tourmaline keeps you grounded and keeping negativity out... tourmaline feels much more gentle... obsidian cuts right to the point, heavy on shadow work almost like you are forced to look at your own negativity to get it out of your system, I find obsidian also a very protective aura sealer.

Black obsidian and black tourmaline are both powerful protection stones against negative,hexes, evil eye, energy vampires and toxic people. Black obsidian is like a shield... It blocks, prevents, deflects negative energies and keep it at bay. Black tourmaline is like a container or sponge...it absorbs and redirects/transmutes negative energies and reduce their impact on the wearer. Both can be charged in quick bursts of sunlight or semi shade area, or in moonlight overnight. Smudging with herbs and incense is the best way to cleanse it (frequently like every 2 weeks or so) Keep them away from alcohol, strong detergent and chemicals. Also keep them away from salt and getting wet by water.

I remember holding it while sleeping one time, and I woke up only because my black obsidian sphere in my hand felt like it was going to explode; it was so painful in my hand. I've been using it in meditations lately and use it for clearing.. I try and give it a salt bath everynight; it seems to like it's baths a lot lol. Everyday when I take it out of the water and rinse it off it feels like butter in my hands, compared to during my meditation when it feels like it's going to burst again.
