Another good slasher to recommend is Alone in the Dark with Jack Palance, Donald Pleasance, and Martin Landau. You can watch The Mutilator on Shudder and for free on the Tubi app.

The way you describe The Dorm That Dripped Blood sounds an awful lot like my all time favorite guilty pleasure film: Pieces. It came out the same year and has that Giallo heritage in it that is just fun to watch.

Shallow Grave. Rented it on VHS back in the 80s. About some guy in a Sheriff outfit stalking a group of friends. Creepy killer and some gruesome kills.

Very nice job on the video. I have to give The Mutilator another shot. I remember being disappointed in it because it had an interesting set-up (son accidentally kills mom and the dad wants to kill him) but it seemed they didn't do much with it. The grown up son aka the lead seemed as if him & his dad were cool (thus taking his friends up to his 'dad's place') even though the guy was ready to kill him as a kid, and I thought they would do some kind of 'last stand/mano a mano' between the dad & the son at the end...but they didn't really do anything with it. Thought it was a missed opportunity, but again maybe it's a flick I need to give another shot. Hmm...underrated/obscure slasher films? To name a few for me... *Fade to Black - to me, an underrated flick starring Dennis Christopher as a guy who is a film buff and loves older movies, but he gets picked on all the time until he has had enough. So he goes out, pretending to be various film characters (including Dracula in an ode to the Psycho shower scene, a mummy, a gangster, etc.) to kill/get his revenge. Features an early role by Mickey Rourke. Solid flick and a great performance by Dennis Christopher. *Murder By Phone - fun to me based on the premise/the way the killer does his business. He uses a phone line so that when you pick up the phone, he sends some kind of electrical pulse that makes your eyes bleed, electrocutes you, and creates an explosion. Including at one point blowing a guy through his office and out the window of a building. It stars Richard Chamberlain. Many would call it slow (and yeah, it's silly) but I still rather enjoyed it. *Amsterdamned - loved the premise of a killer doing his deeds among the canals, using a diving suit, and it features some really stand-out sequences for a slasher flick. Including a boat chase which would fit well in a James Bond flick.

A showdown between the father and son at the end of The Mutilator would have been cool. A real knock-down-drag-out kinda thing would have been interesting. I actually just re-watched Fade to Black for the first time in years just a few weeks ago. It slipped my mind, however. I haven't seen Amersterdamned, but I'm hoping to snag the upcoming Blue Underground Blu-ray.
