I was 16 years old when this was taped. The good Ole days when entertainment WAS great and America WAS America. Good memories. Thank you.

That is exactly the same way that my parents and I spent our Thursday nights, watching the Dean Martin Show without fail. We looked forward to it each week. Dean's Music and Albums were always being played in our house, so I grew up knowing and singing along with him. He was also eye candy to my eyes. I just love him.

Dean Martin's song Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime was a huge huge hit song in 1964 even beating out a Beatles song for the number one spot for awhile. Dean also acted in many movies, did concerts and his tv show was big and he was a top performer and a big draw in Las Vegas too especially in the 1960's at the Sands hotel main show room and Dean did comedy radio shows too he also was Frank Sinatra fine buddy.

A lot of the bits are classic Dean, and his fans must have loved the pre-WWII standards that made up a lot of the musical numbers, stuff that is never heard today and which audiences now would be completely unfamiliar with. The bits at the end with Landesburg and especially the scene with Dean as a scientist being interviewed by DeLuise were painful though. I presume they never made it into the final cut of the show.

25:12 - Director (is that Greg Garrison?) comes into frame 2 SECONDS after end of take - Damn they give no 'pad' to the video editor - and they move this production ALONG! If that is Garrison, I never saw such a 'hands-on' guy handling the talent and manipulating Dean-O like a ragdoll, physically 'holding' onto talent and staying in frame seconds before the 'take'. These early '70s show used editing to the max which is why they always seemed so choppy. The re-takes of close-ups were interesting. I'd imagine Carol Burnett Show was produced similarly...
@DavidBensonActor Жыл бұрын
Yes that is Garrison. His hands-on style with Martin is reflected in the way guests and chorus performers were instructed in how to guide and steer Dean throughout the show.

I wonder if Helen Hunt ended up keeping that wallet with the $600. That may have started her career off by paying for some acting lessons. What an amazing career she's had....including an Oscar !

It's a dingaling! The kooky b&w movie dropins make me think this is a party tape made from a dress rehearsal recording.
@jasonwentworth49953 жыл бұрын
The movie drop-ins were used throughout this season of Dean's show in the weekly finales. The cast would sing songs from MGM musicals intercut with scenes from the movie. Since this is a "raw" tape I'm not sure if the transitions between film clips and studio material were any smoother in the finished broadcast...with all the film clips involved I'm not sure any of these finales were included on DVD releases.
