Like the bones and the concepts are great, but there's a logic or there needs to be a logic to how they're implemented.. and that needs to be conveyed to the player clearly.. like you can have convoluted nonsense mechanics for maze games but.. The way that works is there's a logic to how the mechanics incorporate, and the maze reflects that beyond just a series of corridors and passwords with locked rooms.. something that people that like this design don't seem to get.. and it's something that people that don't like this design also don't seem to comprehend either going the complete other direction and a blandness.. hopefully that ends up being your thing but you know..
