Absolutely! It's sad to see the lack of enthusiasm for skilled labor. Physical labor will make a man out of you even if social engineering isn't. Good video!

Believe me when I tell you there’s a lot of us younger dudes wanting to join the trades and willing to learn and put in the hard work but the problem with that is that a lot of people are asking for highschool diplomas and past experience like how are we to gain experience if nobody is willing to hire and teach us unless we try to look for under the table work just to gain a little experience but with doing that you have a high chance of them saying “oh yeah for sure I’ll give you a call” but they just say that so you could get out of his face.

Union steel stud framer here from socal. i started when i was 17 and im 35 years old now . I got my occidentals about 4 years in the trade when becoming an 8th stage apprentice on my way to journeying out . Prior to that i had some whatever cheap canvas type bags that never held up plus i looked green and i saw the big boys wearing the real deals so my grandfather purchased my occidentals as a gift for me for getting through the apprenticeship. I still use the same bags to this day . I just replaced the belt recently which i doubt will ever have to do again. I also got the suspension system to help with the weight i carry . Went from the stronghold lights suspension to the leather poly hybrid suspension now (a bit heavier but work well). My bags are most definitely beat up and worn in like crazy but they still do exactly what i need them for and I don’t see myself replacing any pouches anytime soon. They are Well worth the money Pops dished out and if my bags eventually fall apart I beleive I’d just take em to a leather shop for a quick fix rather then replace. They are apart of me. I love them.

I was a savage (drywaller)for... Many years before moving onto becoming a carpenter. I wish I knew about Occidental when I was young. Look into Canadian brand Viking. Heavy duty leather for drywall, not so great for carpentry. Unfortunately I had rose coloured glasses, and bought the carpenter pouch... Big mistake. Oh well, I got Occidental on order and I'm sure i will be happy. As much as I hate drywall, I do miss the comradery you get with a tight crew. Especially with residential. Good for you guys, keep killing boys. Keep those tunes blasting.

I was just as excited when I got my leather bags :D It is so fun to tweak them. What I do tho is attach the belt, then I spin the whole thing 180 degrees around my waist so that the belt clasp is on my back. I also bought a pair of suspenders for when I'm doing long jobs on a roof or a lot of bending over. If you have suspenders you can wear your bags much higher or lower and it can make bending over easier. I pretty much show up to work early to adjust my bags to what I need that day. Also I kinda wish I bought the plastic speed square just to keep weight down!

Nice video guys, I needed to see how low that 4 pouch bag hangs before I buy, and noticed that I really like that high sitting hammer holster on the back hip. There's a Stronghold tool case that has frontside hammer holder and a gang of utility holders that I'd prefer, but thats just my taste. I need that spot on the back to hold my phone! Good stuff though, thanks for the vid!

I’m hanging drywall in my garage right now by myself. The walls are 14 ft. high. I need to hang 1 12 ft sheet and 4 8ft sheets. Any ideas on how to do it without falling or breaking the drywall. I got the first two 12ft sheets up by myself. Some how I need to get the third one up next to the ceiling. A second persons help has been impossible to find and a lift won’t work due to the garage door brackets and hardware. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I’ve got a custom belt with different bags, I bought a nice large occidental bag for small rolls and screws. What I really recommend is buying a drill holster. They are super useful especially because they have a clip that keep the drill in spot. I keep bits and stuff in the pouch that it has on it.

how does the apprenticeship system work with non union work
@NomadicINK
@NomadicINK 6 жыл бұрын
Well I'm the journeyman and I train everybody in stages. So if you are just starting out you'd basically learn how to screw off and then learn how to router and take numbers. While you're doing that you're also learning how to attack your cutter up. And once you've learned how to handle board and hang lid. You're basically just going day-by-day till you improve all those skills. And then when you're ready slowly you'll start cutting and being trained on how to finish rooms and figure out layout for cuts and rules for what you do over doorways windows top plates and Peaks.
@NomadicINK
@NomadicINK 6 жыл бұрын
I basically start people out at 10 and yes that's low but in this area to decent wage and if you can show me your worth working your butt off for 10 and you're going to sacrifice making a bunch of money so that you learn. then I'll spend my time training you so you're worth more than 10. Most of my guys are at 18 or 20 an hour right now. And they've earned it
