loop and provide for new strategies and deeper gameplay experience within the exisiting framework. You Wouldnt give everyone in a COD Death Match a Nuke, everyone would fire it immediately and the game would end, sounds good on paper making everyone OP as fuck, but when you come to actually play it its a 1 second match that offers zero satisfaction. Same thing with tactical strategy games like Rainbow 6, they COULD allow you fly a reaper drone over, map the site, pick out entry points, position a handpicked team member at each entrance, decide how each one will enter, be it via window or door, how they would breach, what weapon they will carry, wether they have night vision or thermal, what specific rounds they have in the magazines, how many magazines they have, Im sure u can see just reading this is boring and thats exactly how the player will feel having to trawl through all that because all those menu things are a direct barrier between them and the game, where as RB6:Siege has minimal set up and then you PLAY the intel phase, you manually explore, send drones and control them, set up snipers, etc, the difference between the two types of mechanic is PLAYER ENGAGEMENT, when theyre sifting through menus and selecting this and that and choosing what colour underpants their operative is wearing they arent PLAYING the game, when the round starts thats when play starts, so dont include things that act as a barrier to gameplay, (the aforementioned menu stuff) and instead add things that accentuate the gameplay (the aforementioned drones, scouting, etc) things that give the player agency. Balance, Balance and Balance some more, every mechanic should exist for a specific reason and if that reason isnt really justified, Bin it. Hack it out with a machete, get rid of it, Poorly implemented ill thought out mechanics crammed in for the sake of it are the cancer of games, just ask EA😉😂

@@TaylorWilmes Uh, TLDR don't get distracted by adding more and more features onto your game. Don't add in whatever just because it'd be interesting, just add what you need to and what you're capable of and then move onto actually making the game. You can worry about new and interesting features in the next game you'd make when you have a more solid idea on how to implement them.

I just realised that this game might've actually be an old build of Test Drive Unlimited 2: - It's Open World - The hud is sleak, with brown and orange colours - Hemi Head Font (the font that Dodge use to have for their logo) - Phone lets you input individual numbers into the dial, has an email messenger and shows the name and picture of the owner - First Person camera mode - Almost all of the interior of a car is interactable - Minimap has car icons and an orange dot to find your next objective - Made by same developer (Eden Games) Edit: On second thought, they more likely just took assets from TDU2

Everything about this game sounds good on paper, nothing (literally nothing) actually works in execution though. It's so laughably bad in every conceivable way, from the horrendous fixed camera angles, to the tank controls, the unclear button prompts, the stupid inventory navigation and the disgusting graphics. But by God is it fun to fuck around in.

1:32 it was supposed to be sold as episodes, that's why there are credits in the middle of the game, cliffhangers and so on. Episodic format was considered at some point by many editors but it never took off.

There hit a point in games where there are B-Games (Like movies that Movie Dumpster talks about) this is one of those, "it's a fun experience but definitely top of the Dumpster for me" games

Boost-up gameplay, just like the last of us. Spending your potential medical supplies instead on a fire attack, just like last of us. (Alcohol+rags makes medkit or molotov) Checking otherwise pointless small containers like glove boxes for a pittance of bullets? Forklift gameplay? All Joel does is play forklift and move pallets. I think it's all but confirmed, this game is Last of Us 0.5 Or, the second-to-last of us, if you will.

I was recently playing the evil within, and realized how weirdly similar both evil within and this game are, both games have a sequence in which protagonist escapes from an exploding city in a car, and in both game you need to kill enemies with fire

I actually got this on pc recently because I always was intrigued by its mechanics. I had not really played many alone in the dark games, but I've watched more than a handful of video's on the franchise over the years. I've played some of a new nightmare, and I've got the original trilogy to get through aswell. I've played it for a few hours and it's a mixed back for me. It has some really cool ideas but for me its just jank..... bad jank not that good kind of jank. It tries to do everything all at once and it just feels horrible. But there is a small part of me that wants to like it.

This is a great game. Ambitious is the only word I could use. Story is a little lame, but they have you doing so much more than you'd expect from it. I like the inventory system and combining different things. Would love a game made in its vein. Spiritual successor when??

This game was janky, but I loved it in spite of that! It had some really innovative concepts. Though it didn't always stick the landing, it was still a unique and enjoyable experience. Ocassionally I was laughing at the game, but most of the time I was genuinely having a great time with it

I love this game. The mechanics work well enough once you get a hang of things. Most enemies can be cheesed with an aerosol can and lighter, lol. The bugs and ragdoll effects make for some truly lol moments. More people should give it a try.
