I tried to stay involved in sports. Also. Lt teachers would allow me to test outside of the room and minimize my in class time. It helped a ton. Sadly there is no cure. I've had tics since I can remember, andI'm 37 now. Trying to mentally restrain myself is exhausting. The best things I've found to reduce the frequency of tics are; eat healthy (no sugar, caffeine, etc.), exercise (swimming is the best for me), and keeping a clear conscience. Stimulants & alcohol set off my tics really bad. There's a newer "tic" (I call it a tic for lack of a better word) that is really weird. It has only happened 3 times. It feels almost like an anti-tic. It's a feeling of overwhelming release of negative energy. No, I'm not a hippy. I don't know how else to describe it. It's like something plucks all this built up stress/strain/energy, then demolishes it, and I'm fine. It begins with me squeezing my eyes shut really tight. Have you heard of something similar from anyone else? No, I don't do any psychedelic mushrooms or acid, or any other drugs. I avoid them like the plague.

You just described my life. I started out with the tics when I was about 14 years old OCD and I still have them today at 65 years old. I was being seriously bullied back then, especially on the schoolbus. I wasn’t diagnosed with Tourette’s until I was in my early 30s. I had a great neurologist at Yale who was doing Study on how and why few adults continued on with Tourette’s into their adulthood. I still have tics at 65 years old. The types have changed around like they were changing from one type of tic to completely different types. I had audible, physical and an occasional extreme anger tic. It’s tough to live with but with help and a good positive and supportive family and good friends there is nothing that you can’t deal with. “GOD has your 6.” (Meaning your back)

I found out this year that I've been having tics/tourettes since around 7 years. Had no idea it was a thing. Started with blinking, then neck/head twitching/tensing, ears moving, arm+leg tensing, teeth clenching/grinding, making grunting noises, eyebrow/forehead movement, (+some other things like scalp scratching/other repetitive movements) and almost nose flaring but I stopped myself from doing it before it became something. I've always wondered why this was happening to me and was so ashamed abt it, especially when my parents noticed and questioned/ told me to stop (only happened a few times cuz I've found ways to hide it/suppress). I've tried so hard to suppress it all my years that I was able to keep it quite subtle/mild although when I'm alone, it can get uncontrollable. I would try my best to hide it around others and let it out when I think no one would see/hear. Quite tiring... I remember my mom telling me to ask the doctor abt my head twitching when I had an appointment for something else (was embarrassed to bring it up and kinda perform it to him) and he simply said it was stress related... no further details;-; I remember I had one year when my life was at a "good" place meaning I felt pretty happy and healthy (exercising, hydrated, had friends to talk to and have a good time without much to worry abt) but it all came back when things fell apart haha. I also noticed that my breathing is quite shallow at times and i tend to want to take a deep breath in and out to relieve whatever has been built up inside. I believe my anxiety, depression and stress is probably related to it. It peaks when I'm either super excited abt something or super anxious. It's frustrating and I still feel ashamed. In certain activities like playing the piano, baking, doing photography, gardening, etc (activities that are therapeutic to me) I usually don't experience "tics". I just hope I can get rid of them one day or it not being such an interference with my day to day life. Always thought I had a problem, never had i ever categorized myself having some kind of mental disorder(?). Didn't even know abt me having depression+anxiety until later years.

Try and eat less sugar, it really helps. When you feel an urge for a tic, try and relax yourself by breathing or streching. I went to my doctor and he said it is a tic disorder, but we really don’t know anything about it yet. He said he would refer me to a neurologist if things got worse, and it definitely did. I developed SEVERAL new tics within 48 hours. I called the doctor back, and I will be seeing a neurologist soon. My mom thinks I could’ve had a slight tic when I was a baby, and there is another thing that I’ve always done since I was a toddler that seems like a tic, but be aren’t sure. im a little worried- so ive had "stress" twitches since i was like 9. i was never diagnosed with Tourettes. my twitches have progressively gotten worse. like i have some of the ones you've mentioned in this which is: neck twitches, such as jerking my neck to the side, backward, stiffening it, and forwards. another one is twitching/stiffening my legs and stomach and arm, sometimes i have a beat that i cant quite satisfy. another one you mentioned was not satisfying my breath. i have times where i feel like i cant breathe and i try super hard to breath properly and the way i fix it is usually by yawning. i also have eye twitches where i squint my eyes and shake them and roll them back into my head. also sometimes i do a little grunt and clear my throat or make a little squeak (i dont open my mouth during any of these.) also i adjust my jaw a lot, like i open it without opening my mouth and stiffen it and move it around. also, ive seen videos with people with tics and i do get slightly triggered by them. ive had these for 3 years now and my parents say "u should stop." its like really uncomfortable and uncontrollable. my parents havent brought me to anyone to see. should i be worried? theyre not horrible like they arent preventing me from living or anything- its just that ive been told its stress since i got it so i havent really looked into it very much until they got worse like a year ago. Examples: pulling left arm into my body like a bird, jarring right arm straight, lifting right shoulder, shaking head side to side, head jarring into right shoulder, left hand slapping legs, and the last one is saying “doot doot doodlebops”. For this one, it started about 2 months ago and went away two weeks ago.

I just learned i have tics too and im 47 years old. i learned to live with it for 20yrs plus but lately i feel its getting worser to where i needed medication for it r otherwise i would do anything just to ease my blinking problems. I dont how many times i went to see the doctor for my problem during the 90s. I always knew something is wrong inside my head like something squeezing it and i would blink just to ease it. I started having dry lips during my 20s then sniffling a couple years ago. And now i was starting to have sleepless nights. I would just do anything just to sleep..drugs n alcohol. But now i use clonidine and pregablin which it works i find good but not totally.

I like this video because I wanted to know of there is a difference between having tics and Tourette's because I have stuff that are tics that is out of habit and I can probably stop it but... I don't know. It's like one of those things I can't really help like "it just happens". Like finger snapping or making weird noise or saying something so random. It's not forced but it comes out of nowhere. When I was little I was told some of them was nervous tics but now I'm thinking maybe I have more tics than I think. Because randomly I'll make mario sounds or say "wow" like yoshi or other weird noises or words.

Not sure if you’ll see it, but personally I would watch it. If you also are absolutely not doing it on purpose it may be a tic. But feel free to reply if you have questions, but tics are also new to me too

I always clear my throat and cough and it annoys the hell out of me. I can’t go to the doctor or the neurologist or anything cause it’s too expensive. My parents never took me to one either for some reason even though my tics were clearly visible, in fact they always yell at me to stop clearing my throat and coughing. So I don’t know what to do about it

Hi..Your video is really motivating.. My son aged around 18 I noticed those jerks and twitches during January 2023, I took him to a neurologist where he was diagnosed with tourette's, he was prescribed with some medicines and we had 3 visits so far to the same doctor ..But the condition of my son remains the same and worse...We are very worried...

Medication will not make them go away. They are only for dulling the urge to tic. My daughter has Tourettes since kindergarten and is now 21. There is nothing that can be done. The only thing that helps keep them mild is a clean diet, quality supplements, exercise, and just generally a healthy lifestyle.

I went to your website, but not sure if the OCD is the program for CBIT or not. My daugther has begun to have tics and we are looking for some help. They are evolving into her eyes and a bit of stuttering right now from a neck roll. We are working with a Dr. but would love a CBIT online course that you talk about. Any info would be great.

I don't know if I have chills or tics. I get this feeling that makes my whole body just move. Usually, my head yanks to the left or immediately tilts to the right while my body just thrashes for one second. I get a weird feeling before it comes on. Sometimes when this happens I make a noise but not all the time. I've had it for so long...idk
@iatejiminsjams43213 жыл бұрын
I don't think I have it but i do have a bad habit of moving and blowing into my eyes when I get nervous or bored. Also to move my eye in the direction of light and recently i have left one of my bad habits of kind of like coughing that i had for like 1-2 years . And then i had the habit to blow on my hands . Then the habit to smell things like everything.😑 I'm tiring to get rid of those habits because its kind of weird doing it in public.

I think a kid in my class MIGHT have tics, or maybe it's something else, idk, but sometimes in class he will just go like: "AHHHH" or like grunt? Idk, it doesn't happen a lot though.

When I was a kid I did a lot of hand flapping and shaking. But it eventually went away. I went my teen years completely free from them. Then in college an eye blink began. It's like a hard blink and feels like a tightness in the muscles around my eyes. It's a constant thing occuring throughout the day. No specific time for activity that inspires it most. Just all the time. But it causes migrains, so it's really dibilitating. They went away after a couple months and then came back at age 24. Again, they persisted for a couple months and stopped. Now I'm fighting them again at age 25. I'm not even sure if it's a tic it a muscle problem or what. It is so hard to explain and I can't find anyone who knows what's happening.

I wrote another comment on another video of yours but I wanted to write another here, I’m 13 and I have tics since I was 10, it keeps getting worse, here are some of my tics: I sniff while I flip my toes up and down five times in a row, I blink also 5 time in a row especially when I’m in bed and I’m trying to sleep, I say things and words out loud 3 times in a row and pinch my nose just after I sniff, my parents always say something about my tics like: stop, or they make jokes about it, my mom doesn’t want me to take to a psychologist so idk what to do, also I’m very distracted as well my teachers throught the years have always said that I don’t pay attention because I’m distracted and forgetful, I tic every moment when I’m happy, when I’m sad and especially when I’m embarrassed I’ve always thought that these were just common OCD but thanks again for making me understand (also sorry for my bad English, I’m Italian)

Video games tend to be a time where tics happen more. Mainly because the person is in a pretty relaxed state. It tends to happen more when people are bored or over stimulated.

My parents don’t really understand my tics and thought it was just something that if I “stopped it” it would go away so when they stopped for a bit over the summer but would come back smaller (I’m assuming because I was much more relaxed being at home) and sometimes in little episodes that could get very bad. But since I tried to keep it away from them because they didn’t understand it they have the idea that it just “went away” even though it’s been going on for over 2 years now ):

Can only hide it for so long. There are people who understand and share your symptoms. Just remember that even though you feel alone in this you are not and there are others like you who feel the same.

had motor and verbal tics for 5 maybe 6 years which started as a hum and a neck twitch but over the years they become more loud and painful like hitting, my family claims they go away for a bit and come back but they are always there, just quiet or because I try stop them because I dont like people pointing them out... aaaaaa I just- I don't know what to do. and they are hard to deal with some time.

I have tics that started suddenly in February. I was told I have ‘functional myoclonus’ but they can’t tell me why or what or if it will ever go away. They think they are distractible or I Can suppress them but I can’t and it’s embarrassing and painful. I used to be a carpenter but I can’t use power tools anymore, now all I’m making is minimum wage and I can’t find a place to live. The doctors are treating this like it’s no big deal but it’s making me miserable- sometimes when I can’t stop ticcing at work and people are staring I’m next to tears and I want to go home and give up and stop trying. Idk how to deal with all of this 🤦♀️ I feel crazy
