Great project, Kim! I have been using Waterlox for many years now. It is made by the Waterlox Company which is a small family owned business. I have not used their brand new H2OLOX finish, as I am not a fan of water based finishes. Just a personal preference. For best results you really should use the Sealer first. I have used this for many pieces by itself. For applications that will be exposed to water then come back with the Marine finish. This is my go to for bathroom cabinets, countertops etc. it was originally designed for marine applications as the name says. Waterlox products, certainly with the oil based finishes I am most familiar with, will add a butterscotch tone to the piece. Really, lovely! What keeps me coming back to Waterlox is every can treats me exactly the same. I know exactly how it will behave. The Marine finish would be a very good finish for these types of turnings. Use 3-5 thin coats.

I made my own butcher block counter tops when my wife bought new cabinets for our kitchen. I used the WaterLox. Had to apply about 5 coats on the top of the butcher block (3 on the bottom). I sanded back after each coat. 220 after the first 3 coats. 320 for the 4th coat. I found that each coat made the wood a darker orange. Haven't used it on the lathe yet, but I might try it since I have a little left over that I need to use up. I hope that helps. Love your channel and your projects. God Bless.

About waterlox you have to be careful how many coats or how thick the coat is it tends to mask fine grain,I hand carve walking sticks and made some out of wenge wood and it looked dipped in plastic with two coats and the grain no longer pops I had to strip that stick and put one thin coat and it was ok then. Just my take on waterlox. And you got me ordering shaving knots and pucks to give these kits a go,I'm from NC and know of Carden Farms they are about two hours from me so I think i'll go pick some cakes up from them i'll tell them you sent me. And another beautiful project this week.

Hi Kim love all your work my pressure pot had a small leak so i put a fine smear of petroleum jelly around the lid seal each time before you put the lid on(clean off about every 3 or 4 times with DNA and reapply )worked fine holds the pressure now if that dose not work use diluted washing up liquid on all connectors to find any leaks Dave (UK)

Oh my that was just gorgeous. Really loved the colors and how they swirled. On your drill chuck where it goes up in your tail stock look up in there and make sure your don't have no wood or resin chips in there that can cause a problem too. At least that has been my experience. How ever if it is in fact your chuck and it makes your second one I would suggest buying one from MSC with the appropriate morse taper for your lathe tail stock. You can find them online they are a machinist supply company and have good quality products.

Kim - Great video as usual. Waterlox us my favorite finish. It is a tung oil based finish, probably with some dryer and maybe some sort of varnish. It is easily applied as a wipe-on. I always leave 24 hours between coats. While I love using it and the results are all but dummy-proof (important to me), I would not use it for your shaving kits. I would stick with CA for them. It is worth your trying for a wood-only turning. Not sure how it would act with a wood-resin combined project.

Waterlox comes in a few variants. It is typically used for table tops. It is incredibly expensive, and also hard to come by, depending on the state you live in. I have used it on a few bartops I have done for clients, and one table top. It is a very nice finish, but I personally find it to be overpriced for what it is. For what you are doing, either epoxy finish or one of the many finishing products that Total boat makes. Easy peasy
