Many corporations encourage yoga, TM, and other 'new age' practices. Imagine suggesting the Rosary in a corporate setting. You'll be asked to clear out your desk tout suite.

Let's not forget how essential Muslims have a prayer room. I go down into the garage and sit in my car and do my Rosary (actually it is the only peaceful and safe place for me to take my time and focus).

Thank you, Robert! I’ve just watched a Catholic, who was in many Catholic KZbin channels talking about her conversion from the occult to the Catholic faith after she had many visions of the Virgin Mary. Her name is Eira Wulfnothsson and in her episode 43 of her channel she mentioned some of the things that you talked about. Hopefully you can have her in your channel as a guest to talk about the mysteries of the Catholic faith.

The video with fr Nixon was incredible. I for one have had this aversion to anything deemed too " esoteric " as of course this often has connotations of the occult . Father highlighted how our faith is a deep well and the mystical depths of our faith are beautiful , mysterious and wonderful. Thanks for sharing this very interesting indeed . I also like luther being described as " the devils bagpipe " which was amusing 😂

I get what you're saying. I think it's better to use the word mystery rather than occult. People will get confused if you use the word occult as it is associated with darkness and the demonic.

@@thecatholicman I agree strongly with the substance of your point, which is that Catholics should not be afraid of our profound mystical tradition. However, I believe that trying to 'reclaim' the use of the word 'occult' to refer to our tradition would be greatly damaging; it would backfire spectacularly. Protestants and others already accuse Catholicism of being 'occult' (in the negative sense) because of the Church's strong mystical tradition. Just using the term 'mystical' is much better, because it lacks the negative connotation, and because it has a long history of use in the church (e.g. Dionysius' *Mystical Theology*). The term 'occult' has long been used, including by Catholics, to refer not to the authentic Christian mysteries, but rather to theories, practices, and movements that purport to have secret knowledge or rituals that are hidden from others but which are necessary for salvation or enlightenment. These occult practices are akin to Gnosticism, in that they purport to have esoteric knowledge that is salvific, and which can only be obtained by being initiated by a human guru who is supposed to have the knowledge. In stark contrast, Christ did not hide, obscure, or restrict access to the true knowledge necessary for salvation. He did not give a separate, secret teaching to the apostles (as the Gnostics claimed). Rather, Christ taught the Gospel openly, preaching the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven and the way to get there. The apostles and early Church followed Christ's example. As you say, the true Christian mysteries are truths or realities that cannot be fully rationally comprehended by the human mind. Christianty *does* involve the discovery of truths or realities that are hidden to others, but they are hidden only in the sense that knowledge and vision is obscured by sin. There are no secret rituals or doctrines in Catholicism. All the church's rituals and doctrines are publicly proclaimed, as sacraments and in the catechism (e.g.). It's true that the sacraments and dogmas have hidden *depths of meaning* that are discovered through faith and prayer, but this is massively different from the Church deliberately withholding what it is necessary for salvation in order to control or manipulate ohers (as is done in the occult and in Gnosticism). Because there is a spiritually defective teaching also called 'occult', to help distinguish the true Mysteries from the false pagan mysteries, it is better to avoid use of the terms 'occult' or 'esoteric' to describe the former. This is especially so since the occult is everywhere on the rise, and is one of the biggest threats facing the Church today.

I can't say anything to add to your presentation, except to applaud it. If the hierarchy of the church wants to waste their offices by pushing for sexual immorality, or listening to fake religions and false ecumenism, or worldwide weather conditions, then we know it is up to us to explain wherever and whenever we can to look into the vast treasures of the wisdom and knowledge of God! We need - at least at this time - a bottom-up restoration of the wisdom and know-how we have. Much of the knowledge is here; reliable books explaining matters are available, but go sadly unread and un-lived. I'm with you!

My heart is open to the great catholic mystery this is a fresh discover for me I have had mystical experiences but lacked true understanding so I began my search to uncover the mystery and found your suggestion for reading very helpful I now have a food for the soul on my reading shelf. I began with Cor Jesus Sacratissimum then Transfiguration Michael Martin- Meditations on the Tarot and David Torkington Wisdom for the Mystics, now none of this is easy reading for me personally as my education is found wanting but God is there to reveal and support your understanding like a true father.

As others have said the word 'occult' has too many negative connotations. We have to be urgent and clear in our days about what we are preaching, and wasting effort for the sake of resurrecting a word is not a priority...it only adds to the confusion. Catholic mysticism and contemplative prayer is what we are all called to, no matter our state in life, and is to be encouraged. ❤

BTW, see the Summa (Summa theologiae III, q. 83, a. 5, ad. 6) for the five times the priest turns around in the Apostolic Mass symbolism. Ironically, this was in response to an objection for the action 800 years ago. “Five times does the priest turn round towards the people, to denote that our Lord manifested Himself five times on the day of His Resurrection, as stated above in the treatise on Christ’s Resurrection. But the priest greets the people seven times, namely, five times, by turning round to the people, and twice without turning round, namely, when he says, “The Lord be with you” before the “Preface,” and again when he says, “May the peace of the Lord be ever with you”: and this is to denote the sevenfold grace of the Holy Ghost. But a bishop, when he celebrates on festival days, in his first greeting says, “Peace be to you,” which was our Lord’s greeting after Resurrection, Whose person the bishop chiefly represents.” -St Thomas Aquinas

am an acupuncturist, an esotericist, and also a traditionalist Catholic. All the things talked about in the East when they discuss Qi or vital energy exist in the Western world within Churches (Catholic or Orthodox), but it's secret. The buildings are constructed in shapes like prisms that emit different colors depending on their orientation. Healing and blessings are vital energy given or received, and the transubstantiation is a vital charge of energy from Christ to ensure we somehow vibrate at the same frequency. These are just a few points to help you understand why it is important to keep performing the same rituals even if we don't understand why, because some of us will need these to help others now or in the future, as they will receive this knowledge from tradition.

If you're OK with acupuncture and the concept of chi, then you surely are fine with Reiki, Chi Kung, with Kundalini and with all the Eastern esoteric practices?
@ngamashaka4894
@ngamashaka4894 16 күн бұрын
Yes and no, they have some techniques, but because they are just techniques and not linked to real spirituality, they are often irrational and very often based on the operator's feeling. I love acupuncture and Chinese medicine because you have a clear diagnosis and a precise series of points or herbs to use to fix it. You can go see two different acupuncturists, and they will have the same diagnosis and use the same points. I also believe that practices like yoga are too deeply rooted in the Indian pantheon to be spiritually free for Catholics to use. I would prefer the Chinese version that works directly on the meridians. I probably have a lot of books to read on the subject.
@buz3
@buz3 16 күн бұрын
@ngamashaka4894 Yogis would vehemently disagree with you on this, as would practitioners of Reiki. What do you mean by spiritually free and what is about Indian spirituality that distinguishes it from Chinese in this regard?

I've realised that some traditional Catholics are not really open to this more mystical, less doctrinal way of thinking, and some are. Have struggled with the right line to tread on this most of my life. I left the Church when I was a teenager as I was thirsting for mystery, and sought it in the New Age. When I came back to the Church I found mystery and magic in the traditional liturgy. But some trads are overly rationalisric about the Faith.
