@thegodzillastudios2790 thank you for the correction and yes I studied Portuguese and Spanish history in university for a class like 9 year, long story short yes, Vasco de Gama and Bartholemew Dias subsequently and essentially paved the way for colonialism in Africa. However not to be lost in context, the Africans ruled Europeans in Iberia for 781 years, in Al Andaluz and ending with the Kingdom of Grenada. Europeans and christians were forced to pay the Jiyza tax and were also sold as slaves. The ending of Grenada in 1492 is often glossed over but it's fall was the precipitous for slavery in Africa. The way Europeans like the Portuguese and Spanish saw things they had no mercy for the people they just defeated. Gun boat diplomacy as it was called would reshape Africa and Asia with the "Galleons" all the way to Macau, kinda crazy tbh and insanely fascinating.

That orange was grown, cultivated by a farmer on an orchard. It was picked, carted by truck to a watehouse, sorted and passed quality inspection. It was packed and delivered to a wholesaler on a chilled truck. The wholesaler then packed it among others in a carboard box where it was trucked to a loading yard. It was then added to a trailer among other items and hauled to a port. It was then loaded onto a helicopter to be flown out to an oil rig. Then it was thrown into the ocean.

I used to work 1,200 feet underground. Yes at first it is scary and your mind is just processing all the billions of tons of Earth above your head, but after a while I found myself able to enjoy the darkest darkness I have ever experienced. And also the quietest quiet one can almost ever experience. So quiet infact, when you get away from all the machines running, you can literally hear the sounds of the Earth settling, slight cracks and subtle sounds all around you reminding you that this rock we call home is alive and moving and active even in its deepest and darkest depths. Truly amazing shit man i miss it sometimes. Edit: thank you all for the love and curiosity about what was a short but big part of my life. I only was a miner for a bout 3 years, between 2016 and 2019. I lost my mother to suicide about a year into my employment down there and only 6 months after my first child was born. This lead me down a dark path of depression and anxiety that I have only just begun to get a grip on over the last few months. That being said this mental instability did play a huge role in my leaving the mining industry to go back to paving asphalt like I did beforehand. It was a difficult last 5/6 years but I made it through it and I am lucky to be as healthy and as stable as I am now.

My dad and I went on an oceanic fishing trip with a couple of fisherman off the coast of Java. This was the northern coast so the ocean was calmer. After sundown I was scared shitless. It was dark, you can't see anything beyond what the hurricane lantern provides. We also weren't in a yacht or a big trawler. It was a wooden traditional fisherman boat with one diesel engine. We don't even have vests on. I'm a trained swimmer and life guard but even I was questioning myself on whether I could survive if the boat capsized there and then. I could not tell you the relief I felt when the sun rises. Why don’t you try working in a morgue by yourself on the overnight shift. Where bodies lay out occasionally still expel gases, sometimes by farts, and sometimes by gasping sounds coming from the mouth. And it is true freshly laid out bodies can occasionally twitch and move slightly enough to scare the crap out of you. And on top of that when a body has not been prepared for a viewing yet, some of their eyes are still opened and their eyes rolled back in their head and their mouth hanging open or in some cases, I have seen some people with disturbing smiles on their faces and their eyes focused in a certain direction. And finally there are those people that have the “look of death in their face. This is a true fact. if a person is in a bad accident, and they have time to process the situation mentally, and they know they are going to be killed or severely mangled they can die with a look of terror frozen on their face. People never believe this when I mention it, but you can research it for yourself. So the ocean may be a frightening place at night, but I’d love to place you in that whole environment by yourself at night and see how you felt in the morning.
