The Anne Frank anime isn't as weird with context. Nippon animation had a very popular series called World Masterpiece Theatre where every year they would adapt a classic novel into a 50 episode anime. Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata of future Ghibli fame worked on several entries most notably Heidi Girl of the Alps and Anne of Green Gables. At the same time, the popularity of these series led to other studios trying to adapt novels like Madhouse's adaptations of Nobody's Boy Remi and Treasure Island. This is why there's like 3 different anime adaptations of the book/play Little Women. Finding out they made a TV special of Anne Frank actually seems very much in their wheelhouse.
@mightyfilm4 ай бұрын
We all should be glad they didn't make Anne Frank's story into one of those gaudy, poorly animated and designed "Funky Fables." I forget what the Japanese language name for those shorts were, but they were awful. I saw their attempt at A Christmas Carol and it was easily the dumbest and worst adaption of that story ever. Saban's gag dub didn't help. Also, a Japanese game company turned Les Misérables into a dopey Street Fighter clone, so...yeah. They can do SOOOOO much worse with literature than a respectful, tasteful adaption like this was.

@thedrewster04084 ай бұрын
What’s funny about the movie “Age of Peace” is that the soundtrack is fully available on Spotify yet the full movie is still not available to view on either online platforms or on physical media. For being a “sports” movie with a Sci-Fi theme, that’s like if Space Jam had its soundtrack readily available but the movie is nowhere to be found or properly archived. Although the best part about the movie, outside of the great 2D animation of the Looney Tunes characters, was the soundtrack for the movie.

Anne frank was adapted twice into anime once in the 1960s and once in the 2000s as an OVA. It did not garner viewers as expected. The problem is the 1960s were a time of big change in Japan as the Economic miracle got underway. They really didn’t want to see the dark shadows of the war they participated in. The Anne frank OVA was released in the early 2000s but its sales numbers weren’t really good as the animation company butchered the original writings. The book however is still a best seller in Japan as it still is required reading in school. The modern US movie adaptation was a middle of the road success and it opened a lot of eyes.

Hi! Couple corrections about Age of Peace, there's a photobook, a CD booklet and a flyer. There are no confirmed scans of the photobook yet, some can be found in a BiliBili article, but it's only assumption. We're not sure of what's in the cd booklet either, but I know of someone with a copy so maybe I can ask them for some scans. The picture shown in the video when tallking about the photobook is assumed to be a flyer distributed to promote the movie. More information can be seen in a Google Doc on the Age of Peace subreddit; the flyer has been fully translated. There also seems to be someone with a copy of the script, but they haven't released it to the public cause they've been translating it, and their health is in very bad shape at the moment, so releasing the script, translated or not, is probably and unfortunately not their main priority at this moment.

I love modern lost media stuff, but I have such a deep need for the early feature length animated films that have been lost to time, films like 1917s El Apostle or 1916s Creation. Sadly as interesting as those two are to me, we're almost definitely never going to see either ever again, even though they're the very first animated feature length films*, and set the stage for so many amazing pieces of animations we've had ever since. (*Disney claims that's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but Snow White isn't even the oldest surviving animated feature film, that nod goes to The Adventures of Prince Ahmed, in 1926, 11 years earlier than Snow White. Hell, Snow White wasn't even the first animated feature film made in the USA, that goes to the aforementioned 1916's Creation, which is also actually the oldest animated feature film, as far as we know.)

I know of some other K-Pop lost media, especially an album. Back in 2009, Will.I.Am reached out to the new group at that time, 2NE1 (they did a lot of covers of The Black Eye Peas and Fergie songs pre-debut) and he even sent them a video, which YG Entertainment had on their channel before removing it sometime ago. Then in 2010, while in LA, 2NE1’s web show, 2NE1TV showed them in Will.I.Am’s studio, recording songs (and they did feature on his 2013 album, though only CL and Park Bom were featured, Dara and Minzy oddly not featured), so I definitely think an album was made. I thought it was maybe cancelled by whoever would publish it in the states, but I actually think it was YG themselves who pulled it (especially after CL’s solo work after her English debut single flopped was pulled). It’s sad, because if they would have came out, I definitely think BTS and sister group BlackPink wouldn’t be seen as the pioneers of K-pop reaching the west (which they aren’t, Wonder Girls did that back in 2009, the first k-pop group to chart on the Billboard Top 100). And speaking of CL, she actually has a lost video she gave a sneak peak of back in 2018 called All In (which was supposed to be released in 2017). It looks so cool and the song sounded amazing, but after lifted (I assume) failed to create buzz around CL’s English debut, they canned it. It’s so sad and wish the MV was fully released.
@flowerzforsaturnАй бұрын
Bts are seen as pioneers because they were successful in getting the west attention, there were groups that promoted in the US before but didn’t have nearly the same reaction as bts. I definitely think companies were too scared to fully promote their groups after seeing what happened with Wonder Girls. It really is a shame that companies didn’t have faith but at the same time I don’t think Westerners were ready for kpop in the early 2000s. Even when Gangnam Style came out, despite it being successful people didn’t take the song seriously and even Psy said he was disappointed it was his only US hit.

universal studios had a vault fire in 2008, 118,000 to 175,000 audio master tapes and a massive amount of music was lost, so any lost media that was in the vault when that fire happened means it will be lost forever, and it's most likely that cut scenes from universal studios movies were also lost in that fire

Good Lord the thumbnail of this video is how I developed nightmares as a kid. Wide eyes, Wide Smile....Yeah, that checks it off.

Spitting Image & Kelsey Grammer mentioned in the same lost media video? Sometimes i wonder if the world really DOES revolve around me. (For context, Genesis, the band that the Spitting Image team made a music video for, are my favorite band & Frasier, the show that Kelsey Grammer is most famous for starring in, is my favorite live action television series.)

When will people finally understand that there is a HUGE difference between accusations and guilt. Our justice system is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law

8:59 it's too bad Thatcher world is lost i love the stuff from Spitting Image i fell into a bunch of it on KZbin between 2020 and 2022 a little bit before their revival. but when they were trying to get everything on Britbox and direct people there, they deleted pretty much all traces of the show here on KZbin except the newer episodes. full eps, ep clips and all the various songs got deleted. i did see a season or two on archive maybe a few months ago, but since going back to check on them, they got found out a ZAPPPED out of existence as well.

I wouldn't say the first movie had nothing to do with the 2002 world cup merely because it was 2yrs before. The world cup only takes place every 4yrs, it obviously would have been known who was hosting it, the qualifiers would also have been taking place at that time as well. Seems reasonable that they were capitalising on the heightening excitement.

So do we know if the finished portion of the “first version” of HBO’s The Idol and the sixth episode considered lost? Speaking of I can’t believe the film “I Shot Andy Warhol” is considered lost due to licensing issues. I remember renting it on vhs several times in middle school in the early 2000s! It would be AWESOME if you did a video on that!

If you want to see some really obscure sh*t, you should check out the wacky world of eastern European animation. Krysar (1986) is the one I remember from way back.
