I think as Shia Muslims we have to be extremely careful with following the culture of “celebrities”. We don’t need anymore boasting in our community. Human beings already love attention. There is nothing wrong with looking up to someone or mentoring people but we should be careful with using these words.

We need to differentiate between the message and the messenger. We have poets that have a great message and beautiful voice but if we want to "idolize" them, we should do that by looking up to their talents and abilities and aim to follow them AND strive to be better than them; we have lecturers and scholars that have levels of knowledge and insight and the ability to speak in public but if we want to "idolize" them, we should do that by working to become even more knowledgeable than them and hone our skills of public speaking to convey the message. Many times I have seen Shia youth run after the reciters of nawha/latmiyya and orators, seeking selfies, autographs, etc. and whereas it is great that the Shia youth admire such people, however the danger lies that when such reciters of nawha or those who ascend the mimbar "fall", the same youth that idolized them also have the potential to take a spiritual fall.

This was the first podcast I listened to. Frankly I feel that looking up to you guys reminds us all of our faith. Be it Nakshawini, Ali Fadil or anyone else you are all big in our eyes for the service that you all do Mash'Allah. Ali Radhawi you have influenced me to go to Kingsbury just to bump into you. Keep up the Nohas and the insightful shows. Ya ALI!

Only among the some of the youth or immature part of the community who can't see we have much better role models like in our faith. There are part of our community who admire our marja more than these so called celebrities
