You can learn more about lighting from KZbin than you can in 99% of film schools. Same here. We haven't even started lighting yet and I already know that my lecturers cannot teach me everything about lighting. Infact I probably know more about lights and the science behind it than they do.

Whenever I watch you I realise how much I have to learn, and I hope I never stop. I'm an editor switched to jack-of-all in my late 30s. I could watch you for hours, and probably will.

Lovely video as always. I do take issue with the notion that "flat to camera is not good." Maybe it's not popular these days but perhaps in a few years time we will be back to seeing hard light and low ratios again when people get tired of soft wrap.

Invaluable insight! Even without the massive lighting rigs and large spaces, this info will help to improve the look of even the smallest scale and low-budget projects. Great content!

Great things to point out on that "level 4 and 5" stuff. Creating some depth with foreground elements. And the practicals that contrast within the image of the lights that match our sun

In the wide shot, the key light still seems quite soft. Is the light diffused on the outside of the windows or are they lighting the key through the sheers on the right? And going in closer, how do you usually keep the levels when adding a 4x4 diffusion? Augmenting with another light on the inside or brightening up the one on the outside?

Great breakdown as always! In the wide shot, isnt the key light coming from the window just beside them? By looking at the light at her leg, it looks so sidelit instead of from the window we cant see

Another great breakdown! Wanted to ask, how do you keep the fire alarms from going off while you use a hazer/smoke machine at any indoor location? Do you have to have a fire marshal every time to turn off the building's detectors or how does one get around that?
