They are just different, depending on the healer and your preference. You might find one more protective than the other, while another healer might find the other more protective. If, in doubt, try them both out!

Hi Shiela, its me again, is obsidian like my rainbow obsidian can be used as jewelry everyday? My concern is that it is very soft unlike the black tourmaline or onyx. It is below 5 in Mohs scale. Any advice

Hi Marc, yes, you can wear it every day because it is pretty sturdy once it is polished like they usually are in jewelry. I would just keep it away from water and too much friction. If you do see it wearing down, make sure to give it a rest. You may want to consider a pendant if you do a lot of work with your hands as opposed to a bracelet.

Hi, I’m not sure what causes a color change. Some healer said changes because of the energy exchange. Scientifically it could be the temperature of your body or surroundings.

Hi Ashlee, yes Obsidian should be translucent. However, so is glass and a number of other stones, so it is not a definitive answer. If you bought the necklace from a trustworthy and educated gemstone vendor then I would not worry. Hi JM, Black Obsidian can be found in a matte texture, especially if it is not well polished. The only way to know for sure is to have it tested in a gem lab, check with the vendor for all they know about the piece, or try the DIY Obsidian fake vs real tests: satincrystals.com/pages/obsidian-article If it ends up you did get fake Obsidian, take it as a learning experience; it happens to the best of us!

I bought 2 different kind of bracelets with obsidian beads. One of them is triple protection with tiger eye and hematite; the other is only obsidian with evil eye agate. One of the obsidian beads in the triple protection one broke, but I'm not sure if it's true obsidian. It definitely has a sharp edge, but it's not too translucent. It has like a brownish color, though. I do not know if I should get rid if the bead pieces of bury them in the ground... Does anyone have any answers that they can share? Thank you!
