i’ve had ocpd for as long as i can remember, after i got diagnosed and researched more into it, i realised that it was the first mental illness i ever presented. I was always controlling of how i wanted things to be and got extremely emotional when they didn’t go the way i wanted them too, even as young as 5 years old. I would start planning things months before they would happen just so i would have time to go over every possible way they could go “wrong” and ways i could counter it. It was never really destructive to my everyday life until i got into primary school and started doings things like group assignments, where other people would constantly let me down so i would often just volunteer to do the whole thing myself so that it would be up to my standard. I slowly developed different obsessions and compulsions over the years, the way the dishwasher was stacked, the order in which i put my school uniform on, and other everyday activities. I would become “irrationally” upset when my compulsion was interrupted or wasn’t done the “correct” way, i was so obsessed that i would start the whole thing over, no matter how long it took me. I was known to completely unstack the dishwasher before it was put on to wash if the dishes weren’t rinsed and stacked properly, or throw out a piece of toast and make a new one if the bread went into the toaster the wrong way. When i was 16 it became completely life ruining and would take up hours of my day, each day. I would spend 30 minutes doing my hair, a total of an hour doing compulsions with my hands, etc. My mum finally took me to see a psychiatrist who diagnosed me with anxiety and ocpd with ocd tendencies, and put me on antidepressants. It immediately helped and seeing her regularly to work on making my obsessions and compulsions less severe really helped. It’s not been the easiest on my relationships with other people though, my ocpd has always put a serious strain on my relationships with my mum and my older sister, because they never understood why i was like this, and still sometimes says it’s irrational and i should just ignore it, but i can’t. It’s very hard for people surrounding someone with ocpd, as well as the person suffering from ocpd

When I was in school, I liked working solo, even if it’s a project but I don’t want to present by myself, that’s the only that I’ll be an extrovert, I ain’t standing in front of the class by self and speaking 😂. But anyway, yeah... they think having no friends is bad, I have some friends though but don’t talk a lot. Hell, I have a friend that still hasn’t text me back, anyway 🤷‍♂️ been like 3 days so far. First, I asked/text “Happy Birthday” and “What did you do for your birthday?” No reply back 🤷‍♂️, she wanted to hang out and I agreed (Never happened, even though I told her I’m free Monday, but I guess she really wanted it to be Saturday since she asked if I’m free Saturday. It’s because my off days are Monday and Tuesday). Back when I was in 7th grade, but I was at home, my apartment building, some little punk ass kid that went to the same Middle School as me, told some other kids in front of me (but up stairs with him) that I was a loner, like it’s a problem... he said “He is a loner”.

I think I had OCPD. This made me think of a past relationship. People who have OCPD are on a journey of perfection but know they have some issues and narcissist think they already are perfect and if they're not then nobody should think it. I think I was like that (OCPD) because I wanted to be a dad someday and I felt like I needed to do it for my family.

I had this all my life and never knew it transparently affected huge decisions. I finally got treated for it with basic anti depressants and also much better being conscious of it. It is absolutely a curse and a blessing but I would be careful with that thought, any hard work and obsess of perfection in achieving is done in utmost pain, through compulsive decisions (quitting school getting a job to accomplish xyz project for example, like I did). But you get there, we get it done. I am willing to bet that many famous extremely hard working artists have this as well.

Oh, this will be useful to me! I like a friend with OCPD, but she's a great person. She has been going to therapy for several years, so now she deals with it better, but sometimes problems may arise. However she's very comprensive with me, as a person with Asperger characteristics, and we have fun together most of the time. I'm so grateful to her, and I would like to be in a relationship with her and support her more, just as she supports me n_n Can you make next a video about Asperger and relationships? Videos like this would be indeed useful to people who have someone with a psychologically complex situation as their partner, and who want to understand them and support them better.

Can you do a video on “magical thinking” OCD - there is little to no information on this, except things that REALLY minimise what it is ie thinking you will have 7 years bad luck if you break a mirror. My diagnosis came from much more traumatic examples one example being I blame myself for someone else’s harm because I stood up for myself I wasn’t given any information and was left with google & that made me feel really pathetic and mimimised genuine trauma and worries.
@Synfulz.
@Synfulz. 2 жыл бұрын
surely its being superstitious i mean i dont step on 3 drains.. its just down to someones personal belief. i wouldn't let it consume you its quite normal for some of us to be this way it really doesn't effect every day life its not often we break mirrors... i never do :')
@UltimateVixxen
@UltimateVixxen 2 жыл бұрын
@@Synfulz. I agree. The only examples of this diagnosis really minimise the seriousness of the reality of it. I don’t really want to put my personal thinking out there because I will be mocked but I and others thought I may have schizophrenia because of the paranoid thinking and the extent of that. It’s SO much more than superstition. But there is so little information about it and how to deal with it. One example of something more serious is like I originally posted, something else happening because you did something wrong. A recent example being, I paid for private therapy to confirm a diagnosis(it’s usually free in the UK but I’m really not good and the waiting list is too long) it cost a lot of money for me. So now I’m having lots of money issues since then, plus my sons birthday coming up and today my cat was admitted to the vet. So I feel like I’m being punished for being selfish and paying for that appointment instead of waiting 2 years. Then there are silly things like hiding photos of people because you think they’re judging you. But then I also have things that could be argued to be just superstitious. For example, if someone in front of me in a queue buys a scratch card, I have to buy at least 2 of whatever they bought. If I don’t I feel like I’ve lost the winning ticket. I don’t even like to gamble!! I hope that makes a little more sense as to why it really belittles what it really is.

I was diagnosed with OCPD this week. Learning more about it and reassessing my life makes me think why did I not notice it? But at the same time, I have always just been trying to do my best. Any mistake could affect other people is some sort of way.... how can I not do it? I know I can a whole day in a 1 hour task but at least it is done properly.... It is hard trying to wrap my head around what is right and what may be a symptom of OCPD

Yeah, I was kind of hoping that this video was going to go into that instead of relationships (it would have helped if the word "relationship" was in the title ;) ). Don't get me wrong, the video's still useful. I just think that it's more useful for my spouse than it is for me.

As someone who is pretty sure they have O.C.P.D., I’m a bit disappointed from this video. Of course, it’s great to get some coverage on this seemingly unknown mental illness, but I feel this video doesn’t focus on the right parts of the disorder. I feel it should’ve covered O.C.P.D. from the person with the disorder’s perspective, instead of how it affects their possible partner. It also doesn’t seem to be filled with a lot of information on the different types of symptoms. But, however, you guys tried your best, so, I guess, thank you for the video, anyway.

Amazing video! ^^ Also, is it possible you could cover Functional Neurological Disorder? It's a phycological/neurological disorder I have, but it could be kind of interesting! It's often caused by anxiety, but sometimes it can just happen. Also, just in case, please don't address it as "Conversion Disorder". It's gained a bad name, and it's a bit offensive. It's just a suggestion, but there's no need to act on it! It's kind of hard to explain, but I really want it to be acknowledged more- It often causes a lot of physical symptoms (Paralysis, muscle pain, tics,) but can also be really phycological. It varies greatly from person to person, and is really hard to detect. Some of the symptoms I got were: Tics, Mild age regression, Mild OCD, Severe anxiety, and Depression. I really hope you make a video on it, but you don't have too! Have a nice day, Psych2Go! ^^

I’m not sure if I have OCD or OCPD, I’ve been trying to do research before talking with my parents. The big thing I’ve noticed is that with a lot of what I do (especially tests and homework and stuff) I feel the need to do it again and again, over and over because I think I’m doing it wrong and think that if I don’t do it better, I’ll fail. And if I can’t do it again, I get really anxious and scared and panic.

it took me a really long time to figure out this is my dad's biggest struggle in life. I'm glad to see it's getting more attention because it's relatively common for a personality disorder and sufferers are resistant to seeking help. it's easy for people to dismiss the behavior as abusive (it can be incredibly abusive) but these people really need help 🥺

And here I thought that stifling feeling I felt whenever I didn't see objects arranged by size, color, function, and other categories was normal. There are also times when I think other people are just too lax. "Why can't they do it my way? Is it not common sense to do something this way? I should just do it myself." So this was the reason. 😕

I always had this huge need to be the best at everything I do. Doesn't matter if it's a new thing or something I'm good at. I always had and wanted to be the number one. And if I wasn't I would feel awful, completely miserable, I`d literally hate myself and It would affect and bother me. It's really unhealthy and it's bothering me every day. Constantly comparing myself to everyone, It got to a point where I couldn't hang out with my best friend cause I thought she was prettier than me. I quit singing cause I thought people were better than me.....I kinda toned it down a bit now but still. I feel really disgusting about it, and i hate it but I`d do anything to fix it, and work on myself. Idk what caused this but my family and my childhood were pretty toxic and not healthy either, I was diagnosed with OCD and I was always a perfectionist. I acknowledge my problem, I know I have to stop it, but I just can't.

I'm not one who ever self-diagnoses himself. However, my whole family says I very much likely have it, and sent me this. I suck with "being there" for people around me. Lost many relationships due to "being demanding" at work. All I ask is for people to clean up after themselves. I stay quiet and never sit down when I'm working. I get nervous. To the point where I am always looking at a camera thinking my bosses are looking at me not doing anything.

Hello! Psych2Go! Sorry if I spelled that wrong- but can you maybe do a video about OTS (obsessive twiddling syndrome) or OTD (obsessive twiddling disorder) ?? If you try to look it up, most of the time it will show up as OCD, but I don’t think it’s OCD- I’ll explain what OTD and OTS is, it’s quite similar. Take your thumb and your pointer finger, rub them together. I do this a lot, but I normally run it in between satin, and other fabrics. I’ve been doing it maybe since I was born! It could possibly go throughout my whole life. I do it with almost any type of string that is the correct (type) of fabric.

@dutch970
@dutch970 Жыл бұрын
I’m no doctor but what I’ve realized is that OCPD really really centers around a need to be perfect. Of course everyone wants to be the best they can, but people with OCPD feel like they NEED to achieve whatever perfection is to them. This comes with a disregard to unhealthy behaviors that affect themselves and people around them. It’s literally an obsession with perfection. (fyi I have OCPD lol)

OCPD, the most insidious and underestimated of personality disorders. It pulls the strings of every moral crusader, diehard perfectionist, and unscrupulous manager. And the worst part of it all: they don’t know what they’re doing is problematic, to themselves or others. For all the hurt they bring, however, they are deeply damaged souls. By learning more about them, we get to better understand them and lessen their effect on us and themselves.
