You should do a breakdown of anything done on natural light only. That would help us to film stuff on a budget. Most of us don’t have any light equipment but still wanna try this out. Pd: congrats, you taught me more than my teacher in college.

Analyze Ratched on Netflix. There’s a scene on episode 2 or 3 where there in a restaurant, all glass windows and the talent is backlit. Seems like it would have been a very difficult situation. Love the channel. Thanks for all the knowledge!

@louisb_dp4 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure your description of the lighting plan is not acurate, their may be a soft box on top but hard light plays a big role in this scene. Didn't you notice the hard shadows below the character on the wide shot? My guess is a tungsten fresnel 3/4 front on the women.
@rokkfilms4 жыл бұрын
Another great job man! Thanks again for all you do! You always say neg, but since I don't know that much about lighting I was thinking negative space in the room. But then I came across another video about using negative fills using flags and black cloth. Then it dawns on me. LOL. I have a closet full of that stuff that I bought from Digital Juice a long time ago. I have the shadow kit, Flag Kit, Diffusion Gel Kit. So now I have a better idea of how to use all this stuff. lol!

Nice breakdown! It's more contrasty than his narrative stuff (where he uses more underexposure to create darkness) but my bet is on Bradford Young

in that first wide shot, I notice that the mic stand is casting a hard shadow, but the mic stands in the back look like they have some diffusion. You said there is a soft box above, but how would they get the hard shadow of the big mic stand with that?
@TelekinesisStudios4 жыл бұрын
I don't think those are hard shadows. I think they're the edges of rugs. I could be wrong, but I don't see any hard shadows in there anywhere.

Many of us are creating recordings/streams of stage shows that would have typically been performed live. My challenge has been convincing the stage lighting guys to get rid of their gells and harsh intensity/focus lights and create a more even wash of light. What would you advise for lighting a stage set for video?

The shadows are definitely way too crushed. You can see in the scopes that most of the shadow information is lost and correspondingly it gives the image a very harsh quality.
