Looks good, body work is one of those skills that's acquired over time with experience. Even with schooling it still an art that you can only learn by doing. You look at about where I was when I was getting started. For mine I'm just going to cut and weld in a patch for the whole wheel well arch, in my experience even when grinding down the rust it still returns. The backing method works, but if you get any moisture from behind you'll run into trouble. Also I'd recommend looking into sanding/blending techniques with a long block if you end up doing any extensive repairs- you sand in a X pattern to blend the panel, then spot putty, filler primer, primer sealer, then paint- progressively sanding each layer working from coarse to light grit. The end result will be invisible to the eye. Just thought I'd share some tips I've learned through the years from someone with the same project. in the end good work, glad to see there's still people out there willing to put effort into older vehicles, we're becoming a dying breed.
@ydocproductions55933 жыл бұрын
Those are all really great tips Nicholas, thank you! Looking back I wish I cut out the whole wheel well arch and replaced it as one big section. Blending in the panels is something I’d like to try again in the future. It didn’t come out looking perfect, but I was pretty happy for a first timer. Thanks for watching😀👍

Mighty fine job my friend! 😀 We all have to start somewhere when doing body work. The key is to not hate it. Almost everyone I know despises body work the most. I don't mind it one bit. Wiring on the other hand ..🤬🥴 lol. Great job buddy. You done a fantastic job with the sanding as well. Got that body line lookin good! I almost cried when I seen you grab the red spot putty! 😢🤣. Believe me, I done the same once! It's soo much worse having to scrape it off. Thanks for the shout out Cody! 🙂❤ Talk to you later!

Thanks so much Zane! Your 110% right. We all have to start somewhere and I started at the very very bottom🤣. I know exactly what you’re talking about on how people could hate bodywork. I came this close🤏 to hating it myself😂. That being said it’s a really rewarding feeling to be all finished, and the experience I gained darn near priceless! Happy to give your channel a shoutout Zane! You and the guys have done so much for mine, and I truly appreciate it! Take care man🤙

@Bret42073 жыл бұрын
I learned body work from my father in law who started back in the days of lead soldering, pre-bondo! You have to start someplace and you've done better than most. Sure wish we'd had MIG welders back in the 70's! We used to have to braze everything and the metal distorted no mater what you did. Good on you kiddo! What did you do with the inner fender you cut away?
@ydocproductions55933 жыл бұрын
I can’t even imagine how hard it would be to lead solder instead of bond-o. That sounds like a ton more work! I couldn’t be happier with how this little $100 harbor freight flux core welder preformed. This is the second time it’s been used on sheet metal it wasn’t designed to weld, and it simply gets the job done. As far as the inner fender I painted it with rust reformer paint to keep rust away for the rest of the trucks’ life. I also left the inner fender the way you saw it on camera. That way rust dirt and grime won’t be able to build up again like it did in the past.

Looks like it turned out pretty darn good!! I would have bought a patch panel from like LMCTruck for $40... Cut it out, welded it in.. perfect body line..but looks like it turned out great! Curious how that spray can rustoluem paint will hold up.. I know..I know..trying to do it on the cheap side of things.. Looks like it turned out well!! Get yourself a can of spray undercoating and coat the crap out of it with it lol.. nice job! 👌
@ydocproductions55933 жыл бұрын
I know you’ve done a ton of stuff like this, so it really means a lot that you think I did a good job😀👍! Buying a piece of sheet metal that already had the existing body lines would’ve probably saved a ton of time, and hearing you say it only would’ve cost me $40... Looking back I should’ve done exactly that🤦🏼♂️🤣! I think the rattle can paint will hold up well since I put several coats on, but of course time will tell. Plus I’m looking forward to undercoating the the truck cause I really think it will give it a clean look. Thanks for watching Jon!
@audimaster50003 жыл бұрын
@@ydocproductions5593 I did a similar repair to my truck 10 years ago. The biggest regret is not using a proper primer and automotive paint. 2 part Urethane or epoxy primers and paint is pricey and toxic as hell but it’s worth it if you made it this far- especially seeing you’re resourceful and ambitious enough to do the repair with a flux core mig process and you’re own patches. Good work! Another place to check is the front rubber cowl drain duckbills in front of the floor panels. You can flush em out with water from the top where the wiper blade mechanisms are. And the metal where the lower door seal sits on the cab is a bitch too. And the radiator support….and so on. Lolz. Don’t ya hate rust!
@ydocproductions55933 жыл бұрын
@@audimaster5000 Thank you for the kind words I appreciate it! It definitely was a massive undertaking, but I’m really happy with how it turned out.
