(A gracious acknowledgement to the sound crew, before History is made.) If this is not the greatest unaccompanied Blues guitar performance of all time, it is certainly among the Top Two. (I can't begin to guess what the other one might be, but I'm trying to be non-hyperbolic.) It starts in E, which makes perfect sense, as that key affords lots of open strings... ...and then after a dozen or so faultless and varied choruses, he does the (except for him) unthinkable: He alters the breakneck tempo to a John Lee Hooker groove, and then, at 4:59, he begins to ascend, one 12-bar chorus at a time, through the other 11 keys in our Western Harmonic System... sometimes, open strings are still available, more often, they are not, and does Tommy care? This is Tommy... He doesn't have a care in the world. And he finishes with a couple of choruses back in the original key, at twice the tempo with which he started this off-the-cuff Blessing for those of us with ears to hear it. Listening to music, at its best, should ennoble the listener: In this performance, certainly, Mission Accomplished.

I completely agree... Bad choice of words, I should have said "seemingly effortless." He has the rare gift of being able to do the apparently impossible on the instrument, without (in his presentation) working "too hard..." ...as the Hard Work went into the thousands of hours of practice that got him to this point.

In many ways, this is the best angle to watch Tommy play from. It shows just how gifted he his and how much he has worked to improve his God-given abilities. First, his hands are HUGE ! He seldom puts his thumb behind the neck to reach a string or execute a chord shape. Secondly, this also means that his hands are very strong, as he doesn't need the thumb's leverage. Third, this shows how very nimble his fingers are, not needing the thumb to give him room to navigate the fretboard. 🤯🤯🤯

Because Tommy was very talented back to his childhood. Every guitarist is on a different level from Tommy...they are all subordinate. Only Chet Atkins could have cut heads with Tommy but Tommy idolized Chet, didn't he?
@punishr366 жыл бұрын
@@DennisDaNo1Man Yes he did but he surpassed Chet's ability and Chet even stated that many times. Stevie Was a great blues player on electric and surely wrote great music and also sang fantastically. As an accomplished guitarist myself ( not like these guys ) I can say with confidence that Tommy's skills surpass SRV by leaps and bounds and unless you're a guitarist it's hard to grasp some of the extremely complex things he does and there is so so much. But if SRV was alive I'm sure they would enjoy and appreciate each others love to play.
@johnzaikowski31345 жыл бұрын
no comparison between the two greats...Stevie was a master in his particular genre ,....Mainly because everything he did came from his soul. he was one with his music.. which was limited to the blues..masterful...but if you took Stevie out of that music idiom he would probably be lost,( maybe) whereas if you take Tommy's abilities, I feel he would have absolutely no issue fitting into any musical genre.. which in my mind, makes him a genius. Love them both.
@johnzaikowski31345 жыл бұрын
Stevie wouldn't be able to keep up with Tommie. from what i know of Tommie, he would probably work out something with Stevie that was more in line with his music...not the other way around...I'm sure it would sound great!
