Well Dave, I believe that you just displayed the characteristics of a good steward. Your OBT was calm, unthreatened by your activities and came from a good environment. I've watched keepers try to get their 3" OBT's out of a 4" enclosure that the OBT has triple webbed up, making it almost impossible to gently move the spider. On top of that, the keepers are moving the 3" OBT into a larger 5" enclosure... if I was an OBT in those conditions I'd bolt first chance that presented itself.... and stick my fangs into anything that was prodding, poking, and disrespecting me. Good Job on that move.... but you know, you just might have an easier time because you sport that calm English accent, and the spiders like it!!

@tarantulamom19003 жыл бұрын
I want to say thank you for teaching such a calm approach to working with Tarantulas. I just purchased my second OBT sling yesterday, as my first, Orange Julius, hooked out last May and he seems to be quite close to the end of his lifespan now. The sling I purchased, now known as Lucille, made a web on the lid of her small deli cup, making feeding and maintenance pretty dicey, so I rehoused her this morning in a more semi-arboreal set up with an upright cork bark and a little plant to provide anchor points and extra cover. The entire transfer procedure took me less than 30 seconds, as I remained very calm when the little one started running laps in her cup. I carefully cracked the lid open adjacent to the cork bark and she immediately ran out and down, hiding underneath the bark. I had much more anxiety with my first one, so much that my hands would shake. I just wanted you to know that you are really making a difference in how people work with their spiders. Thanks again!

Dave you make it look so easy. I just got my first spider, a T.Albo and at first she was a gentle sweetheart. But the other day I went in to do some maintenance (clean some poo, fill water dish) and I needed her to move slightly, so I went in to gently touch her with the paintbrush (which she normally barely reacts to) and she turned and LAUNCHED herself at the brush, all in one movement 😳 she scared the life out of me, I hadn't even touched her leg and she just did a suicidal dive at the brush (luckily it was a long brush). It was so unexpected that it terrified me. My partner had to finish the job, and she was fine after that but now I'm so nervous, I have to do a rehouse soon and I'm worried. She's done the odd bit of fast turning before (food response I thought), that never bothered me but this, I hadn't even touched her and she threw herself so far she nearly came out of her terrarium! Any ideas what this might be related to? Sorry for the long message but you're the best authority on YT to me, I trust you more than anyone.
@daveslittlebeasties3 ай бұрын
Sounds like a feeding response ? or maybe she just wasn't aware you was there and startled her a little the fact she settled so quickly suggests either of those things 👍

I have a T.Vagans and am terrified of exactly what you said about the tarantula running up the tongs lol. I'm actually somewhat tempted to see if anyone lives near me who has a lot more experience with rehousing tarantula and can rehome my T.Vagans and let me watch them. I see so many videos on youtube but it still absolutely terrifies me cuz of how fast mine is and also how aggressive it was when I tried to rehouse it when I first got it. Thinking about getting a T.albopilosum as I keep hearing how docile they are so thinking that maybe I should get 1 so I can better learn how to rehouse and such with a T that's not so bolty cuz lord knows my T.Vagans is so freaking fast it's as if it teleports into its burrow instead of running lol. I'm not even sure when to rehouse it as I was thinking it was going to need rehousing after it's last moult but it's still surprisingly small but it's definitely being rehoused after it's next moult.
@daveslittlebeasties4 жыл бұрын
Just get yourself prepared and take your time you will be able to deal with it, if it helps to put its enclosure inside another box then do that it just slows the T down and gives you time , you will be fine it sometimes helps to have someone calm with you for moral support and help .keep us informed as to how you get on , good luck👍
